Handbag insurance ?

Low for tPFers.... but I think about right for the average handbag owner. I don't think it is sexist as some complain it is. I would think in a home robbery, purses are easy to abscond with and there would be several purses to be had at a time.

This topic has been on here a few times. I specifically asked my State Farm insurance agent about this. Handbags are covered under "possessions" in my homeowners policy. Only jewels & furs require an extra rider if you have more than a certain amount (I have literally NONE of either).

How is it covered under your HO policy? Do they go by replacement value or depreciated value?

I never even thought to ask that.

Typically, it's covered at a depreciated value. Which is why for some high ticket items (like musical instruments), I have separate insurance policies covering them at full replacement value. I would be curious to know what your policy values your bags at, and what the cap amount is.

The cap amount is just the total amount of possessions covered on my policy. They aren't treated any differently than any other possession as far as State Farm is concerned.

Same thing in France!
No need to take a special insurance once the company has received a total evaluation of our possessions; including expensive items.
Never undersestimate the amount to avoid paying too much, you never know what might happen...

Hello all,

My husband surprised me and bought me an Indigo Medium Campana. It was my HG so am completely enamoured by him and my first BV !! I love it but am concerned by of the value of the bag.

I am curious, have any of you ladies considered insuring or insured your bags? Any tips or thoughts in this regard?

Thanks!

Contact your insurance agent. Handbags are covered as just general possessions in my homeowners policy. Only furs & jewelry over a certain amount required extra coverage (of which I have none)

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the purse forum. I don't have a ton of super expensive bags, but my nicest pieces are a LV Damier Speedy , and a LV Cherry Blossom Pochette. I have both of those scheduled on my home insurance. I have about 15 coach bags that I do not carry insurance on (even though they retail for about $400, I only paid $100 for some of them at various factory stores).

I'm also an insurance professional, and can tell you that the main reason for scheduling an item is to avoid a deductible. Most people carry a $500 or $1000 deductible on their policies, and most hand bags would fall under that thresh hold. Scheduling puts your deductible at $0. From what I understand, claims involving items that are scheduled on your home insurance should NOT affect the rate of your home insurance. If you're weary about it, take out a separate Inland Marine policy altogether so that it's not attached to your homeowners insurance. I know that Chubb Insurance Group writes Inland Marine policies on just about anything you want to schedule. I would also save all receipts and have pictures of everything you want to insure. Hope this helps :)

Hi ladies !

Since most of you own high end designer purse, accessories, etc. I was wondering if you get alllll those stuff insured in case thefts enters your house? If you do, how much are you insured for?

Also, are you afraid of someone stealing your bag in the street and runaway with it? Did it ever happened to you? :shucks:
