"Coach has been around since 1941. Since that year, thousands of women around the world have been carrying Coach bags for a reason. If you’re just joining us and expressing astonishment, I’d like to ask: where have YOU been? "

Actually, Coach has only been making womens' handbags since about 1962 when Bonnie Cashin started designing for them, but you're pretty spot-on with the rest of your comments.

Everyone needs to find their own style. As long as someone doesn't mock my taste in bags, I won't mock theirs - unless they're carrying a fake.

Couldn't agree more - I've always been a Coach girl. Only got into more premium brands very recently but was surprised to see so much derision about Coach on this forum. I've often looked at 'designer' bags that cost 10 times the price and thought the Coach bags look much better :-)

In the flip side, I'm not a fan of the two most recent collections at all. Bring back the Borough! Lol.

Enough.

I’m tired of people expressing shock and delight at the new merchandise that Coach is putting out now. And I’m both amused and amazed at THEIR surprise when die-hard Coach fanatics like myself express disgust at their condescending viewpoints. Coming to a forum and essentially writing, “Wow! I can’t believe that I now love what used to be such CRAP” is not exactly a compliment. Do I even have to spell that one out? I guess I do.

I love and admire all bags – lots of them – bags from independent mom-and-pop stores up in the White Mountains of New Hampshire to “premiere” designers like Dior. But I’m a Coach girl at heart. My mom introduced me to the company at an early age, as many of our mothers have, and I have a sentimental attachment to the brand. I’ll always carry Coach. Their quality, styles, and colors are fantastic. Their prices, while climbing, are still relatively reasonable, considering what else is out there. I have fun, fantastic relationships with all of my SAs and I’ve been lucky enough to have great customer service whenever there’s been a problem with quality (which is NOT often).

The signature (“siggy”) look is still popular for many of us, but considered out of date for other Coach lovers. That’s up to each woman to decide for herself. Premiere designers, too, by the way, are highly sought after for their blatant use of logos. And p.s., premiere designers are also starting to make bags in China, too. I’m not justifying the horrifyingly minimal pay that these employees receive for their work by any means – I’m just pointing out a sad fact that is not exclusive to Coach. It’s something that needs to be addressed by every designer, and soon.

Calling this company “a starter brand” for those “hopeful fashionistas” wishing to carry something elegant and of good craftsmanship is insulting. Saying that you’re amazed to be toting around a product that costs underneath a certain overinflated price is offensive and pretentious. There are many women who come to this forum dreaming of owning a Coach bag from a boutique one day. The lack of awareness for those less economically fortunate than yourself is simultaneously elitist and – frankly - *****y. The incredulity expressed at such modern Coach styles is laughable. I mean, we Yanks and yokels sure do appreciate your citified sense of fashion and style, but we’ve been getting along just fine these past several years, thanks.

You said it, sister! I'm so tired of people remarking, "Coach is stepping their game up!" or "That's Coach?!" like it's the bottom of the barrel. It NEVER has been, and I think the people saying that are the ones that only recognize the obviously fake siggy's that people used to buy at kiosks at the mall... Coach is not synonymous with this or that; there are SO many collections that it's not as uniform as some brands have been.

Good thread and thanks for this. My first quality bag was a Coach bag, and that was decades ago. Coach will always be special for me. Yes, there have been and always will be hits and misses along the way. Coach is not and never will be the only manufacturer that outsources labor as appalling as that is. I am sure most people on TPF have other products made in China. Love Coach!

CoachCruiser, awesome job at articulating what others have pondered after reading such remarks in a thread dedicated to a brand we love. In the beginning, I was appalled at those types of posts. I now shake my head and even laugh at them. I simply don't understand why one would intentionally click on a thread "dedicated to a specific designer" only to express their disdain for it. There are a number of brands that don't tickle my fancy, but I find it a complete waste of my precious 30 seconds to 5 minutes to enter a thread to solely snub the brand.

I see it as an elitist attitude that will always exist. However, I will continue to carry any brand of any type that I desire without any apologies or explanations to anyone. Why? Glad someone asked! Because I like it, and most importantly, because I paid for it. So, continue to snub my beautiful pebbled oxblood borough or any of my lovely, beautiful Coach bags. Just know I will continue to be unphased and unbothered by it. Plus, I don't care what bag you are carrying, if you lack tact and good character, carrying the "it" bag is well..

But, this is a forum and all are welcome to post wherever they choose. Keep calm and Coach on, Coachies!

Excellent post and very well thought out. You are absolutely right! While I can't say I am a fan of the siggy bags per se, as I am more of an "under the radar" type of girl, you can't deny the quality of Coach.
At one time I used to carry only Louis Vuitton --- either their Nomade line or all vachetta bags at ridiculous price points. I then discovered vintage Coach--particularly the ones made in NYC and I was hooked. The old leather is absolutely amazing and holds up for decades getting better and better each time it is worn. A wonderfully patinaed british tan glove tanned leather NYC bag blows away the Nomade line for a fraction of the price.
Again, excellent post. Thanks for writing it!

+ a cool million! 👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌👍👍👍

This was a well thought out post, thank you! I've been on another luxury site lately and the amount of ladies lamenting the "quality" issues is saddening. But it's there nonetheless.
My sister and I were talking today how the quality (overall) of Coach bags has stood the test of time. They're classic bags that most women love to own.
My favorite Coach is a Stewardess bag that I saw with my dd while shopping in a thrift store. I admired it but didn't buy it.....she told my dh hubby about it and they went back and bought the bag for me for my birthday.
The sentiment is awesome, love the quality of a vintage Stewardess bag, and the fact that she thought I would love it (which of course I do!).
I recently bought her a cute bag at a Coach outlet that she'll probably have for years to come.....she's 14yo. She loves Coach, as do I!
