I know it can be confusing with different leathers called similar names, but this thread is for Barenia Faubourg only.

For the original (smooth) Barenia please post here:

Okiern1981, what would you prefer and why. B30 in smooth or faubourg? I like the texture of faubourg...

Honestly, Faubourg. There’s just something special about the grain and the hand of it that makes it (IMHO) a bit more special than smooth Barenia. The grained version doesn’t seem to have the ugly duckling phase, the smell is much more intense, and from my experience the patina seems to evolve much more quickly.

Not that I would turn down smooth Barenia if it were offered, of course....

yes i think we should make this an Ode, but maybe keep elements of the original title?
Everything Barenia Faubourg - an ode

Still going to “argue” against it. As the last dozen or so posts illustrate, this leather is still too new. We don’t know how it ages, as the oldest piece is only 9-10 months old. We don’t know the cost of upkeep, whether Hermès spa can restore the leather or any of those questions.

Without the answers to those questions, adding the thread to an Ode would hobble the process. New owners wouldn’t be able to have ready access to other members’ experience, trials and cost of ownership.

Call me biased, but if you can’t answer all the questions, then you can’t relegate the subject to Ode status. Class is still in session.

A lot of people have started Ode threads in the Clubhouse section even when the item/s in question were still new (like that one for Toolbox or Peau Porc, for instance). Longevity or extensive knowledge of the item is not really a criteria.

Just saying. :flowers:

Aside from the unknown aging data, I would pick the Faubourg over smooth too (and won't turn smooth down either).

I finally confessed to my SA that I almost immediately scratched my B30 with the lock. Thank God I was able to rub it out. She jumped out of her skin before I could tell her the second part.
