Experience with Chanel refurbishing/repair

I recently purchased a preloved gorgeous 21P caramel extra mini CCH. The bag is in otherwise excellent condition with hardly any signs of use. When I received it, I noticed slight discoloration/tarnishing on the turnlock. Zeko told me it is most likely from humidity, which makes sense because I bought the bag from a seller in Thailand and most of the hardware protective stickers were still intact. She suggested I take the bag to Chanel to replace the turnlock. This is my first preloved purchase so I'm uncertain how to go about requesting for a repair. Does Chanel ask for proof of purchase or do I just tell them it was received as a gift? Also, do they send all hardware repairs to Paris? I'm scared they will end up losing my bag :-s

Hi guys

I have some story to share , and would really use some suggestions and help here .

I sent my bag to my local boutique trying to repair the turn knob of my Chanel classic flap in GHW , as the hardware get tarnished even though only had couple uses of the bag . Mine is was the gold matt which I loved .

It’s over 10 yrs so they will charge me for about $100 for the repair which I accepted . And the SA even told me I don’t need to replace the CC logo because it’s still looks as new and I totally agree.

1 month later when I got notice it’s send back from the repair center in NJ ( here is the thing , I thought everything was sent back to Paris for repair ? ) , and it’s ready for me . When I went to the store and saw the bag , my heart stopped. They replaced the CC logo ! And the tone of the gold color on that is way off , it’s not even antique or matt or anything close . It looks like the gold was scrapped off on the surface and it looked so ugly . I refused to accept the bag and asked them to replace it for me . Weeks later with no any answers from Chanel , I called the customer service, and finally there is this lady who works in the boutique called me and telling me the repair center refuses to replace the turn lock , as they think the antique gold matches the catalog. Even though the lady is still trying to communicate with NJ repair center , they refuse to fix it. And this now has to be elevated to Chanel customer care . I requested to change back to my original CC clasp . I am yet to wait the answer . Any suggestions guys ? What’s the best solution here if they refuse to replace. I’ve attached a photo of the new clasp they put on . Didn’t take pictures of my original one though . Any thoughts are welcome. Thanks all !

Hi guys , I got the call today from Chanel customer care , they refuse to fix the clasp and not able to replace my original ones as well . I’m asking them to send me a formal email with the statement . The bag is still in the boutique. So furious now , what I can do next .

Really not surprised! I know you liked the aged hardware look, but it might be worth considering and asking if they are willing to replace all the hardware to gold so that it matches through out the bag. It's their fault for messing it up, they should have refused to replace it to begin with if they didn't have the right part. Or also consider if they can offer you store credit for a replacement, since this really is their fault for swapping out to the wrong hardware. Speak to a manager politely in person. If that doesn't work, see if leather surgeons can do a full hardware replacement. Hope you get some answers.

I read someone's comment on here a long time ago that Chanel typically doesn't have the ability to repair or replace parts that are seasonal.. probably why they didn't have the exact tone of your hardware.

Hi Tina
You are totally right . They didn’t even have the guts to admit it’s their fault , they say the replacement is correct based on my serial number , and ‘the hareware will turn to its “original color” with time and several use .’ I’m so done with Chanel , don’t even want to be bothered with store credit , let alone the price difference now won’t be able to get even half of the same medium flap . I will go to the store tomorrow and check leather surgeon options. Thank you !

I have a plum chanel re-editon and looking for advice.
1. silver hardware now looks like aged hardware. Is there a way to refresh the tarnish? Or am I out of luck? Pic one

2. The purple bag has a deep crease on the bottom. How to refresh the leather? Pic two

If anyone knows any repair shops in Dallas area that can make my bag look newer and refreshed I would love to get some recommendations.

Hi! Sorry, this might have been made known before, but I thought their Classic flaps in black or beige qualified for their refurbishment program, regardless of age?

I recently brought in a medium black lambskin classic flap for refurbishment and the after sales associate said they no longer refurbish bags over 10 years old, even the classics.

However he did say they will still repair the hardware regardless of age. What annoyed me was the customer care specialists on the phone knew my bag was 25 years old and they said to bring it in anyway and that they sometimes can source the leather that needs fixing.

I acquired a vintage Chanel in need of repair. I sent it to the Chanel store in Philadelphia for the so-called spa treatment. I was informed by the store manager they stopped doing repairs on vintage Chanel handbags. I received my handbag back with complimentary bottle of CHANEL 5, their signature flower pin with a wonderful card from the store manager complementing me on my vintage purse. So I did some searching and investigating and ended up sending my handbag directly to https://www.ragobrothers.com/.
They gave me a list of their services and I choose what I wanted. I suppose you could label it a “spa treatment”, fancy name for ah...”repairs”! Their workmanship was outstanding and would recommend it for Chanel’s out of the “five year” range. Even the hardware was replated. The end result. A vintage CHANEL of which I am proud to carry and eventually hand down to my daughter.

Frankly I would not purchase a “new” designer brand item in today’s market while I’m sure the experience of laying down your credit card for something of high cost is a titilating experience.
Customer service is not the same, warranties are not the same and frankly the workmanship is sub par.
In particular when I read about new purchases on this site which show flaws after only a bit of use.

Wow! That’s so odd, it’s like great customer service with the goodies, but annoying at the same time. I will definitely give Ragobrothers a call, thank you for the recommendation!

Part of the fun of having these vintage classics is being able to maintain them and pass them down. I guess Chanel finds it more eco friendly to have their bags eventually end up in land fills.

I have another classic flap that’s not quite as old, about 14 years, and just has a popped stitch. I guess they can’t fix this either now.

I called customer service back explaining what happened, and how I wish they would have mentioned the ten year limit on the restoration of classic bags before I drove an hour and a half to the boutique.

She basically blamed me and said I probably wasn’t clear enough on the bag’s age to the previous representative lol.

Hey Ladies, I would really like some advice or suggestions here.

I bought the seasonal hot pink Chanel mini with the star coin purse attached to it from the Cruise 24' collection. After using it (and using it properly) for a month, the color started rubbing off the three points of the star where the zipper is located (and the other two points were fine. So clearly this is not from misuse and is clearly defective.

I took it to the store for them to repair, and long story short they sent me an email on February 1st saying they can't repair it, claiming they don't fix leather discoloration/fading. It is clearly defective and their fault though... I obviously wrote back asking for some sort of solution, and I haven't heard back since then...

What should I do? It's definitely under the 5 year warranty and they know it as it is a seasonal bag. It's not even six months old! I had to play their Chanel game (of buying RTW) in order to buy this bag, and now they won't fix it? Well at least they haven't responded to my email, and it's Feb 22.

Any advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Hello, I'm in the same situation as you right now. Do you have any updates on this issue?
Thank you
