My are insured on the home contents insurance. I did take out extra Holiday insurance this year when going to the USA as was scared something would happen to my luggage as had a few flight changes, and they might lose my luggage with my lovely bags in (would have died LOL...)

I'm so glad someone started this thread! I had been meaning to check up on this, but just never got around to it...

I called my insurance co. and they said it's covered under our personal property section on our homeowners policy. Just be sure to keep an inventory!

Actually, how soon I forget! When Hurricane Charley hit us, the roof blew off part of our house and I lost everything in my closet. But our insurance company reimbursed me for every single pair of boots, every purse, and all my clothes. I had to prepare an inventory, but I made sure everything was on it. It was all under our personal property clause.

It helps if you take pictures of all of your bags (or more expensive clothes) too so you remember all the things you have as well as it offers more proof that you owned them.

Oh okay. I'ma call my insurance company tomorrow and double check on this.

My insurance agent, when I last saw her, admired my handbag - and went on to warn me that my homeowners coverage doesn't cover my collection unless the collection is well documented - photographs with me and each bag, original prices, receipts, ect. If I just have an inventory and photographs of the bag - I'll get e-bay fakes prices if I make a claim.

I didn't keep all of my original documentation - and for much of it, I've forgotten the information. Can anyone recommend a source for catalogs for both mid-level and high end bags over the past fifteen years? Or someplace else with prices for authentic older designer bags? Someplace trustworthy?

After reading the H forum thread on "what would you do if there was a fire," I felt obligated to actually check to make sure I was ready for a fire! Only to find out that I am not as ready as I'd like to be.
