Giving TIPS to sales in order to get a BIRKIN?

Sorry to say, but I can back up Heatherlite and say that I too (as I have earlier mentioned in this thread) have been offered Birkins without mentioning it. And it was via phone. I do not think that the SAs name is critical to the point being made at the end of the day...that some SAs operate different that other SAs and it really is the "luck of the draw" for each customer. Lucky one time doesnt mean we always will be...

I am weary of mentioning the SA because I can only imagine the deluge of phone calls the SA will receive. It's a question of just being patient and not expecting to be treated as "special"..not having any expectations. A number of SAs have my wish list. I never bother them with my requests again. I think they appreciate that.

Heatherlite - You lucky gal !!! Your SA is so nice to keep an eye for you. In my local H store, the SAs have to get the manager's approval before they can set any Ks & Bs, EVEN THOUGH IT IS ON DISPLAY !!!! Is it true in SCP or does your SA offer you without getting the manager's approval first ? I find it funny that the manager has to approve each birkin's purchase.

I'm unaware of the SCP or any other boutique's policies. I just feel fortunate to have gotten the bag I coveted. How that happened is really none of my business.

This is what I'm weary of too by mentioning my SA's name(s).

In the United States no one can refuse to sell you something that is on the shelf (not display as in windows)--it would be discriminatory

maybe you havent read the entire thread and the bad experience is not because we have to have a birkin and God forbid we except them to hand over a b or k to us as soon as we walk in....it is disrespectful and attitude that all are c/o and good customer service and to be treated with respect is a rightful expectation whether you walk in walmart or Hermes. and sharing name of SA maybe you did not read it that it was asked by private messaging and not to mention names on open forum so i dont see any issue with that we joined tpf so we can share knowledge and our love for Hrmes and help......especially now when holiday season is around and it is the season of giving.

I believe Heatherlite intended to say she feels "wary" (i.e., cautious, concerned) about naming her SA. I agree that being thoughtful about if, when, and how one makes requests of an SA is important. For the most part, the SAs themselves do not have complete freedom to offer everything and anything to their clients, so they have to walk a delicate line between satisfying each of their customers and promising goods that they cannot provide. I never want to put my SA in an uncomfortable position, and in turn I only ask that she is honest with me about the likelihood of my obtaining whatever it is.

I think it's a bit over the top to ask for someone's SA contact, because with a lot of stores and brands (not just Hermes), that contact is based on a long-standing relationship. There is no point in being peeved because someone doesn't want to give you this information - just find a store you like, buy what you like, and work with the sales people who give you the kind of service you feel you want.

I agree. I might recommend an SA to a personal friend but not to someone I really dont know for the reason's Mindi B stated.

Thank you Mistikat and Hermesaholic and Mindy. You said it better than I did. Respect goes both ways - treating SAs with respect garners respect in return. It was only by joining TPF that I learned how to buy Hermes, whether in the boutiques or online.

Exactly. Perfectly stated.

Very wise. I would only share the name with a good friend, not total strangers.

It may be better not to post this kind of information in such a public forum to start- I understand the thrill of getting a covetted bag but then to share the personal information about how it was achieved only fuels the frenzy and the demand to get names, etc. Out of respect for the kind SA's who offered these covetted bags over the phone, etc. I would not divulge this kind of information on tPF.

I beg to differ. The information was shared to diminish the frenzy, not to exacerbate it. It was given in the spirit of helping seemingly newer members get a sense of how to form relationships with SAs over time. Never did I for a moment think I'd be asked for what I deem the personal information of sharing the name of the SA who was kind enough to offer me the bag.

I have to agree with Heatherlite. I had the same call too this week from an SA at SCP about a Tosca birkin. But I was seeking another color. I don't know if her SA was the same as mine...but I don't want to know either.

SAs at Hermes are not the same as SAs in fine jewelry, e.g. Van Cleef or Cartier. Van Cleef and Cartier SAs are hungry for business. I would gladly hand out their names at anytime. Hermes does pride itself on exclusivity and building a relationship with a Hermes SA does go a long way. It's not a status symbol bag for nothing. ;) I do sympathize with those who want to get their hands on a birkin or kelly. Even I am waiting for that perfect bag.
