My family and friends don't know what I spend on a bag because they aren't into handbags. Sometimes a friend will ask me who the designer is, but I don't mention the price unless I'm asked and want to tell the person.

yesss
my parents think i spend way too much money on "stupid" things they say..
just spent more than $1,000 in less than a week on make up, food, clothes, upgraded my iphone to a iphone 3g, gifts for my family, and bought a plane ticket for my boyfriend!
opps
but its my money i could use it when i want too right?

thinking about it..i need more clothes

My purse addiction is kind of new. I just started buying bags in October. I've two Dooney's and on Chanel. I carry the Dooney and no one has really ever asked me about. I admire the Chanel from my closet. I'm afraid I'll damage it if I carry it to school. My hubby doesn't care what I buy as long as it makes me happy. My parents would probably die of shock if they saw the sticker price from the Chanel bag. But I'm going to soften them up. For Christmas I got my mother a Dooney and a Coach bag. I figure she will warm up to bags if she has them to.

Hi, guys I am new to this forum and feel like I discovered the new world here. What do you do when you buy something and others try to guilt you because they pretty much are used to the bargain or family stores? My friends asked me today if I was having a mid life crisis in my 20's when I told her the sale price of a recent purchase....Also whats the most you would spend on a bag? How often do you buy? Do you significant other get mad? I have to hide receipts:crybaby:

oh i know how you feel!! I've had to hide receipts from my parents as they will not be happy knowing i spend the amount i do.. its gotten better though since i have educated my mum on the bags so she appreciates luxury alot more. My boy doesnt mind as he spends just as much on his car.. but its usually friends who dont understand.. they look at the bag in awe.. and make some comment like "omg i would never spend that much on a bag" and then kind of look at me like im crazy because they just dont appreciate handbags so all they see is another piece of leather..

That's why I divorced my ex. Had to hide bags. (Just kidding!). I do have some family members (Mom) that are like that. I just don't wear any new LVs around her. Problem solved. My ex was so bad that he got upset if I bought decent mascara. Said there was mascara at Walmart for $2.00!

I don't tell people what I paid for a bag. If they ask, I tell them I got it on an incredible sale, which is true.

People shop for all kinds of reasons. As long as you can afford what you are buying without running up credit card debt, then you have nothing to worry about. If you are broke because of your shopping, then you have a problem. It is different when you are married because then your spending affects another person. It isn't fair for one person's income to go toward household expenses while the other person's goes towards their toys/hobbies. Which isn't to say you don't deserve some nice things when you are married, just don't go overboard.

I've managed to keep the bag thing under control and on the down low it's the shoes that will have me living in my car someday but after 5 years of obsession I"ve finally beaten my friends and family down and now they just roll their eyes and sigh when I wax poetic or sport a new bag or pair of Vog's.

It's hard to be the only true accessory whore amongst all your friends.

well I dont hide reciepts - but If my mom asks what item has cost I do .. well deduct like 25-40% off the real price. In my head there is a currency called "mom euros" as much as there is a "real world euros". Really infantile, and totally unessesary as I am an adult of 33

No lol. Most of my friends, including my boyfriend, do not support my love of handbags. They think I spend too much time looking at them and too much money buying them. My mom is sort of supportive, just because she's a girl and she loves nice things here and there too. However, she's got good self-control, so she thinks I do tend to be a little......excessive. Or should I say, obsessive?
