Got A Letter From Coach...

6 returns may not be a lot but 6 returns without receipts may be a little strange. I think I've only made one exchange without a receipt in my entire life. It was just an attempt to play devil's advocate as I've worked on databases (not for coach but for another retail store) where exchanges were also registered as returns even if it was just an exchange for a different size. That was a small store though, so I imagine whatever software Coach uses to track boutique customer data would be entirely different.

I agree that it was drastic though, and if you're also being treated poorly there, that's more than enough reason to quit buying in itself. I'd never continue to shop at a store whose employees didn't respect me. I think I'm among the minority when I say that I've actually never had any issues with being talked down to. The SAs at my store are the sweetest people ever and I usually don't even buy anything. I've never had issues returning anything either though I don't make many returns.

For me is 50/50 in the boutiques in my city. I find it that it depends on the time you visit. Towards night time the SAs are more tired and less likely to help and too early in the day they are just not awake enough :p I say mid afternoon (2-3) is when I have gotten the best CS. At the outlet however, the two times I ever set foot in there I was not helped and got the stink face when I started thinning out on the bags I was actually taking home. Oh, and in my last visit they just dumped my stuff in the bag. No wrapping no boxes. And it was raining outside :push: I had to go back and wrap them MYSELF :nogood:

I had to return something at Coach one time and was made to feel like "you are such a loser and probably could not afford the bag to begin with". It is kind of funny and I hate to sound like a snob but who are the SAs to look down on anyone? How much money do they really make at Coach or Saks for that matter to make a judgement call on what a potential shopper can/cannot afford based on a first impression? I bought 3 bags in one month. 2 of them from Coach.com. I know will be returning one of them. And I feel like I need to bring in my receipt for the second bag and say "But I bought another item" to justify it to the SA, as to why I don't want to look for something else. Or even spare myself the humiliation and pay for the return shipping to Coach.

Why should we care so much? About a 10 second snooty look? But we do. I have learned not to judge people on how they look, especially when it comes to making a call about how much money you think they have. I work for a Fortune 500 company and our atmosphere is very casual. In fact the Executives never wear suits and ties. I have been at events where a Sr VP gave a speech wearing a white T-shirt, faded jeans and sneakers. If you saw this man on the street, based on his appearance you might wonder if he could afford bus fare.....the man is a billionaire. In this company this is not uncommon and where our HQ is based, the stores tend to not be so snooty because you can't easily discern the billionaire from the "just looking and can't afford to buy". Unfortunately I work at a branch office so do not reap the benefits of this :)

Another thing I am wondering...in the boutique the SAs must get a commission. If you return a bag, say a week later, does the SA lose the commission? I am assuming the commission paid out once a month so this could be possible....and may very well be the reason they are so miffed about the returns??

Wow that really sucks... Well I hope you can fix with them. I think it is weird that they would do that. But at the same time I am assuming that they think it will make you want to "save" receipts. Well if I were to get a card like that I be pretty upset if I knew I was not doing nothing wrong.

WTF are you suppossed to do if you buy a bag and decide a week later you don't like it??? Are you going to be allowed to return/exchange WITH receipt?

I believe that in the original post Miss Evy said that she would be allowed, with receipt. So, in that sense there is no ban on returns/exchanges, just a requirement in the future that she presents the receipt.

It sucks to be implicitly accused when you are innocent -- it's probably humiliating. However, if they are trying to deal with the cases that people have mentioned above involving returning stolen merchandise (whether for cash, exchange, or credit), even though it's hard, I wouldn't take it personally. They never refused one of your 6 transactions, they're just telling you to keep receipts for the future. It would have been unfair to refuse the transactions on the basis of a false charge of fraud, but they didn't actually do that.

Again, I'm sorry that your feelings were hurt.

That really stinks! :tdown:I don't understand why Coach would get their panties all in a bunch over returns without receipts. They don't give you cash back but merchandise credit, so they are still keeping your money. It really sounds like Coach is making a lot of loyal customers unhappy, and in these economic times they definitely should not be doing that. Even if you leave Coach, I hope you don't leave us.

I couldn't agree more. I'm very disappointed :nogood:
I won't be leaving the forum :flowers: I just will no longer be spending my hard-earned money on Coach.

One of my boutiques here is in a very high traffic mall. Over the Christmas season they had about 13 or 14 bags often 4 at a time get taken out of the store. I was there for one of the times. A guy and his wife simply picked up 2 each and ran out the door and into the mall. They knocked one of the greeters over practically and knocked over a display as well. Policy is not to chase for the staff safety as it is in most retail stores. By the time mall security got there they had of course disappeared. Once the staff got over the shock they started a list of what to watch for as far as returns go. They said that Coach has this happen to them in stores all over the country. Im guessing that with the economy and the thefts that Coach is hurting and doing something to prevent the mass amounts of money down the drain. As unfair is that is for the innocent shoppers like you, just like all areas of life we are usually punished for the actions of others. I hope loss prevention hears what you have told us and steps up to the plate with a big fat apology.

The boutique I frequent often has a guard on duty there. Theft is on the rise in the malls.

Ugh. That's awful. When I hear stories like that I really wonder how these people keep their jobs. I'm having trouble keeping a job yet people who don't even do theirs get away with it?

It might be the same here. At my outlet, there's always one of my two favorite SAs working and they are so sweet to me. I don't really bother with anyone else there. I used to go to a boutique in the mall where I used to live and nobody was especially nice but nobody was really snooty either.
I moved over the summer so I don't go there anymore but my new one is lovely. Its in the casino about 15 mins away and I go in there sometimes just to hang out and chat, they're all such lovely people.

I hope they work there for a long time, I'd hate to deal with the horror stories I hear on tPF

My feelings were not hurt, I'm just surprised by all of this.
And they may not have denied my exchanges, but they sure as heck were not nice about them :nogood: I could tell they were annoyed, but quickly recovered when I picked out something new to bring home with me instead  Methinks I will not miss Coach that much... I am more excited to explore what else is there ;)

Do it!
Do it!
Do it!

I'll be getting my first LV this week and I'm so excited.
I'm also wanting a Mono Speedy 35 at some point.

I know COACH has a "loose" return policy, but if Evy exchanged, what's the big deal?

I'm waiting to see the Plum Patent Sabrina and there's a new ring I like.
That's about it for me.
These latest tactics and "bags" are for the birds.....

I will!
I will!

I'm selling 6 of my Coach loves to pay for my LV
and perhaps a little Gucci :p

I am sorry that has happened to you and I understand your frustration. I hate to play devils advocate, but I do understand where they are comming from becuase I used to manage a retail store a few years ago and that is why a lot of stores ask for Id for a no recipiept exchange/return becuase it does pose a loss prevention problem. I am not saying that you are the problem but problem people that abuse the system in any way ruin it for the honest people that just love Coach. I really understand where you are coming from and I hope you stick around TPF even if you stop buying Coach I am sorry that happened to you.

Amen. I don't dress trashy, for the most part I wear high end clothing, take showers, etc..lol. There was no reason to prejudge me. And considering he makes probably $9 an hour...he can kiss my A$$. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Of course in the moment, I was shocked and didn't know quite what to say. but now I'd like to compare paychecks with the jerk.

Whichever bag you decide to buy Evy, post it here so we can see too. I never go to the LV forum. Too much Aquarelle envy. I'd die for the watercolor speedy. sighhhh

I understand the reason of the letter, I just don't appreciate how accusatory sounding it is :nogood:

I will be sticking around the forum, but no more $$$$ is going to Coach :noworry: ever again
