You ROCK, CB!!!!!! Thank you for the pics! I am a hand-wash scarf gal too....never had a problem AND I iron them on high heat (avoiding the rolled hems) too!!!!!

Can't wait for the finished products pics!!!!!

Your pictures are fabulous, CB! I finally got "courage" in the last two months and have hand washed my scarves and they came out great. I'm curious to know how you dried them....I cleaned my shower rod and then hung white towels over them and then let the scarf hang dry....worked well for me but I would love to hear how others dry their scarves!

I lay a large white towel out on a bed, then lay the wet scarf flat on it and roll it up into a giant tube. Wait about 10 minutes, then hang it over my sweater-drying rack for about 20 more. When it's still slightly damp, I iron with a hot iron on the reverse side of the scarf.

I live in a humid climate and the towel rolling helps get the puddles of water out of the scarf.

Thank you for this thread! Yesterday I washed my brand-new, first and only H scarf. It came out beautifully. What I like most is that it isn't quite as stiff as it was originally--it feels more wearable!

I dried mine by doing the roll in the towel trick and then hung it over the back of a chair.

CB, thanks so much for sharing. Great photos! I'm always washing scarves too. It's amazing how tough some of this old silk really is. There's no thrill for me, like finding a scarf treasure in some dingy old shop and bringing it back to life! Can't wait for part 2!

CB - a real guru (teacher) you are!!!
love the pictures - the comfort zone after some coloured pools....

yes, soon I will need to handwash them.

Many thanks!

hello again....

I had some unexpected things crop up, but will get the rest of the pics up tomorrow....

just a couple points...
it only takes about half a capful of leBlanc to do a scarf....or a full capful if you have the tiny size bottle...i think about a teaspoon would be the equavalent.

The vineagar, if you choose to use it, is a separate step, at the end, once all the soap is out...then add about a half capful of vineager, and swish. then rinse a couple more times.

Dont rub stuff on stains, generally. if you wet the entire scarf, and use something gentle like leblanc, you are probably safe...but I really would not do a lot of rubbing, particularly with anything other than leBlanc....

ALSO, if your city water has a lot of chlorine smell, this changes things........you may be able to dechlorinate using those tabs from the pet store, but I dont know a thing about that...as I said in another thread, its all rainwater here, so I dont have to worry about a chemical bath....

If my city water smelled of chlorine, I would have a water filter anyway....and I think a lot of people do...but I just want to caution you that not all water comes out of the tap the same....if your water kills your skin and smells like bleach...get a water filter, for your own good and the good of your scarves.
