Hi ladies! It's the first time that I've posted in this thread, but I've seen some of you on the RM forum:) I decided to do a major closet purging over the past two weeks after reading the Shopping Diet by Phillip Bloch. I went through my wardrobe and got rid of all of the clothing and shoes that did not fit or that I hadn't worn in awhile. I also had made the decision to sell off most of my RM bags, since they have not been fitting into my lifestyle lately. I ended up selling my 4 remaining larger RM bags and kept a black rose and a purple mac. I have 2 Alexander Wang bags and a Chanel in my collection too. With all of the $$$ that I raised from selling items (it was a couple thousand dollars!), I am treating myself to a Balenciaga Raisin City, Pourpre First and a YSL arty ring! I don't feel any remorse about selling the bags (or other items) and do not miss them. They were just sitting in my closet taking up space. I feel really happy about my huge purge!

I've purged almost all of my bags, except three! I have two more that I want to sell that I've been having trouble, but oh well I just have to be patient. I think I will be buying a tote, and that's it for a long while! I'm tired of buying with selling in mind, and selling, and switching out my bags... I'm ready to just have one bag that I hang on the door every day!

I'm starting to feel the same way....just having a hard time figuring out which to sell and which to keep and what my everyday bag should be. :thinkin:

I have a few "everyday" bags (depending on colors I'm wearing and the weather) and then I have a few fun bags. So I think it ends up being 7 in regular rotation. Then I have about 9 smaller bags for weekends, dates, parties, errands, etc.

I have found this is a great number for me. I'd actually like to get my smaller bags down to about 5 and my everyday/fun bags to maybe 4-5 but for now I am comfy. I carry the same bag for 4-5 days staight as opposed to every day when I had a closet full.

And what I really like is the variety now. I don't have just one designer anymore... I have a mixture of several. I don't know why but I like it better that way.

You sound like me, knas. Right now I have 8 every day bags and 5 smaller/evening bags, and plan to purge again soon and get to 5-7 every day and 4 smaller/evening. I like having a mix of designers too (I have 5-RM, Bal, BV, AW, Coach) – gives me more variety in terms of style & color and I feel like it’s more of a safety net with possible QC/CS issues in case something goes south.

I find that the more I’ve purged, the more I want to trim even more, but I’m having a hard deciding what to get down to. I have almost all neutrals, and am craving a little color, so I’m thinking of buying one replacement bag in a versatile color once I purge more. And i’m still debating about how low I want to go. I do like the idea of having just one every day bag, and would probably choose my nero veneta if I could only pick one.

Sometimes I think about all the other things I could use the money for, and am tempted to sell most of my bags off. But I do also like a little variety. In January though, I couldn’t have imagined myself where I am now, so maybe by December I’ll be like “8 bags?! Pshh. I am doing great with just 3.” I guess the plan for now is to sell more off, slowly and comfortably, and reassess after each sale.

I’ve got a trip to Vegas in October and a trip to South America in January, plus I go back to school in a year, so I am trying to put away as much $ as I can. I’m trying to spend more time on other subforums, like Health and Fitness and Money Talks so I don’t get tempted. Luckily most of the temptation is coming from BV, which is too expensive for me to buy without planning first.

Well thedseer, your avatar has me looking and drooling at all the BV's. That color is perfect, and the bag is divine. I actually have thought about trimming down a lot and hunting for a yummy BV. :girlsigh:

It's been a pretty slow process - first sold off duplicate styles and colors, and then once I got used to having those (it was probably closer to 5 or 6 bags), I started really paying attention to which ones I used more often and which were just "well, I haven't used this in a while and I should probably change it up."

And I keep a spreadsheet of all the bags I've owned, and which ones I've sold and why. It has really helped me figure out what my priorities are.

I've also done the "hide it in the guest room closet" trick to see if I really miss a bag before selling it. :)
