That’s interesting, I wonder if it’s a perspective thing rather than factual. I’ve read many times that the strap drop is the same on mm and gm. Really the strap drop should be longer on the gm, as the mm is longer than the pm. The pouch should be bigger for the gm too, as the mm pouch is bigger than the pm. I think LV is missing a trick here, would encourage more people to buy multiple sizes.
Looks like OP is long gone. But I thought I'd suggest the Cabas Mezzo. I never see anyone with this tote, even after it was re-released. Probably because of the vachetta bottom. It's only available pre-loved, but it's much less than the neverfull, has a zipper, and looks more sturdy.
I’m not understanding how it’s “embarrassing” that lots of people have a Neverfull.
If you’re looking for a tote bag that isn’t the Neverfull, and are willing to buy pre-loved, I can’t recommend the Cabas Beaubourg enough. It’s from the men’s collection, but I’ve seen lots of ladies both here and on IG/YouTube use it. It is now discontinued but it was available in Monogram and Damier Ebene. I have both, because it’s such a functional and durable bag. Both of mine are over ten years old and they’re still in great shape.
I have two neverfulls. GM in Azur and MM in Ebene. I love and use them both. I say get what you love. If everyone has one, and you keep looking at it and wanting one, then there is a reason for it. There is a reason why this is a popular bag, it is so useful! Again, get what you love and don't worry about everyone else.

I like the neverfull but not enough to buy one. Yet. Plus I really love having a zipper on my bag. I use the long champ large le pliage in large as my tote. Christian Dior totes are very cute and not as ubiquitous (in my area anyway). I really don’t use tote bags often enough to justify an expensive one.
It’s really a matter of what you want more- an LV tote that a lot of people carry or a more unique tote. Not worth carrying something you are embarrassed about!

Hehe I love my LV Neverfull MM in DE! It depends where u reside though, it is not a popular bag or an IT bag now where I’m staying! (: The Dior tote is gaining momentum and people are gravitating towards that as a tote!
I don’t have one. And someone who joins tPF and on the same day this is their first and basically only post is just trying to stir the pot.
I love Neverfull, the best designed Tote! Beautiful looking, practical and least problem and hard wearing, keep the best value, it's like Gold, against inflation.
I don't have a neverfull, so not everyone has one. 
I've always gravitated towards crossbodys, but, I would like to maybe add one to my collection one of these days. Buy bags that are functional for you.
