This is what I have now~
2 MAM~s Black BBW and Wine( I really do love these and probably won't sell..esp. the Wine..plus with the rain in Portland sometimes..I think it might be good to keep anyway.)

1 MAC~ Old school DG with silver
2 rockers

2 City's(black and Anthra)

Next week! BV Veneta in Ebano

1 Le Pliage that I use for traveling...

If I adore and fall in love with BV(I'm guessing I will)...I might see myself down the road getting something in black..I know..more black but I think when I spend this kind of money on any bag I have to have the bag be extremely useful/versatile..go with lots!

Oooh, next week - exciting!!

Nothing wrong with a lot of black. My black will be BV nero veneta, RM Black Blue Stamp MAM, RM patent quilted MAC, and Bal flat brass first. Black’s just so versatile! And my clothes are often colorful anyway.

while i truly envy all the ladies with a huuuge collection, i am incredibly content with just owning my 5 beautiful loved bags. i know that those 5 are enough and diverse enough that i don't really need more. i had way too many and am really happy with what i have now

i feel the same way, but i would love to get down to 5 bags just like you!!

I love that this thread just keeps going! I haven't been on TPF too much (it's too easy to get too bag obsessed and sometimes lose sight of reality...) but always love to come check this thread.

I am down to 3 bags,
1. LV Tivoli GM
2. RM wine matinee
3. Dooney work tote

I would love to find a black leather bag that is durable so it can double as a work/weekend bag but I'm taking my time in my search. Besides, isn't the fun in the hunt?!

thedseer I went from 15+ bags to now three (my threshold is 5 max). When I had so many bags, I never used them, I never appreciated them, and I was always looking for the next best thing or the next fix...but after spending some time reflecting I have come to the conclusion that:

1. I can only do hobos or totes--they have to fit comfortably over my shoulder. If I get flustered because I have to fuss with it, it's gone.

2. My bags MUST be low maintenance, (like ms p and knas). If I spend my hard earned money on a bag, it should be able to take a lickin'. Life is too short to cradle a bag like a baby (believe me, I have seen this--it's ridiculous!).

3. It has got to be proportionate to my body. I don't know why but I'm anal about this.

4. It has to be comfortable and lightweight. No brainer.

Since I don't have many bags, they have to do double duty where they can be dressed up or dressed down. Frankly, I am just too lazy about changing bags out. At 3 bags, I definitely appreciate what I have and still sometimes feel a bit guilty if one sits too long without being used.

Re: the question about wallets--no, I use the same wallet until it falls apart. I'm really picky about wallets too but will only spend about $150 on one. I guess I always figured that spending $400+ on a wallet could equal a bag! LOL! Not so big on the SLG's either. I use a Harvey's seatbelt makeup bag my DH gave me years ago (still looks new) and a RM pouch for coupons and receipts. I'll be the first to admit that I'd love a couple of LV's but I'm pretty sure it will be around my birthday in January. One fantastic bag a year, I am still trying to stick to my original goal.

I hate to say it but the less I am on TPF, the more content I am with what I have. Sorry for the super long post! Have a great weekend everybody!:flowers:

good to see u around j :D

1 currently have 1 small coach wallet. i'm not a big SLG person. i've a $50 wallet and i had used that wallet straight for 6 years everyday. i got tired of it lol and it's currently kept inside the drawer. when i started straying around a little for wallets i realize paying 3x the price doesn't mean 1. i'll love the new wallet more, 2. it wears better as a daily accessories. i've sold off 2 wallet before getting the coach wallet and i plan to keep it at that for a long while. seriously my old wallet the leather is still looking great albeit the stitching on the corners have came loose very slightly. so every time i consider buying a $500 (or more) wallet i don't feel it's justified as i'm not sure i can commit myself to using it for 10 years or more plus and/if the wallet will last that long.

Love hearing everyone’s responses!

As for wallets, I didn’t have too many SLGs, but I purged most of mine this year. Now I’m left with one small RM pouch and a small BV wallet that’s really supposed to be a card holder or coin purse. It’s holding up extremely well, but I have to be careful not to overstuff it. So I really need a regular size wallet, shooting for $100 or less, and a cheapie make up bag. I can understand why people would have more than 1 wallet, but I am just too lazy to change them out that often.

I’ve been spending a lot of time lurking on Money Talks, which I had never really looked at before. I’m finding this thread particularly interesting food for thought: http://forum.purseblog.com/money-talks/can-you-afford-the-bags-you-carry-441159.html. I’ve reached the one year mark – one year left of full time work before I go back to school full time for about 3 years – so I’m trying to be more aggressive about saving money, and spending time in Money Talks and less in reveal threads sure is helping. I’ve been carrying my nero veneta almost exclusively lately, and I think it might just be the perfect bag for me. Makes me more inclined to purge more and less inclined to buy more (though I would like another BV down the road…). Now I just need to finish my purging!

wow, thanks for pointing us to that thread, thedseer!! it makes me want to purge my collection more. and reminds me that i should be doing other things with my play money.

i still need a little push to purge the last of my bags and to do a serious purge of my clothes. i'm going to try to get myself to do something this weekend, but really need to spend a lot of time working on my thesis, so that might not happen.

meanwhile, trying to stay more on money talks and health & fitness and less on reveals. i haven't bought anything in a month and a half, so i guess it's helping.

i also found this linked on the money talks subforum and thought it might be helpful for everyone having problems with purging: http://zenhabits.net/simple-wasteless/

I have 5 bags in my mini collection, and they all get lots of love because I change bags often. That's one thing that helps me keep my collection small -- using different bags helps satisfy my need for variety, so I'm less inclined to buy more bags. If I use the same bag for a long time I get bored, and that's when I start looking around for something new. These days, when I get bored I know the solution is to change the bag I'm carrying not buy a new one.

I often grab a clutch when I go out on a quick errand. It takes les than a minute to grab essentials from my purse and put them in a clutch, and again, I feel like I have a bigger collection than I really do because I'm "mixing it up."

Another thing that helps is recognizing that bags are like artwork to me. I love looking at cool, unusual, or pretty things. Sometimes when I'm craving a new bag, I go to a museum and look at art, and the need for the bag lessens. It's what works for me.

I posted more advice way way upthread, which I won't repeat here.

Oh and in case you don't want to pour through my collection thread, here's what I have:

1. BV New Ball in baltic blue (I wear a lot of jeans, so blue is a neutral for me)

2. BV maxi veneta in cobalt (got it for 50% off, yay!)

3. BV cervo hobo (the one with 'baseball' weave) in black -- this is my only black bag.

4. Ferragamo Sofia in red/scarlatto (it's like a giant slouchy Kelly-style bag, but pierced. I love that it can be hand-carried or used with a shoulder strap. Works like a briefcase for me)

5. Ferragamo Samuela shoulder bag in oceano blue. (A little smaller than I like in a bag, so this gets carried when I need something sized like a large clutch, but with the convenience of a shoulder strap)

I don't count my Longchamp Le Pliage bags in the "handbag" collection, because I don't carry them as purses. I use them mainly for toting groceries, large items like shoes, boxes to the post office, and for travel.

I have 4 clutches (2 designer, 2 non-designer) and I think I'm done buying for now. I'm happy with my collection right now, and rarely find myself thinking that I want a new bag. I think using them all a lot makes the difference.

i am in the process of getting rid of 70% of my collection; i just dont use them-i think i need to figure what style suits my life-instead of buying all these bags that dont cut it-i think you get to a certain age and you know what is going to work and what isnt-its taken me a long time to get there-
doreenjoy-i love that about the artwork, its so true, some of these bags are truly works of art that should be valued and appreciated and of course used...they are special- and i will take your advice on going to an art museum and looking at some great art the next time i get the urge to buy another bag!!

I like this..thanks for sharing..:flowers:

great advice doreen. i like the idea of going to an art museum.

just thought i would bump this thread to see how everyone is doing.

Thanks!

I'm doing great on my purge/ban. I resisted getting anoter BV New Ball...it's my favorite style, they don't make it anymore, and it was 50% off..but I don't need a second one.

How's everyone else? And where the heck is Lo?

i haven't posted in this thread for a while, but i completely fell off track when spring clearance hit the stores.... i splurged a lot in shoes and some bags, so now I'm back to purging to help recoup some costs. it's time for me to go through my closet again and decide which of my babies need to go. this is always the worst part!
