Handbag insurance ?

I was just thinking about this. My bags are covered under my home policy but I'm thinking of getting a separate articles policy on my collection of bags. My insurance company said they'd be covered for everything. Damage, lost, stolen etc. and no deductible. and make sure to get replacement value rather than cash value since Chanel bags actually go up in price vs depreciating.

Just wondering since many of us own expensive bags and/or many bags, consider these investments and some document and inventory their collections & value them.

Do you have a rider on your homeowners or renters policy or have you checked to assure your bags are covered?

Just wondering since these have a lot of value, are investments and are 'keepers'.

GREAT ? I just recently asked my ins agent my LV bag collection--they stated that I was covered, but to what extent ($$$) is the real question. I bet I need to conduct an inventory to get the $$ amount to share with the agent and confirm that I am covered.

huh, considering how expensive they are they should be.......what if the bag in question was a vintage one?? even with the insurance money you cannot get another one!! :nogood:

So like antiques or family heirlooms, you cannot replace them, not exactly. However if they have significant value or combined value and were lost, damaged, stolen you would want them covered rather than taking the full loss, hey?

I have made certain my bags, furs and jewelry are inventoried (kept virtually off site) and covered. Having a picture and serial number or other identifying information helps to assure you are covered.

Recent damage in moving to an antique bookcase - $2800., no kidding.

Has anyone been able to add a separate articles policy for their bags? I went through my agent at Allstate and never got a straight answer but basically I'm only covered up to 20% if theft occurs outside the home, which is not good enough. If there is a flood or fire in my home I'm covered. But I want a separate policy so that I can feel safe bringing my bag out and if it gets damaged or stolen I get the full replacement value. Currently exploring Chubb.

Sighs I have thought about this over and over again but the home and contents insurance require all extra items to be itemized and they then say this might lead to a higher chance of break ins, not to mention higher premiums

I'm curious to see if people buy or have insurance for their handbags. We all know that these bags could add up pretty quickly and any damage or theft to them would be heartbreaking.. So I wonder what you guys do if you do have your bags covered.

I believe my home insurance covers my handbags as well. However, even though I have many photos and some receipts saved, I don't have all of the receipts and wonder if that would ever be a hassle in the future should something bad happen.

Hope this thread is in the right category!!

I'm not insuring mine.

I have renters insurance and have included my handbag collection in the original forms that we filled out as part of our assets. I always keep receipts for my bags so I have documentation should I ever have to provide proof. I also have pictures, etc..

Not bags, but I have had a lot of jewelery given to me by my mother, which some pieces are many years old/antique, and passed down from my grandmother, and will be getting these valued, and insured very soon. I was a nervous wreck when I had to fly back with this stuff, as it was worth a LOT. A recent death in the family made me want to get all my finances sorted pretty sharpish.
