That someone judges you simply for a bag you are carrying says more about hem than it does you. She may not spend more than $75 for a bag, but I am sure there is some non-essential item/s she overspends on. For example, I would never spend more than $5-8 for eyeshadow or lipstick, but even women who have no money blow $40-50 on a “limited edition collab palette” or $30-40 for a Kylie “lip kit.” Or get regular mani/pedis at $50-60. What’s it to me? I will buy drugstore makeup, do my own nails and then can afford a pre-loved LV.

SO very true! I agree, and everyone attributes value very differently. You're right about my mom too—purses may not be her thing, but her hair appointments and mani/pedis are the ways she treats herself. My mom just has a blind spot between equating how she treats herself versus how I treat myself.

Side note: Love your screen name! My goodness this month has been four years already. When I heard about Bowie over the radio in 2016, I'll never forget parking at a gas station on the way to MCO (Schiphol and Helsinki-bound) to just ugly cry. My husband was in the passenger seat and he completely understood. Bowie and his music meant so much to me since I was a little kid that I couldn't fathom what a post-Bowie era would even look like.

Thanks. I remember hearing Bowie in 1976 when I was 5, “Rebel Rebel” blaring from the speakers in my aunt’s 69 Camaro RS. I have loved him ever since. I woke up the morning of my 45th birthday to the news he had died the night before. There will never be another like him. Ever.

So many people seem to have this blind spot...

Only my DH and my children know about my collection. My mom and dad have seen only a few of my bags, and my friends and other family members only see non premier branded bags.
Sometimes I do use premier bags that are under the radar and hard to recognize bags around other family members and friends.
Life is too short, and I don't want ANY drama whatsoever.

Agree!
I have a family member who would not understand dropping 4K on a bag, but this family member buys electronics on a whim that may cost 2-3K, and multiples of them, and they are basically duplicates.

This is very educational. I do hide my bags. I slip every once in a while when going out with friends and forget to change out of my LV or YSL into a Longchamp or Coach. I get them staring at me. YOU can afford THAT? But you know what? Screw them. Even if I tell them I collect bags or I just love bags, they look at me sideways. They don't get it. I can't expect someone who collets Mickey Mouse crap to understand why spending 2K on a bag is normal for me. So you know what? I'm just going to use whatever bag I feel like. Thanks all!
Love and agree with all of what you said, except:
Mickey Mouse stuff = gold!!!:lol::lol::lol::lol:
Peanuts stuff = gold too!
But I get what you're saying.

As for family, I would try to “hide” stuff from one of my younger sisters. I love her more than anything but she’s a known thief and drug addict. I just don’t trust her around a lot of my things. I went as far as hiding/lying about medication because I was in pain and didn’t want it to go missing.
I have a closet with a good lock. It gives me a peace of mind when I have guests and family over, although that hasn't happened a lot since Covid.

In another similar thread, someone suggested asking "why do you ask" when a persons asks how much her bag costs. Sends a pretty clear message that the person crossed the line of propriety.

My mother raised us not "to pass personal remarks." In other words, mind your own business and don't possibly embarrass someone.

Totally agree-And if you say dance, I'll dance with you, and if you say run, I'll fly..if you should fall, into my arms, I'll tremble like a flowerxx

Let's Dance!xxx

I'm sorry for Anyone who wasn't a teenager during the 1980's!

I don't have any problem wearing my nice handbags. I don't wear LV, Chanel, Hermes, etc. Most of the bagsI carry are Chloe, vintage Marc Jacobs, Valentino or Jimmy Choo. I don't think most are immediately recognizable to the average person as being expensive. My Chloe Marcies are what get recognized the most, but I haven't had any snarky remarks, just admiration. I just recently retired, but I did have an employee comment one of my Marcies - she was admiring it and told me that it looked like it cost a lot!

What I probably wouldn't want is for any of my friends or acquaintances to see my entire bag collection inside of my closet. Seeing them all together would probably make them faint and think I am nuts. I have a lot of bags. I know that would get them talking. I have to remember to keep them all out!

You might be surprised !

Although they may not have high end bags, lots of women love bags-not just us, even my 18 year old niece and 76 year old mum do, they might have lots of inexpensive bags!xx
