Fendi peekaboo thoughts?

Besides the 3 mentioned earlier, I have the Chanel WOC and medium Gabrielle medium, a Loewe small Gate, a really old Gucci soho Disco and my very first luxury bag the Balenciaga medium City. Def a small collection compared to those youtubers like you said. I try to stick to 1-2 bags a year rule so that I force myself to research and shop mindfully. So far I’m happy with all of the bags except the medium Gabrielle
Those sound beautiful! I was looking at the Gabrielle. Saw it in so black. The medium is just enough and I think the large would suit me better. What do u not like about it? Do u have a one in one out policy? What made u decide on the medium flap instead of jumbo?

The Gabrielle medium has deep horizontal creases on the leather on both sides of the bag and it bothers me but I still wear it anyway lol. I knew about the crease problem before buying the bag too so this one is kind of on me; I was on the fence but when I went to Paris and didn’t successfully get an Hermes offer, I went to Chanel and got the Gabrielle so I could go home with something. I don’t really sell my bags out of laziness and also sentimental values, so I usually just give away to family members. For the flap, I decided on the medium/large because it was my first Chanel and wanted the most classic style and size. I do admit that this size is not the most practical and doesn’t fit a lot, and I think that was part of the reason when getting the Gabrielle, I went for a larger size even though the Gabrielle small is a lot more popular

I sold my mini peekaboo for two main reasons.

the bag will tip over when I’m driving, when it’s in the passenger seat, as the weight of my iPhonein the front compartment will tip it. So I always had to mindfully place it so the phone was against the seat back. It is a peeve for me when bags that are supposed to stand up, don’t.

the 2 compartments were a bit narrow to get into. Especially the back compartment, when I am wearing it crossbody. I don’t wear jewelry, but it would definitely scratch on the metal bar if you were to be constantly taking stuff out of the compartments. Also, I did not like the “pinched” look when the turn locks were closed. I liked to keep them open but then again there was the metal clinking sound.

And finally, I didn’t like that the strap attached directly to the handles. It made the strap have a tilt to it, like it was flat near the clips and then it would curve to fit the shoulder. Don’t know why it bothered me but it did. I don’t like twisted straps and I was always making sure it wasn’t twisted when I put it on, but it was a bit difficult because it’s not flat to begin with.

all that said, I would consider the x-lite because there is no metal bar, no divided compartment to create narrow access, and is a bigger bag which solves the tipping issue. Strap Still clips to the handle though. But it’s a wide canvas strap so probably not as likely to twist.

I just sold my puzzle. It’s a beautiful bag and unique but I felt a bit less elegant and mature than the peekaboo. I’m trying to revamp my style a bit and the puzzle to me is more of a 20s-30s bag and I’m in my 40s now. You can’t beat Loewe leather though. Such high quality.

I felt the same way about puzzle, it feels like a bag for someone younger, I'm 50. But I have a daughter, can always give to her. I think I will eventually get both, because I will always be thinking about it, but preloved. I like the design of both bags, just so different and unique.

I am returning the peekaboo to Fashionphile. It’s beautiful but wow so heavy. I felt it was heavier than the Kelly! Just felt so bulky. I don’t know what it is about the Kelly but it’s a true classic. I also love my medium Chanel flap even though I am larger and thought would be too tiny on me- it’s light enough and classic and the one shoulder works well.

I purchased an Hermes Kelly bag first, but sold it after a couple of years. The flap closure was an issue.....I have two fendi peekaboos. I prefer them to the HKB because they are easy in and out bags for transitions. They are very similar to me besides the flap of the Kelly bag which is a con in my opinion. The kelly bag is a very elegant bag, though.

I wish the fendi worked for me. The metal plate is too much. I don’t know if the lite versions are better. The peekaboos are great because they are modern but also so elegant and less of a statement bag than the hk

I have one in size medium and see the resemblance to Kelly, mostly in the shape and the fact that it’s got the top handle with strap, and maybe even the twist opening. I find it heavier than my Kelly 28 probably due to the divider and a slightly more hardware. Mine is calfskin and it slouches more than my Kelly Epsom leather, but I feel like that’s part of the look so you can peek into the divider. The two things that occasionally bug me is 1) the buckle in the middle tends to get in my way and knock against my hand when I reach in for things. 2) the buckle gets more metal to metal rubbing compared to the Kelly, so I see some tarnish lines on mine. It’s not visible when closed but I usually wear the front flap open

Overall its a great bag and the craftsmanship is good. It’s similar to Kelly but more casual. Though now that I have a Kelly I def feel like this one now a bit redundant even though they are still different bags. If I had the Kelly first I probably wouldn’t have bought the Peekaboo. Hope this helps.

Thank you for this side-by-side photo. They are both beautiful bags! I have a similar Peekaboo like in the photo (earlier style). I see the similarities and I get why they are often compared with each other. But it's also very nice that they are quite distinct, and that the Peekaboo is different enough so that it does not look like a Kelly dupe. I am not sure if I am making sense. Haha. In any case, looking at the photo, it makes me appreciate my Peekaboo so much more. It does have its cons, but it's just so gorgeous and classic and classy!

Yes! Well said! Like you, I definitely appreciate the difference. I often carry the Peekaboo for work and the divider in the middle makes is very functional, it also gives the bag the ability to carry with the flaps open which is something the Kelly cannot do. Plus the peekaboo somehow always fly under the radar which is another bonus if you want to be discreet

True! And it's great that you have them in different colors! Your Kelly (the size, color, etc) is to die for, btw :-)

Ditto! This is why I have not bought one. I think I will wait until the bag goes through more changes. I like the Lite version, but it’s still a bit big, and it doesn’t come in a color combination I like. I do love the wide stripe nubuck lining offered on Fendi.com. For now I will enjoy using my Hermès Kellys.

I also wish, for the x-lite, that it would be released in a slightly smaller (but not too small) size. Along with more color choices with palladium hardware. Really not a fan of the gold hardware all of the x-lites seem to have.

Which size did you find heavy and return?

I have been a Peekaboo fan since 2010 and have settled on the medium as my ideal size. I currently own several, including two minis (one a custom order) and a couple of x-lites, and would be hard pressed to decide which of them to part with (fortunately don't have to make such a decision). Early on I had two in the large size -- too big -- like carrying a suitcase. Interesting that you find the Peekaboo to be "heavy" - with the medium size that has not been my experience, particularly when I compare to Birkin 35 which IMO is heavy even when empty. For me too there is something about Peekaboo that conjures the Kelly.
