This all reminds me that I think I've never posted my 1990s BTH shopper in here.

The outside is tough patent leather and the inside is very soft suede

Now complete with new BTH scarf :tender:

Wow, papertiger, that is too gorgeous for words! And it's sheer perfection with your scarf.

And cheers to you too sweets. I would love to see TFs Gucci collection of bags. Is there a site that you could suggest/recommend? I sure love his lipsticks:)

Early '90s bags were amazing, they went back to the astounding quality and difficult to make bags including the BTH and the (now called) Lady Lock. That;s the era to buy pre-loved if you can find them. TF came up with the BTH back pack which have just been re-introduced http://www.gucci.com/uk/category/f/handbags/backpacks_eu. When TF was made Creative Director the accessories changed a lot, very hit and miss between 1995-2002. Mostly they were just very large or tiny black bags, but then minimalism was the fashion. Under TF, Frida Giannini was brought in to give the bags/shoes some much needed attention in 2002 (she created the Baguette at Fendi before being head hunted by Gucci).

I don't have many TF as CD era bags because my mother bought more in SF and Chanel at that time. Which was much to my disappointment LOL, the minute I could I bought TF RTW. Some is in my private albums like my TF black calf hair jacket, a couple of other black (of course) leather jackets are also his. I haven't a pic of my 2002 springbok jacket, I'll take pics when I can. My mother loves fabulous brightly coloured leather soft hobos and med shoulder bags. Most of TFs bags were very thick, hard, highly polished and mainly BLACK.

There's a book called Gucci: The making of which is pretty good. But I notice that Tom Ford was almost a dirty word, very little about his work for Gucci. My other TF era bags were designed by FG

Oh, papertiger that is to die for as the expression goes! Love, love the combination. Have you posted pics of your bamboo Gucci bags together? I would love to see them because the last one I saw posted was fantastic. As I think about it I would love to see your collection of bags and not just Gucci. If I am being rude, I don't mean to be so pardon me. Absolutely no luck for me on the bamboo scarves. I am unwilling to pay import and currency exchange on the ones from England. Just a few weeks ago I bought two bags from Scotland and one I paid no import and one they absolutely made me pay through the nose. No way to win!

I haven't taken a BTH family pic yet, I should do that, good idea. I have over 30 Gucci bags so I doubt they'd fit in one pic  Send me a friend request and you can see them from my private albums if you like. Not all my bags are there but I think I managed all my Guccis.

Really sorry about the bamboo scarves  . Did you see the bamboo design with the scarves/sails in between? Lovely for Summer no? http://www.gucci.com/uk/styles/3714833G0019969#

Could be there's still a few of these in Gucci back rooms

Thank you Elaine, such kind words. That bag comes out every Summer and always receives many compliments, as I'm sure does your beautiful bamboo shopper

WHAT A STUNNER!
I always thought Tom Ford brought a unique and slightly edgy style to Gucci. Certainly stands the test if time!

Thank you skyqueen :flowers:

I'm pleased to say, it's also a very well made piece (can you imagine sewing and hand-knotting all that patent leather :-s ) I think you put your finger on it, past the commercial pieces, I always think Gucci has a little edge.

I'd love a TF lipstick, there is a colour I like ATM, very close to my own colour, just got to remember when I'm out.

If you are talking about Tom Ford lipsticks this is my opinion of the products:shocked::shocked: It has been about a year since I bought any of his so since I haven't been able to get to a shop where they are sold I ordered from Nordstrom. I was happy to try both and both crumbled and left large clumps on my lips. For the first time I returned one of his products, actually two of his products. So disappointed and there is no reason certainly not too hot or cold.

That is terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE! I hope like Elaine, that was a bad batch. Maybe the stored them in a ridiculous temperature :nogood:

Oh dear... what a shame! I believe I bought mine at NM when we were in San Francisco, so I was able to try a tester. I've only had my tube for a little over a month; it goes on absolutely smoothly, and stays on for ages. Definitely not crumbly, and spreads beautifully. Which is what I had heard about his lipsticks, but I had wondered if it was hype.

I wonder if you got a bad batch? What a shame!

Glad to hear. I think I need try before I buy.

I also hope it was just a one off problem. I believe what upset me so was the fact both actually crumbled. The two defective lipstick shades were Quiver and Smitten. For the present I will continue with Lancone, Clarions, Bobby Brown, and Marc Jacobs. As you can see I buy according to shade but my favorite brands are Lancone and Clarins.

I'm taking notes. TF cosmetics is made my the very reputable and established house of Estee Lauder, so it makes it even more surprising and awful.

Come to think of it, not everything TF is made in heaven, I was going to treat myself to his Private Blend Arabian Wood after all the research etc :-s and the others :doggie: Such a shame, I really love my mum's Envy and Rush, if they were available I'd buy them now.

I used an old Estée Lauder tube of lipstick yesterday and it was just like new. Yes, I agree, Estée Lauder is truly outstanding and I have used many of their products. I have spoken with a representative from Nordstrom and they will pull the return and discuss it with a company representative. She did point out I had chosen a soft glossy type but she said it shouldn't crumble and leave pieces (small) on the lips. If I receive any input I'll let everyone know.

Wow, thanks for this info dear. I really enjoyed reading. re the scarves, I do like the bamboo and sails one. I notice the price us the same as H silks. Yikes. How does the quality compare? Do they go on sale frequently if at all?

The bamboo one reminds me of Robinson Chic. Probably easier to wear. Really nice for Summer.

According to my records :p I have 11 Gucci silk scarves, 9 bought new.

Gucci's scarves bought new are softer than H. A bit like H after washing. Thick, but not H at its thickest. The creases drop out more easily. Like H the 70s are slightly thinner than the 90s. All hand rolled, hand sewn edge. The labels are too big so I unpick them and leave them in the box. My vintage Flora 70 (wherever it is :-s) is much softer (can't be through washing because they can't be washed). The merely old one (perhaps 2000) is really shiny. The dip dyes (called over-dyed) are also similar to H's, very soft.

Most designs can be bought on sale but they are usually the first things to sell out on line even in the private/preview. Unless there's one you can't live without (like me and the rainbow 70) wait for the sales in store, people head for the shoes and the bags first.

I hope you gave her 'a look' :sunnies I would have been :lecture:

no idea when the in store sales will be in our area as I've never been invited to one! Is there one usually after Christmas? I'll call the store today to find out. but usually avoid after Chrsitmas rush back downtown the day after since it is madness. I wond of the bamboo sail scarf is spring collection and not likely on sale until end of season? Thanks dear, I'm intrigued.

BTW, I was at Barneys yesterday evening and they were showcasing some Heritage Auction Bags. amongst all the birdies was one Gucci Bamboo handle tote in the most glorious red! It was stunning leather, and the handles was a large semi arc. I had to try it on of course, but the bamboo handles just was not comfortable to wear on the shoulder. If it had an additional strap like the tote shown by another poster in the early pages of the thread, I might have jumped for it!

My vintage bamboo handle gucci I love it so classy and with a beautiful red leather lining .unfortunately I didn't get the long strap and mirror with it , would really love to get hold of both to add to it one day.it's in great condition and well taken care of. Hello everyone! I'm new to this forum and have just joined for a bit of advice. Just purchased my first Gucci handbag in the winter sales but not sure if I should keep it or save the money to put towards a more classic style. Here's the link to it (I have it in the black colour):

Would love to hear your thoughts :)

This is a classic style SKY, this style goes waaaay back and is reinvented again and again by Gucci, it was a huge hit in 2002 with the Bullet bag and you have the very latest version in a very pretty colour.

Sorry for not seeing your post before and a very Happy New Year to you . The additional strap only came along in the 1990s. I like to have both options too but I think I could forgo the strap if I liked the colour enough.

Absolutely gorgeous, I  the black or navy with red interiors. I wonder if Gucci could make you a strap

I love anything with the bamboo detail as it is so iconic Gucci. I'm surprised Gucci put this on sale and I agree the color is very current. I think you'll find it wears well with lots of clothing choices. Nice choice.
