I have 3 Gucci bags purchased from the Gucci Boutique at Fairfax Square, Vienna, Va. and they all have 6 numbers on top and 6 numbers on the bottom.
Thanks Sweet Pea for the link...i never knew that you could actually check the serial number to see if it matches the bag.....i bought two Gucci Handbags, the "Pelham" and the "New Jackie".....

This may be a dumb question::

if you google the serial number given to you, and a bunch of websites selling "replica" handbags show up, it's a good indicator that it is fake? Or will fakes often copy the real serial number??

^^Yup! Fakes also have the exact same serial numbers. That's how they fool uninformed consumers into thinking they're getting the real deal. This is why it's always, always good to get a picture of the tag (front and back) when you're thinking of purchasing online, like ebay. It's the only way to tell whether it's for real or not.

Argghhh! So fakes will often have the same serial numbers as the real deals?? :(
I am trying to find a deal on my favorite Gucci bag (can't afford the $1000 price tag at the moment) and I KNOW deals can be found on ebay... I found one that looks soo real (but with Gucci, I understand that it is really, really hard to tell fakes from the authentics)... I typed in the serial number, and the model came up (Gucci Pelham) but then when I scrolled down some more, there were websites that sell replica handbags that came up too! I have pictures of the tag/serial number:

i just inherited a gucci bag from my aunt, it has 6 numbers on top and 4 on the bottom, i will be posting pics in the authenticity thread. but from the sounds of it, it is possible that it could be real as some people have serial numbers like this one?

HI There, I am new to this wonderful forum and I have read the terms etc but still not 100% how things work here, I am looking at a bag advertised on Trademe(NZ) as Gucci, but I have a feeling it is fake it just looks a bit "off", however I could be totally wrong, it is a new trader with only one trade under her belt, c`an anyone here tell me if this is an authentic Gucci before I think about bidding, thanks http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=241783738 that is the listng address, any help would be greatly appreciated as I work hard for my money and don't want to throw it away on a fake also if it si fake then I can let Trademe know is is a bogus trader, have asked for a pic of the serial number but no response from the trader yet
