Okay, finally I think I have the formatting down. Photoshop docs ready to be filled with more historical data. I love making the eye candy pieces...will be looking for more modeling shots with Flat Brass & Pewter Hardware bags.

Please check out the latest version, I've including all the styles, colors, leather types for the early prototype bags in 2001 and through 2002. Let me know what you all think, and feel free to post photos of your Le Dix & early Balenciaga's, we all love to see them!

Have you guys seen this bag before?

Nice Corey!

In fact i have been "stalking" your site and noticed the updated version few days back !!! :graucho:

U are so great in finding those older models which i have not even seen before! I really like the "village" but i don't think i ever seen it on sale.

It is so nice that you allow sharing & posting of our Le Dix & early Balenciaga's photos here. I did try to post mine over at the "2001-2004 Oldies Club" & "Le Dix Club", but they were both "dead" and can't post anymore. Another TPF member & I were contemplating if we should start a new thread. But looks like we can just do it here :D

Thank you so much !!! :D

Corey....this is great. I will go to your site and check out the rest.
My fantasy is that you will start a thread here and go through the years individually. All the stuff you knew/ did in 03 and how you describe that leather , then go to 04 and on through the decade ending with 09.
I have opinions and theories for 03-05 leather....like 07 leather was a throwback to 03 in that it is thicker, puffy and distressed.....that 03 olive brown is the precursor for 07 vert fonce and 03 red is the model for 05 rogue theater and that 04 is the softest of those years, and 05 the silkiest.
What do you think?

I think you are 100% right about the colors being a precursor and another one I always think of is Bleu Mineral 2013 being a throwback to Bleu Roi 06 (Even though 06 wasn't the best year for leather I was in LOVE with the colors:) HOWEVER...I die a little more each time I miss out on an Eggplant ANYTHING!! I've always wanted one and have always been a day late and a dollar short! Now that I'm all OVER the place my wish list is too big for a signature!!

I never knew about the AtelierNaff site. Yes, you could definitely do a blog and also we could start a thread here and maybe they would turn it into a stickie.....something like " Balenciaga History". But I haven't visited Corey's real deal collections site recently and maybe this is already a blog there?

AtelNaff was just TDF and a wealth of info provided by LP. I miss the site so much and I remember drooling over her stack of Day Bags!! Now that Corey has such a fantastic venue for us...she has paved the way for me, at least and some others either revisiting bbags or just beginning with the oldies!!

Corey, I LOVE this......I've been away for the B forum for a bit. But, this is the stuff I hunger for..the oldies, history etc! Thank you!

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! This post of your got me so excited I can't sit down. I love when you share your Oldie info Maxxout!:yahoo:

Yes, CeeJay! Great idea:graucho:

yes, please:graucho:

GREAT!;)

I'm right with you GG!! Took a step back from the B- Forum for a little bit and was bitten by the Bal Moto Bug (yep- that bug is deadly) only to FINALLY begin the REAL OLDIE FB Hunt!! We can be PICs as I, too, am so excited after Corey's thread that I am like a kid in a candy store overwhelmed and SO EXCITED!!! However, now I have a closet filled with Leather Jackets (I live in FL:laugh:) and the Bbags are starting to take over again...DH is starting to look at me a little funny!! haha

I VERY much missed the B Forum:) Everyone here was always so fantastic!! With that, it's lovely to see so many of you! You may not remember me, but I remember all the ladies from 06-08 since I really started collecting and helping others get their BBags where they weren't able to be purchased. Nice to be back!

Sadly for my wallet - it happened. J/K, it's been over a decade to acquire all of these. I keep saying I'm going to "thin the heard", but every time I get ready to - I realized I'd never find X again - in that condition - at that price, etc. etc. So I end up with backups for my backups. I do use them everyday though, year after year after year. So it's worth it to me.

Your collection sounds TDF!! I can't wait until you someday post pics of them...including the backups for your backups!!! SO jelly!! Wish I had some backups for backups!! :D However, I keep telling myself that I will be thinning out my BalMoto collection and that hasn't happened yet either!!! So I fully get it and think it's FANTASTIC!

Hello oldies lovers here!!!

I have questions on Monk Leather. Since these thread is for the "First Decade", and Monk Leather was used. I hope to seek some help & opinion here.

I don't know what is Monk Leather, have never seen or touch one yet. I have came across a Monk Leather Besace which im considering.

Im from SE Asia & the weather here is 365 humid! Suede is a no no here. Hard to maintain & will mould easily. Would appreciate someone kindly tell me more about Monk Leather. Can it "survive" in such tropical country? Etc .....

Thank you in advance

^ I would describe "monk" leather as having a waxed finish that's rubbed to the point of starting to suede the surface. It's somewhat porous, yet due to the irregular distressing and top coating, it's easy to wear and looks even better after lots of use. Monk leather is in between leather and suede, but not really either of them, it's a unique finish from my experience.

Hi Corey!

Thanks for the explanation. Is the maintenance the same as suede? Can we apply conditioner on it? Do you think it's good for tropical weather then?

I haven't conditioned any monk leather bags and don't think they need it as the distressing is part of the look and feel of that leather. The closest comparison I can think of is the '11 Milkyway Veau bags which were done in the Papier line.

Suede products are likely more appropriate than finished leather ones, but I would just leave the bag alone to avoid creating spots or a change in the nearly-napped finish.

For tropical weather, I would want the bag to have a strap so I didn't have to hold the handles all the time. Sweaty hands can be dealt with holding a paper towel or napkin over the handles, that's what I did in Las Vegas, I couldn't directly touch my bags it was so hot and humid in August there.

Thanks so much Corey for the detailed info & tips on Monk. Really appreciate!

Guess it's me to make the decision :p

Very interesting. I'm also a long time fan. My research tells me the design was inspired by actual vintage motorcycle wear/luggage, hence the name. I'm not surprised people asked if it was vintage when they first came out.

You were bitten by the Moto jacket bug! I've heard once bitten never the same! I can't catch that bug until after some health issues that added too much extra weight to me;(!!!!

The most wonderful people are here in the Balenciaga forum!!! That and the fantastic, amazing, jaw dropping bags always bring me back for more...

Well, im sure everyone "stalking" this thread is constantly finding oldies

I have just received my #1 Holy Grail Bag...the one that started my handbag obsession back in 2001. It looks just like the ones given to the models, editors and friends of NG.

It feels like heaven in a handbag, the absolute softest buttery leather, and although it took 14 years for me to find THE ONE for me, I'm over the moon :cloud9: and can say my Balenciaga collection is officially complete!

Here's a pic we just put on instagram:

The Le Dix Balenicaga Paris paper cards tell me more about the Smooth leather that was used in 2001 & early 2002, it's Nappa leather!!! I will update the history pages under Balenciaga @ RDC. Plus I have been developing a theory about the earliest bags (the first 25 produced for the girls) and will share if confirmed.
