Fake diamonds -- different than fake purses?

My dh and I have been discussing upgrading my 1/2 carat solitaire. I purchased a 1 carat cz to get an idea of how it would fit in my solitaire wrap. I don't have anything against simulants, especially with the controversy surrounding diamonds, however there is something off with the cz. It sparkles, its a nice color but if I turn my hand a certain way, it looks glassy. I do think it looks better than diamonds of poor clarity but not as good as a nice clarity real deal.

Thats a great idea. You can get a feel of the size difference and make sure you are comfortable with it.

I don't have anything against people wearing fake jewelry as long as they're not claiming it as the real deal. It's more about staying true to yourself. It's fine to buy fake studs just coz you want a little sparkle on your ears or get a simple set of costume jewelry that u wear for travel. I just can't stand posers who wear big a$$ pieces that are fake and fake bags in their hands.

From the responses on here, I understand why some people do 'front' (not the word I would have chosen, but others have) and wear CZs or 'fake diamonds'. Nobody wants to feel snubbed or like they're less than someone else simply because they can't afford -- or choose not to wear -- real diamonds (or purses, for that matter!).

Honestly, I don't really care if someone's diamonds are real or not. If you can afford what you're wearing, and are wearing it well, who am I to turn my nose up at it?

i dislike it when people pretend like their fake ANYTHING is real....like if they pretend their 20 ctw earrings are real....when they obviously are not!

Other then that, i don't care if you wear fake diamonds -- but i do NOT like it when people buy "inspired" jewelry (ie tiffanys engagement rings), imho that is the same as buying an "inspired" bag!!!

right on!

It is only similar if the design of the jewelry is what is copied. Remember, some fakes are made out of leather! If a ring is stamped Tiffany but it is a fake, then it's the same as a fake bag. I heard something that I remembered- If it sleets outside there is ice. If you put water in an ice tray and freeze it is is ice, too. Why is one better than the other? Keep in mind, if the diamond miners would make all teh diamonds available to the public, they would be nearly worthless! It's the contrl on the quantitiy that is made available that gives them their value.

A friend of mine chose to have her engagement ring set with a simulated diamond instead of the real thing, and instead spent the $10,000 it would've cost on her honeymoon and new house. It's a personal choice and one that doesn't affect anyone else profoundly.

This is my mindset too! I like sparkly things, but I think diamonds are not 'worth it' due to inflated prices, deceptive advertising and history of violence. I'd much rather have that money spent on a vacation, house or car... or more bags.......

I would never carry a fake handbag, but a 'fake' diamond (simulated, CZ) isn't a big deal to me, as long as it's not trying to pass itself off as a brand name.

Too true.

Disclaimer: honestly just curious to hear your thoughts, am not flaming anyone for their personal choices.

I wonder: how exactly are fake diamonds, especially fake diamond rings or diamond rivera necklaces or tennis bracelets, which are less ubiquitous than diamond ear studs, so different from fake purses?

Aren't many women who carry fake purses and the women who wear fake diamonds doing so for the same reason -- to achieve some kind of look that in their minds is classy and desirable?

I'm honestly interested to hear your thoughts. For some reason, in my mind, fake purses are so much more unseemly than fake diamonds, but I can't pinpoint why exactly. Are they really just the same sort of thing?

Discuss! Would love to hear your thoughts.

And P.S. I am the owner of a fake pair of CZ studs!

I don't think we could just generalize. There are a whole bunch of different reasons why someone would wear a CZ. I remember reading in a thread about how someone doesn't want to wear their 100K diamond center stone out and had a replacement stone. I have nothing against that. And there are those people that do it to achieve that look. So, people have different motives.

I think there's a difference between wearing a fake diamond and a fake purse. Fake purses are obviously a crime, and i don't think having a fake diamond goes against the law...
However, i think they both have the same intentions overall, to replace the real thing.
Anyways, having a fake diamond is just more hard to tell than having a fake purse.

I guess i have a question of my own. Is having a copy of a 'design' (for an e-ring) from let say, Tiffany's or Cartier, owning a fake? Probably not...right? Just as long as it doesn't have the inscription of Tiffany & Co. or Cartier on the inside?

as long as it's not stamped it's not a counterfeit - just like bags I would think.
Like on bags, they're considered replicas if they're copied but w/o the trademarks.

i think they're different. i would never buy a fake bag, but i've worn false diamond studs before and i don't see anything really wrong with it because it isn't hurting anything. the money from selling fakes is used for a lot of horrible stuff. i love real diamonds but if i'm running around or think i'm going to lose one, then i put on false diamond earrings.

i personally luuuuurve diamonds (i only own a pair of .5 carat studs and my e-ring) and prob wont wear CZs but i have no problemo with others wearing anything that makes them happy. If you're trying to pass them off as diamonds that is kind of sad, but hey, its not affecting me, so go ahead.
