And I wasn't banned :faint: I just get the luxury of buying as much as I want, but I can't return/ exchange :p Might as well be banned, eh?

I'm sorry you received this letter as a loyal customer who didn't do anything wrong.

However, do keep in mind that you're not banned from returning or exchanging -- only from doing so without receipts. I also think they handled it the right way by asking you to call them -- if you can discuss with them why you had a large number of returns without receipt in 6 months, they may decide that their letter cast too wide a net. I understand if this turns you off to Coach and you don't want to call them, but it sounds like they realize there may be circumstances when someone does have a legitimate reason for these types of returns.

That being said, I think Coach is doing a good thing by bucking down on things that raise a red flag in their systems. Every time there is a return without receipt, their risk of taking back a fake bag or a stolen bag increases.

Coach's official return policy requires a receipt or the online packaging. Although they've been lenient with you with their policy, they have the right to enforce the policy, esp. when they determine that your returns without receipt have been excessive.

Hi
Sorry to hear if your no return issue. I had quiter a different experience. I was handed a letter when I was checking out at a outlet. My letter was one that stated I could return but no buy their profuct, As I had bought too much. That was humiliating. A friend of mine was also given one after a large previous purchase. I guess the do not want anyones business. I did not have a return issue and rarely did returns.:shrugs:

I have to agree with peacocky. Given that these returns were at different stores, probably no particular manager was questioned, but it is the manager of a store who gets taken to task when LP comes calling. LP are the thugs of the retail world, and managers and even District Managers don't want them to come calling. Like some police departments, they can make you confess to things you never heard of just to make them leave! (Okay, that's an exaggeration, but no one is ever happy to see them).

There have been other stories - ones that made the news - about people being banned from department stores. Frequent returns without a receipt flags a customer as an LP danger at ANY store, so this issue is not exclusive to Coach. As a customer it seems offensive, but from the outside with no explanation 6 returns without receipts in 6 months points to troubling issues. It isn't personal; it is business. As offended as some people are by this, it is probably a smart business move. If a company cannot stop the bleeding (theft), they will make sure they bandage the wound (preventing returns). In an economy like this, without policies like that they will hemorrhage cash and die.

When I go into the LV store the proper etiquette is to ask an SA to see a bag. I see most people do this when they go into the store. Then you have some people just go in and touch all sorts of bags and with no intention of buying. As a customer I would not want a bag thats been touched by a bunch of people and still pay that hefty price.

i didn't go in to be a looky loo. I was going to purchase the mongram speedy 30, but had never seen a real one in person. i asked for that specific bag, and still got treated like crap. i think it was just that guy. he was very apparent in his opinion that i was not up to his "code." anyway.....I LOVE YOUR AVATAR!!!! I'm a freak and have the bambi awards performance saved in my favorites...how sad is that?

that's no good:sad:

Amen to that :nogood:

I would trade my entire Legacy Collection for the Watercolor Speedy  It's that lovely :cloud9:

Now see, I'm the opposite... I would trade my watercolor speedy for an entire Legacy collection any day (if I didn't already have the Legacy pieces!). :p To me there is no comparision, but I think it's great we all have different tastes!!

I'm really, really sorry this happened to you, hon, but I'm glad it was not handled (presented) in a manner similar to what others on this board have faced in the past!

I can see both sides... IMHO Coach's return policy is way too liberal, which does get them in trouble. What Peacocky posted is 100% accurate, and while it seems like a personal decision, it is actually a business decision from a company's perspective.

Unfortunately, because of a few bad apples, the rest of us have to pay at times too. I guess I already knew they flagged this, so I always try to make sure I get both receipts if I think the return potential is there (in case I lose my receipt, I have a gift receipt in the pocket of the item). However, from a personal perspective, I wouldn't like to receive that letter either..especially when I know I'm not a criminal. It's a shame that legitimate people do get flagged while the true fraudsters seem to get away with it time and time again.

I don't think that scoping out other brands is ever a bad thing, whether it's because of a situation like this or just in general. I try to keep an open mind, and there are soooo many beautiful bags out there!! So whatever brand you choose to go to, I hope you enjoy your new purchases. Buy what you like!!!

^ ITA with baglady. i love the watercolour speedy but no way am i giving up my legacy for one! :nogood:

but i'm really sorry that this happened, evy. i hope you'll still hang out with us and i hope you find happiness with LV! :hugs:

I got a similar letter a year ago ... it was questioning returns although all of mine were done with receipts! I spoke with the lost prevention guy and didn't let him up for air. Turns out the SA's doing the returns had all spelled my name differently when entering it into the computer (although they were given my id). As my name was listed multiple times but spelled differently they were suspecting some sort of identity fraud ... its funny when they read the spellings back it was clearly typos. They corrected them all so I was listed the same way in the computer each time but I never got an apology for the nasty letter ... but I can make returns.

^^ No, no commission but there are certain incentives.

The incorrect entry issue IS a big problem at Coach. I've had that done to me, and I'm pretty sure this is why my husband gets "deleted" from the system frequently. It's funny but some of this became clear to me when I was at the San Juan outlet....I learned that another person with my last name lived in my same town but on a different street. That SA wanted to change this person's info to mine, so I have a feeling we kept getting thrown out of the system because they kept opening the wrong customer's profile and then editing that one. I find the whole database situation to be very frustrating at times. My husband made a purchase over the weekend, and again, they could not find his info. However, I made a purchase last night, and it was no problem.

I can see how altered info can lead to identity questions.

I will!
I will!

I'm selling 6 of my Coach loves to pay for my LV
and perhaps a little Gucci :p

I understand your frustration, but Coach again has the most lax return policy IMO. Gucci you cannot even return after 10 days (if bought at the boutique) and LV, I think its the same (I have a receipt in my car & will have to double check cause it is written on it).I could be wrong. But I know Gucci is really strict.

I'm sorry this happened to you, maybe after you speak to them you will have a better understanding of why this happened? Maybe like handbag*girl mentioned they were not entering some information the same each time & it became suspicious?

I echo what peacocky, baglady, and others have said. It is not personal. This is a database system alerting them of a possible situation. It's just numbers, math, and a computer program. It is a very smart move on Coach corporate's part. And I think the letter was well written. it said "unusual" returns and explained why. Something is probably wrong in their computer system. It might be an error on their part.

You have to be very careful going to designers like LV and Gucci. They regulate the returns and exchanges pretty excessively. And since it's so much more money, you have to be VVERRYY sure this is what you want to buy because after 10 days or so you CANNOT return. I always ere on the side of caution. I don't like returns so I either buy very carefully or keep the things I get if they are gifts. My time is much more valuable then having to go in and exchange and etc, etc. I guess I would also tell people that might get me coach just to get me a gift card because I've been having problems with returns. This might alleviate all headaches in the end.

I really don't think this warrants leaving coach, at least not in my perspective. I hope when you talk to them you can explain your situation and they can accommodate you accordingly. good luck

Wow. I see both sides of the coin, but maybe Coach should introduce a policy of no exchanges without receipts and be sure to have it posted. If I am a regular Coach customer paying that kind of money, I'd be pissed enough to boycott if I got a letter like that. And I've been to LV only once, and I handled a couple of bags, and was treated very well by the SAs, even though I didn't end up buying. LVs are a bit too pricey, IMHO, and I haven't found one that I love enough to spend that kind of dollers on. In any case, I'm sorry you experienced that, and I hope they do something to rectify it once you call loss prevention.

I am a current customer of both Coach (20 Coach bags!) and LV (4 lovely LV bags!) and I have to say that Coach definitely has a relaxed return policy. If you buy from LV, please save the receipt and keep it in a safe place. LV's return policies is not Coach's so please save the receipt the next time around. From my point of view, LV is more strict than Coach. If you get a letter from Coach regarding strange returns even if they weren't returns, LV might so the same. It is awful to think of being "banned" from both brands. Whenever I buy either a Coach or LV, I am very obsessive over the receipt because I view them as investment pieces. So I keep all of my receipts in a little box for safe keeping. I've been very fortunate never to have made a return or exchange and also fortunate that the SAs from my local Coach boutique have been cool and super friendly. The SAs can definitely say that I take my lovely time in the store from being super picky. But they don't mind because I've never wanted to take one of my lovely Coach bags back because they are all keepers to me.

I was speaking to the manager at my local outlet last week about returns, and they said a lot of customers abuse their policy and loss prevention IS paying attention. As long as you give Coach your name, address, ect...loss prevention is tracking your buying habits, and that includes returns. This may lead to the letters that restrict you from returning OR buying. This is not new. If you look at the threads, they go back a few years.
