Avatar pics are small, but if your clutch is a Flat Clutch model and strapless then it would be F/W '03 with Pewter Hardware, and if its got a Handle attached it's from S/S '04 with the same hardware. The "Makeup" Clutch style came out in S/S '04 as well.

There are differences in leather from season to season or year to year, but there's also individual hide differences within the seasons and years that seem like throw-backs & fast-forwards of those season/year trends. Colors definitely repeat, even when they aren't exact copies.

The old leather is night and day to the new stuff. The oldies are better in my opinion after handling over 5,000 luxury designer brand bags. The earliest leather (season 1 & 2) didn't have the problems of fading, color shifting, etc. plus they were handcrafted if not handmade. They are amazing bags, and everyone I've seen touch one was impressed.

I have a super rare (thanks to a sweet PFer) 2001 Le Dix "Village" bag that has THE SOFTEST Smooth season 1 & 2 leather that's out-of-this-world soft! Softer than anything I've ever touched on Earth, softer than a baby's bottom, softer than vintage Hermes silk. It's dark chocolate brown, smooth calfskin or lambskin, and is a style I've only seen on a celebrity shot and since no one knows the real name, my hubby named it the "Village" as it may be a prototype "City" bag.

Here's the celeb shot with an '01 Chocolate "Village" Flat Brass Moto-Bag:

Of course.....how could I overlook the handle. I let the leather influence me. Duh. Yes, it's 03.
But I have an observation about the no-fading issues of 01 and 02. Couldn't one attribute that designation incorrectly as most of the bags produced during those years were mainly black or shades of brown from chocolate to caramel which didn't fade in any subsequent years either? ( with 09 being the exception) Or am I wrong about that? I know my 03 bags have no fading issues. We don't really have blues, greens, purples or really vivid colors from 01-02 to test the fading issue. Having said that, I bow to the superior knowledge and experience of our resident guru.

Thanks babe. It's 03 light caramel weekender snuggling with 03 or 04 (who can tell?) black clutch.

Actually I would guess it's s/s 04 because it is ultra velvety soft and smooth. 03 would be thicker and more "textural". See, I can't stop discussing the nuances of oldies.

They are just heavenly together:loveeyes::hbeat:

It is impossible to stop talking about the nuances of the oldies iMO! Especially the leather nuances:graucho:

Is it wrong of me to want to hunt this bag done and cuddle it? I would love to just be able to see one in real life:D

Sadly for my wallet - it happened. J/K, it's been over a decade to acquire all of these. I keep saying I'm going to "thin the heard", but every time I get ready to - I realized I'd never find X again - in that condition - at that price, etc. etc. So I end up with backups for my backups. I do use them everyday though, year after year after year. So it's worth it to me.

It is so true you can't find your gems again! But, if you ever decide to thin I'll be waiting:graucho::laugh:

Thank you all for your patience. I have just completed the next page in Balenciaga Motorcycle Bag History. Please enjoy and visit it online too:
http://www.realdealcollection.com/bal_bags_01-02.html

Interior branded with a single-sided leather tag gold stamped "Le Dix Balenciaga Paris" with matching color or black linings, 24"-27" strap (if included), but no mirror.

Thank you SO MUCH for this lovely trip down the road with old and rare bags :flowers::flowers::flowers:

I wonder something - I have two le dix FBF in caribou - one with strap and one without. I've been moaning over this, but from what I read it might never has had one, is that correct understood ??.
