I have a high value rider that is attached to my policy. The average homeowners will not cover items of extraordinary value which designer purses, some jewelry and furs are considered. It costs more, but I send my receipts for the bags to my adjuster and he adds them to the schedule so I am reimbursed the cost of the bags and not a depreciated amount.

Be aware this costs a LOT more than a usual policy and some insurance companies will not do it.

I'm just curious, do any of you buy insurance for your bags? What if there was a fire? Without insurance, I would have to start over from point 1. I'm considering buying insurance for them. I spent almost $100K on my bags...I really don't want to lose them all. I have home insurance but my insurance agent said that those 'expensive' bags are not covered. They only pay you up to a maximum - but their max doesn't come near $$ I spent. What do you think? :confused1::confused1::confused1:

The most expensive bag I have right now is my speedy, and then just a pouchette and some coach bags and iv been thinking about the same thing...if they would be covered becuse my sister mentioned it...and iv been wondering especially as Im getting more expensive bags if I should get extra insurance later on....

There is an insurance co. called Collectors Insurance Agency (CIA).
They deal only in collectibles - coins, stamps, etc.
I think this would include purses.

It is usually cheaper to insure through them than to add a rider to your HO policy.
Plus, you save yourself the weird looks from your insurance agent.

Husband has a some collectibles and we use them.

(I am in no way affiliated with this insurance company other than being a customer.
I receive no kickback from referrals either.)

Keep your recipts and take pictures off all of your handbags and yes esp, if you have very expensive bunch of bags list them on your insurance. Doesn't this cover all your belongings in the house. This is a good idea I hadn't thought about until you mentioned it.

I do. I have pictures of all my bags & receipts too..but my insurance agent said that doesn't matter. My home insurance won't cover expensive items like that unless I buy extra. They only pay you what "regular" items cost, they don't care about designers.

My chanel is insured on my policy as a separate item. Doing this eliminates the deductible and is coverage for "all" risks. That is not the case if you do not list it separate. Check with your agent to make sure.

Hey just out of curiosity, how do you get insurance on a handbag? I saw something on a thread and was curious! lol Do you go to a bank/insurance company and get insurance on a bag like you would for a house?

How many of you insure your purses? If so what company? I'm having a hard time finding an insurance company that will specifically cover bags that are stolen or burned in a fire, but not simply lost. Any thoughts?

I have a general rentor's insurance policy that covers my bags, it includes theft when I travel. I think it covers lost bags. Maybe they don't distinguish because people could just say the bag was stolen when it was lost and the company's don't want to have to deal with the hassel that would be.

This should generally be covered under contents/possessions in your homeowners policy. You do not need something that is *specifically* purse insurance. It's best to contact your agent to make sure. If you don't own a home, you should really have renter's insurance. Contact State Farm, Allstate, etc. to inquire. I know mine are covered under my homeowner's insurance. I have specifically asked about it.
