Fake diamonds -- different than fake purses?

Exactly what I was going to write. A counterfeit jewelry maker using CZ's in a fake Tiffany & Co. piece would be comparable to a fake Chanel or LV (etc...). An original CZ piece wouldn't be comparable to a fake bag at all.

I personally don't wear CZ's, but for the women that can't afford the real thing, I see nothing wrong with it. If they're purchased legitimately and not made by the hands of (essentially) a child slave, it's definitely not comparable to fake purses.

I agree Mississa:yes:

I prefer wearing authentic jewelry, whether it be diamonds, gold, sapphires or what have you. I enjoy the beauty, artistry and workmanship that is goes into designing and crafting fine jewelry. CZs are diamond simulants. That is a euphemism for not authentic or real. There, I have avoided using the "f" word:sweatdrop:

Sometimes I think we are kidding ourselves as to how high our standards are. Most things in our consumer world are copied from something. We may not be aware of the sourse, but we are probably sitting on copy chairs or couches etc.

Its nice to say I only wear real diamonds like its a high standard. But someone in the architecture industry might have the same standard in his home and make others look like try hards????

Same with art, food , cars etc. Every part of our lives has a `high end` aspect to it.

Jewellery and bags is just one tiny area that we have to make decisions about. For me the rules change according to my whim, needs, budget and current obsession!!!!!

A friend of mine chose to have her engagement ring set with a simulated diamond instead of the real thing, and instead spent the $10,000 it would've cost on her honeymoon and new house. It's a personal choice and one that doesn't affect anyone else profoundly.

I think your friend sounds pretty smart!!!!!

Fwiw, a friend and I are getting CZ earrings made up by a jeweller as a fun project. Both of us own diamonds and can well afford to buy what we are buying in the real thing. But we are happy to spend a very small amount on something we think will look very real in real life. To us its a bit of fun.

Sometimes I wear a CZ ring (not often)

I got this ring with a real diamond. I wanted to do something different with it. So I took the diamond out. I did not want to just have an empty setting. So I put a CZ in it. So when I go to questionable places I just wear this one.

Here is what I did with the diamond.

well i never thought of cz's to be fake... saying that is like saying sworvaski is fake too... ive never really thought of it this way but here in the middle east, most gold is made with czs in different colors and i dont consider it as fake cause in no way does it resemble a real diamond.. theres no shine to it and its just really obvious. im not sure if this is because here its a "gold" culture so people know the difference of the cz n diamonds in terms of appearance n value..

and just to let u guys know..most of the diamonds we buy, on watches, the j12 or whatever is diamond dust.. its the leftovers from the diamonds that the were previously carving, its the same with most diamonds unless its a specially cut one and thats when the color, cut, shape n clarity of the diamond would give it its value..diamond dust is valueless in resell.

^^^I collect Swarovski crystal. It doesn't mimic being another gemstone. I also have a watch with a diamond bezel. The diamonds are full cut and too large to be considered diamond dust. I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.

^^ Haha oh yeah, kk. Their sculptures look nothing like diamond, well they do but a diamond couldn't be cut into that shape so you would never mistake them for one lol. I love their sculptures btw, they are so sparkly!

Swarovski has their line of gems which is CZ cut to diamond standards. On their site they are called Enlightened CZ; I believe they were originally called Signity. I have some loose Signity stones. I would not have considered Swarovski made "fakes" either, their CZs are simply lab creations to me.

As for the diamond dust, smaller diamonds used as "filler" in jewelry is pave. Is this what you're referring to?

Littlesharon is right. There are high-end versions of EVERYTHING, from furniture to architecture to jewelry to clothing to shoes and bags. Most of us do not buy designer/authentic everything; we all make choices. There are threads to that effect in the fashion subforum and many people have no problem combining lower-end clothing with high-end bags.

It is all a personal choice as far as I am concerned. I won't buy something that falsely carries a designer's name (copyright infringement), but I don't buy high-end everything. A diamond is clear and sparkly and was more or less arbitrarily chosen to be valuable. There are other clear and sparkly things for those who don't buy into the idea that diamonds have inherent value, or for those who choose to spend their money elsewhere. I think that is a valid choice, and I have no issue with Moissanite, CZs, crystal or white topaz.
