I can't wait to get the KMM & Co Mini to compare with my Portland Leather Goods Mini - I know of one difference already - KMM is made from one piece of leather, and PLG is not... Also, KMM & Co is made in Georgia USA and Portland Leather Goods is made in Mexico.

Another lovely atelier would be Graziat Taipei. I’m working on a bespoke Himalayan croc tote with the owner; they usually specialize in shoes which you would probably notice on their Instagram page. Of course I ordered a matching pair of shoes so that’s my current small atelier commission.

Added a photo of a bag he made for another client.DC53B1CC-7E63-4C76-A917-ED0AD4D5AAF8.jpeg
He quite likes sharp angles so that’s sort of his signature style which is quite nice and different.

Please post a picture of the bag and shoes when they arrive.

I guess small companies who make $ leather goods are no different from $$$$$ leather goods, yes?

:whut:
Well, I had it in my mind that we would be discussing … relatively inexpensive bags that I could afford? I don’t know. Obviously unable to speak (or write, rather) my native language of English today.

Going from Portland Leather Goods bags to Hermes-quality bags in the same thread hurts my brain.

I think the main difference with dealing with small ateliers is that for the most part you are dealing directly with the owner.

You can send them photos of what you carry every day and they will add pockets of exactly the size required to carry the items.

As for pricing, there’s real value because an exotic leather bag will be less expensive than a regular leather one by let’s say H and by a wide margin. There’s no celebrities or fancy world wide store network to support either.

The main issue with this type of purchase is production time… not everyone has the patience for it. I started the project with Graziat months ago and we will haven’t even started production (still working on all the design elements). Custom patina, custom edge paint, etc… everything is possible but that also means a slower production timeline!

Fount. Polene. I'm really excited for my first bag from Go Forth Goods (currently being made); and want to get their Jane duffle, when the right color (aka purple) comes along.
Can I ask which bag they're making for you? I hope you post some pics when you get it! I have the GFG Jane in black and I love it! Also have the Sarah but might reorder that one sometime to get one with an external pocket (that option wasn't available when I purchased mine). I also want another Jane; I'm hoping their next batch of limited colors will include something I like (preferably in bison leather!).

I think I saw in another thread that you got a big (military style?) leather travel bag and it looked like it had GFG handle and hardware style. Is it GFG and do you like it?

Here is my Oxblood from Go Forth Goods .
Ooh I'm thinking about the deluxe mini tote in either oxblood or my default, black. Is the oxblood more red or more brown? I know their oxblood leather is a "stiff" leather rather than smooshy; do you think an oxblood mini tote could be crammed into a backpack or suitcase for a flight, or would that make it look "ruined"? Thanks for any insight you can share!

Yep, bags have to be created. I’m looking at the end of June for mine. Which is a cakewalk compared to yours!

ETA: More like the middle of July, if I understand their site correctly. :)

Yes. The Gunnar bag by GFG. I will post pics when it arrives. Nice to hear you love your Jane. It seems like a wonderful style.

I really didn't specify as I like to learn about all the leather makers. I will however only purchase things in my price range.

The oxblood is more red than brown. I would probably not put mine in a bigger bag for fear of scratching it. I would go with a pebbled leather or the saddle that is more pliable .
