Handbag insurance ?

I am getting insurance on my LVs next week, or as soon as my dad comes back from his business trip. My family was robbed last week (no LVs were stolen, but a LOT of cash and valuables were....) and we've all learned that we need to increase security to the max on like every step we take in the world. Most home insurance policies (or at least ours) don't cover for things once they're taken outside of your property. So if you got robbed on the streets... well then insurance doesn't really cover it.

Just a tip guys but when insures pay out (or should i say IF) they will lower the cost of most things for depreciation as we know LV doesn't really suffer wear and tear like other items and some bags increase in value so every so often I look for my bags on ebay and print out sold listings as proof of value not sure if they'd accept it but it helps show the "market value" of your used bags KWIM

Great idea!

Most homeowner's policies will only pay replacement value. There is also the deductable to think about. You should list any expensive item under a separate "personal articles policy" with your insurance company. All you need to do is send your insurance company either a copy of the receipt or an appraisal. There is a small cost for this additional policy, but it is really worth it for the peace of mind.

^^When I bought my insurance, I was told that the only kinds of items that they appraised were jewelry and artwork. When I told them I had a special collection of handbags, they told me it would not be listed separately nor did I need any receipts or proof of ownership. However, that makes me fear for the worst should my house get robbed regarding coverage :(

I knew someone who had a fake MC speedy stolen from her vehicle and her auto insurance paid her for the $2k retail value of the bag.

their homeowners policy? I tried to get it on a personal articles policy but they said it could only go under my Homeowners, I hate to keep it on there because I have a large deductable that I cannot reduce. I am looking to see if there is anyplace that offers seperate coverage? BTW I have State Farm.

thanks!

I don't know of any other way to insure your bags.

I wouldn't let the deductible keep you from insuring your valuable items. I have my handbags and jewelry on my policy and wouldn't have it any other way. And my deductible isn't cheap either.

I am just worried because say I lose my Saleya and contents thats a total of what $2000 and half of that is my deductable! :( In the UK I see they are offering this type of insurance.

I can't imagine any other way to insure them. Things like Jewlery are usually covered this way...
Maybe there is a way to get the deductable down. Maybe if you have an alarm system in your house...

Oh I don't mind paying the cost don't get me wrong, but what I am saying is it hardly seems worth it....if I am paying say a $1k deductable for a $1200 bag, if it gets stolen, not like my house burns down! KWIM?

I understand.

I have many bags, some in the 5k and up range..so the insurance is a good thing for me.
