Hi ladies !

Since most of you own high end designer purse, accessories, etc. I was wondering if you get alllll those stuff insured in case thefts enters your house? If you do, how much are you insured for?

Also, are you afraid of someone stealing your bag in the street and runaway with it? Did it ever happened to you? :shucks:

You need to do a search, there are a number of threads about this...;)

My bags, and all other expensive designer items, are covered by our home owners insurance and sometimes we are able to have a separate rider for specific items. We will often send copies of the receipts to our insurance agent, along with pictures of the item. Our agent told us that we were the first he had ever heard of asking for a separate rider for an Hermes Birkin.

yes, you can purchase a rider to attach to your homeowner's policy.
It is an additional charge.
With my homeowner's in particular, it only covers a minimum amount. It takes a separate rider.

After I wrote this, I started questioning myself, so I called my ins co.
They have a personal items policy, but it does not cover handbags.
Handbags fall under "contents." Unlike furs and jewelry, there is no limit, as long as I have enough contents coverage.
This is just my own situation, my own coverage in my state. Things probably differ by state and company.
Good question, though!

I know your handbags are covered under homeowner's insurance policies, but does anyone know of any additional insurance that can be taken out on luxury goods? I don't think I am at that level, but just curious of additional and or supplemental policies.

My insurance agent didnt feel it necessary, as I was adequately covered under the existing contents policy.

Since they're geared towards selling you more, I must be over-insured.

If you have insurance on your house, your LV should be adequately covered unless your collection is in the $100Ks. But that's out of the ordinary (I think :D ). I have a rider policy for my artwork though.

LOL...that was pretty much the response I got too. You hear about people insuring their hair, legs, etc., so why not collections.

Maybe we should go into the handbag insurance business. :graucho:

I asked this just recently and my insurance agent (well known company) said there is no rider for them :( and they are covered under homeowners. She said she recommends taking pics and keeping all receipts in a safe or safety deposit box. If anything would happen she said at least you would have proof and values. She said she does this her personal collections of anything valuable. Hope this helps!

I've asked my insurance agent about it several times. Handbags are covered as regular contents of your home. The only things that require additional coverage are if you have over $X amount of jewelry, furs, and I believe laptops.

Tremendously! I was told that too, but it is always helpful to get confirmation from fellow collectors. I also threw it out there to make sure I wasn't missing out on any valuable information. You don't know if you don't ask.

Thank you!
