Giving TIPS to sales in order to get a BIRKIN?

TPF may earn a commission from merchant affiliate
links, including eBay, Amazon, and others

For someone who is trying to initiate herself into the "wonderful world of H," this is discouraging indeed. To those who have had bad experiences at SCP, add another to the list. I felt humiliated when the SA looked me down the length of his nose and told me "I don't think so." These SAs must get such a power trip out of it. . .it makes me so mad.

:( my friend tells me it's a gloomy place to go to. i do hope that as suggested in earlier posts, hermes may actually look into tpf and do something about the kind of service this particular store gives. I mean, granted that they may have few inventories, shouldn't they at least be more encouraging by welcoming you into the brand, perhaps introduce you to other items that may interest you? that's what I dont get. relationship building has to be two way. if they dont have b's and k's then they should at least try to "sell" their other merchandise as well to help you build a portfolio. doesnt make sense to me.
power ttripping is the right word. i do hope you meet a nicer SA that deserves your business.

Hold it you all....

For all we know the OP is just bitter that after spending so much at the Madison store, she still was not given a birkin - so she makes up stories about her friend "tipping" and hope that we report such unlawful behaviour to Hermes.

I suggest this thread be closed, it serves no purpose other than stiring trouble to honest SAs - who really do not earn that much and do try their hardest to please everyone.

has anyone heard of this happening in australia?

No. I think the worst it gets here is aloof service.

I never felt any pressure when I've enquired about Birkins or Kellys at the Sydney store. I have been told simply whether any are available to view or not. When I've put myself on waiting lists, again, just my request details were taken. No 'subtle hints' at all.

Staff were very acommodating when my name did come up. My bag was held until the end of the following weekend for me to come in and view it.

HTH

1)this is theoretically an open forum and 2)no one has had threads closed when people have-- on numerous occasions--said that they were told to buy more in order to "earn" the right to buy a birkin. As such I dont know why anyone would disbelieve OP since clearly the SA's do a variety of things worldwide that seem improper. (again, like lying about stock availability when everyone knows that there are bags and telling people that they need to buy more things.) I have been told to buy other things on more than one occasion and I have seen a lot of crazy stuff so I know that most of these "stories" are true. As for "tipping"--it is certainly done.

I agree with Hermesaholic. We can all choose whether we want to believe the OP. We have to make this decision about just about any thread that anyone starts on this forum. There is no more basis for closing this thread than any other thread.
There are plenty of threads on this forum that discuss stories that are not palatable and not possible to verify with absolute certainty. The last time I read the rules, I didn't see any such requirement for posting.

I've heard stories. I heard of one in Paris as well. People will stand in line, then someone will miraculously have a Birkin in her hands (even though they were at the end of the line) thanks to the wonderful DH...while everyone else goes empty-handed. Sounds like he pulled some crazy strings. I've seen the Birkin too and it is absolutely gorgeous!! It's in someone's blog. Sorry, I cannot post the link. I like the person too much.

In Manhattan, someone is getting Birkins like crazy and posting it on a monthly basis. Again, it's on someone else's blog. One thing they both have in common I noticed, they are crazy rich and both are young (in their 20s).

Sorry to chime in a bit late to the party but I, too, have had good experiences with SCP. I live nowhere near the store but each time I have been in contact with SAs they have been helpful and pleasant. It actually is the only store which right off the bat (without buying anything else) offered me one (one occassion) a Bougainvillea Ostrich Kelly (which sadly I still kick myself for passing on but at time was out of my $ range) and another time a black 35 Birkin GHW (a holy grail for some but I think the SA thought I was nuts when I said "anything but black....no thank you"). Other times they have openly indicated that their stock was low but that is something which happens across stores in general not just with them. I just wanted to mention that I think SCP is not all bad, however, I am not one to say poor service is not possible....I just do not want some potential customers to be deterred from visiting or contacting the store when good experiences can be had too...

thank you for replying and for replying so thoroughly

Hi everyone,

I don't know if anybody esle has posted the similiar topic, but I'm so confused since in order to get Birkin, I spend lots of money and time buying those small scarves and leather goods, but my sales still didn't give me any Birkin or Kelly this year.

But this week, one of my friend got two Birkin (both with good colors) and a Lindy, WITH IN ONE WEEK. I asked she HOW, she said she gave tips to the sales person, like $1000 - $2000 for one Birkin.

She bought those stuffs from New York madison store. Do we need to give our sales TIPS in order to get Birkin? or just in New York.

I'm so confused right now, hope somebody could help me with this question,

Thank you.
honey... could you forward to me the SA's info? cuz i really really wanna get a birkin bag, even I NEED PAY THE TIPS.

well its good to hear that someone had good experience but i can tell you my experience that i have postes in the forum under diff thread but i can tell you that i was humiliated on just asking abouut birkin/kelly what the SA told me was "i just can not walk in and ask or get a birkin i have to build the relationship with a SA" I asked how do i do that and i was told i have to have a buying history and "online buyiong doesnt count you have to buy from this store" I asked how much do i have to spend " it can be anywhere from 10,000.00 to twenty thousand we can not just give you a number but even then i may or may nor get birkin" This is exact conversation so you tell me what should i think. I was furious the way i was treated in that store they have no right to disrespect anyone especially when someone is your client. I was basically told that i can never have birkin as i mentioned that "should i go to europe" i was told "NO as there is so much tourism that they hardly have any birkins in their stores" I was discouraged, humiliated and not treated with respect which is plane and simple wrong. You can walk into a chanel, LV store or Gucci store excellent service in SCP !!!! H store in SCP sucks!!! imo

Really? And this was on a slow weekday? I was there last night. They all looked pretty bored and eager to help.

Did you go on a weekend when it was jammed packed?

Sorry to hear about your experience.

It was a Friday and morning time and there were probably 3-4 customers in the store. the customers were looking around and thier security guard was watching them like a hawk...

that is my exact experience!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually bought 2 scarves first and then ask about birkin/kelly and what you were told was exactly what I was told!! but the SA only said $10k on ready to wear and non leather goods. I was like, "ok, so I need to buy like 30 scarves??" and the SA said, "well, why don't you take a look at the RTW collection?" and I went over to see the clothes and they were like $3000 a piece!!! I mean, I am not going to spend $3000 on a sweater........

^That is strange and nuts indeed. Usually when I look for a bag, they go into their computer to see if they still have inventory and if they do, they will have it shipped to the store.

You should probably report those SAs to corporate. Get their names or something.
