Love my new bag

I've been catching up on some fab bamboo top handle bags - especially those mini shopper totes - I'm getting a tax refund and perplexed as to whether I need a new bag or save the money...

You have a fabulous bag collection already, but I visited Gucci recently (just to get a repair back you of a very old bag understand and some of the bags I never even noticed are just gorgeous...I sometimes ask myself why I'm waiting for an Hermes bag (for at least 8 months now) when actually Gucci's are so beautiful and last forever. Very temped to get a Med BTH as a special order instead of H

Is there anything you're missing from your collection. A colour, size or a style?

That's probably what I'm missing! Looking at the dimensions it's slightly larger than the disco soho which I sold last year. Do you remember if any of them were on sale? (I'm guessing no)

A mini-shopper is very 'you' . It's a proper bag, just mini sized, so many of the minis I see from other companies lose something in translation . I know they are selling very well ATM so I wouldn't have thought they've been in the sale. You never know what's going to happen with so much change at Gucci, they could clear the FG stock any minute and we only have a month until the usual sales time

Do Gucci bags go on sale in May????? I'm asking because DH and I are going to the Gucci boutique later this month & I'm looking at 3 possible bags (only choosing ONE, mind you!). I should ask the SA before we buy, if any of them will be going on sale, right?

Usually May. After some highly significant changes at Gucci, no one yet knows whether everything will go on sale or there will be no more sales ever again so I can't say for sure.

My advice is to either hedge your bets, Try on everything that catches your eye in store first. If there is a bag that you can barely leave in the store it might be better to swallow the full retail, no guarantees of what goes in the sale. If you are happy to take your chances, and one of the bags you're really interested in does turn up in the sale do not hesitate. on-line, some people buy lots of bags on their CCs and only pick at home, sending all but one back, unfortunately this makes it even harder to snag what you really want (but it also means check back and don't give up as things suddenly pop up again even though it appeared sold out). If there is a sale the discount is at 30% (50% shoes and rtw) after which it goes to the outlets. OR, buy what you really only like/want/need before they all disappear. If the bags you like are in Black and you want black better to get them now. I would also advise the same if in any shade of bright pink or red, as even if they make the sale they will be gone before you can say POP.

This is how it tends to go with Gucci:
Popular things in great colours sell out before sale
Black and neutral colours don't tend to go on sale for years after all the other seasonal colours
New BTH, New Jackies and certain other bags don't go to sale
Most exotics/precious skins don't tend to sale just because there are less of them around (often making 'guest appearances' only, and are passed-around' from store to store). If they do make the sale thay tend to be the last to go because most people are looking for a bargain.
Less popular colours in popular styles sell out at preview/pre-sale before most get to try (check back regularly and see if someone posts a preview link on this sub-forum)

Unfortunately, the SA's won't know until a day or two before the sale what is going to sale


Presale in store are by invite only - these are for customers that have bought a certain amount at full price through the season
Preview on-line is for people that have done the same on-line, but the links get 'whispered' around the Net

That's very sweet of you, your sister and SIL! I found it too small for me unfortunately because it is a pretty bag and received a lot of compliments on it. At the time, I bought a Coach Preston mini at the outlet and it's slightly larger than the Disco so I was carrying that everywhere during the summer. Right now I feel like I've been in a Gucci drought and want a new bag! That's bad because really, do I need a new bag?

All 3 bags I'm looking at are Jackies. One of them is brand new, so I know for sure it won't be going on sale. Another is one of the Jackie bags with interchangeable straps... the SA emailed that she is going to have to work some magic to get it into the boutique for me to try, so if she can manage it and I love it, I'd buy it right away. It wouldn't be fair of me, after she worked so hard to get it into the store, to say "Never mind... I'll wait and see if it goes on sale." It's this brown suede, so who knows if it would ever go on sale anyway. What do you think?

I already own the Bamboo Shopper Leather Tote in Medium, so I'm looking for something different this year. And the Jackies are SUCH a classic design. So if they don't go on sale, so be it. I only want to own what I love, not what I can buy for less $$$. Like many of us, I've learned that lesson the hard way!

Some of the non-traditional shaped Jackies may go on sale sometime but my gut instinct agrees with yours, too new. In the Europe, when a store gets something in especially, it usually goes back if it's not sold, not sure if it's the same in the US or like H.

Brown Suede, difficult guess, because although suede (usually a Winter material) usually do go in the sale, brown suede is soooo fashionable for this Summer. I know a few weeks ago Sloane St. had already sold out of the larger brown suede Lady Web and they'd only just got them in. BTW, Gucci will clean suede (and nubuck) if that's a deal breaker.

Love the leather of soft Jackie bags, the kind of leather that just gets better and better with age
