That's terrible! I'm sorry you had to go through that. It's so hard to buy on E-Bay... Sometimes everything lines up, but you still have a gut feeling that something is just not right... I was trying to buy a gucci purse last few days and saw one that I really love, but it had a 4 number serial code (second code on the inside of the "Gucci Made in Italy" tag. I saw another identical bag and it had 6 numbers... Even though the serial number is supposed to be unique for each bag, I would assume it has to be the same amount of digits... Don't you think?

Hi ladies,
I was wondering if anyone knew if the bottom number on same exact purse should have the same number of digits. For example, I am viewing 2 Medium Guccissima Horsebit Hobos (on Ebay, both from what looks to be reputable sellers). Both have an identical number on top (6 digits); however, the bottom (which I believe is supposed to be the unique serial number) - 1st one has a 6 digit number and 2nd one has a 4 digit number... Can anyone help? Please!!!

no, it doesnt have to be exact. its common. in general, the total numbers on the serial tag should be 10-13. so its normal to have only 4 on the bottom. the bottom numbers is the serial number/supplier code.

Hi girls, I'm new to this forum and just try to bid a Gucci bag on ebay. If the bottom number is serial number or supplier code, does it mean that two bag in same style could have same series number? Since the bag I'm interesting in has the same number with another same style bag on other website. Is this a red flag? Many thanks!

Hi, I usually am a Chanel or Vuitton lover (dont kill me guys) but I found a vintage Gucci bag that i loved and had to have. I have been reading this thread about serial numbers and am a bit confused, this bag has only 10 numbers. It reads 001-084-4793. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

thats common. if you look just a few post before you, it states that explanation. your bag is vintage.

the serial tag/number is KEY to authenticity. we authenticators cant base our judgement just by "knowing" the numbers. we need to see clear pics. otherwise authentication would be worthless. its the "details"/font of the numbers that verify authenticity.

Hello, could someone please explain how to read Gucci serial numbers? I know that the top one is the style number. I just want to find out when my bag was made. Thanks so much!

Gucci Serial Number Tag

Here is the only distinguishing feature unique to each Gucci piece. There is always a leather tag on the interior of the bag just below the interior zippered pocket if the bag has such a pocket. If it doesn’t have an interior pocket this tag is still stitched where an interior pocket would typically be.

At the top of the tag is the symbol ®. Below that it says "GUCCI", and below that, "made in italy". The tag itself is leather and the color is the same as the leather finishing that is typical in a Gucci item.

On the back of the tag is the style/model number and a 4 or 6 digit serial number. This is all stamped into the leather.
