How funny! I don't own a home but I do have renter's insurance. I suppose that that would cover purses as well.

Obsessed: That's a pretty good deal... 5 dollars a month. I think my sister's iphone for 30 for the year....

I asked about that too and my state farm agent said it would be covered under homeowners insurance in case of fire, etc. I keep all my coach receipts in a fire proof gun safe. She mentioned taking pictures of them for a CD along with my other valuables in the home. I insure my wedding set for $2 a month. I considered getting insurance for my bicycle as well but it was soooo expensive! (My bike is about $4,000)

I just looked at my renter's policy: deductible is 1000 dollars!

I asked my sister and the type of insurance she got for the Iphone was specifically for the phone so no deductible or anything....

I am going to call my agent Monday and see what she tells me :)

Thanks for the responses guys!

I agree, it would fall under homeowners or renters insurance, but if it was just a couple of purses it might not hit the deductible. But I think you would have to document the value of the purses for the insurance, and of course make sure the total amount of insurance is enough to cover all of your purses plus everything else. I haven't heard of insurance specifically for purses, but it probably does exist.

Wow. I need to ask Farmers, which is where I have my homeowner's and auto policy.
I think if your bag is worth more than the cheapest deductible (let's say $1000 deductible) it's worth it to fully insure the bag.
Taking pictures, with the dates on the pics, and keeping receipts, scanning the receipts
for backup, is what I always do. I keep all original boxes and dust bag too.
I use this very easy scanner Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 and it will scan it in pdf and back it up in a folder on your computer, then you can further back it up by copying the contents to a cd rom.

Hey, Just in case :)

I have State Farm on my home also and I need to check on getting the insurance on my iPhone and I guess I should ask about my bags and the two flat screen TV's that I purchased.

I had my purse stolen from my car a few years ago-- a horrible experience, but not all bad because while looking for a replacement bag is when I started looking at Coach. :p

I'm pretty sure it was covered by homeowner's, not auto, since it was personal property. It wasn't specifically insured, and I didn't have any receipts or documentation for anything, but everything was covered. The purse itself wasn't worth all that much, but when I listed everything that was in it, it really added up to a lot of money, about $1,500. I just provided the brand name and a description and the insurance company reimbursed at full retail for comparable items, minus the deductible.

Now that I have several (way too many) Coach bags at home, I think it would be a great idea to document them with photos. Last summer we were evacuated due to a wildfire that was getting too close and we ran through the house videotaping all our valuables. Of course, the first thing dh got on tape was his big screen TV! I'll have to add my Coach collection to the video now.

Our house was burglarized a couple of years ago, and one of my purses was stolen. It was covered under my homeowner's insurance policy. They gave me 100% retail price which was nice. Better than my grandmother's jewelry which I didn't realize until after it was stolen. It only covered the first $500. :( My kids will get my Coach purses when I kick it instead of jewelry.

I discussed this with my insurance agent face to face and he was more concerned with my jewelry pieces!!! He said that my purses would easily be covered under "contents." I expressed to him the value and how hard some of them maybe to replace depending on how many there are for sale and his concern was still my jewelry!!!!

I think if you have a good amount for "contents" in your policy you should be fine. NOW, if all my 20+ bags were LV, Chloe, Balenciaga etc I'd insist as they retail for 10 times per!!

Either way, it comes down to documenting... I mean if you get it covered under home owner's or renters... how do they know you actually own the purse if you don't have receipts or pictures of it for reference?

Document, document, document. Keep a copy of a CD or scanned receipts with a family member, always helps to have copies in places outside the home if you don't have a small fire proof safe.

I have separate riders for my purses, my jewelry, and my 3k violin.
