Agreed, Thedseer. :)

I am also just about done purging, I sold my most expensive bag finally and now just have a few other small ones to lose. I am waiting until at least one more has sold before buying another one. I will have three (plus one new one) bags when I'm done - RM wine mini nikki (my everyday one for now), HH oyster lorca, and a coach black ergo hobo. The RM just doesn't have the capacity and ease of use that I want, but it's my most favorite bag ever so I'll use it a lot when I'm not carrying as much. Now I just can't decide if I want the fourth to be a navy or a brown bag, but it definitely has to have a crossbody option in addition to over the shoulder.

Today I had a desire to purge some of my HG bags I hardly use, in order to find a more practical designer shoulder bag... I've achieved my HGs, perhaps the obsession of owning them has died down?? Or perhaps it's frustrating to look at them and see they don't really fit in with my current life situation.

We'll see. I really could use something more in keeping with my lifestyle (busy SAHM).

Has anyone purged a HG bag for something else that is more useful? (HG = holy grail)

I don't want to regret it tho; with my luck as soon as it's gone, I will need it for a special event!

I believe in getting rid of items that one is not using or that one no longer has interest in. I just sent 2 bags to resale, day before yesterday, as I don't use them much. I've had them for over 5 years and they're still in mint condition. I thought that I would have them for a decade or more, but I've outgrown them and need something larger.

I'd really like a Fendi, Peekaboo, in bordeaux....www.nordstrom.com. I hope the price comes down and way down as I think it's ridiculous. Just last week, there was a black Fendi Peekaboo, on one of my dot.com shopping discount places and it was marked down over $700. So, hopefully the bordeaux one will also eventually go down as it's a beautiful bag and the style is timeless. I remember my grandmother and great grandmother having similar styles back in the 60s, as they had great handbag collections.

This is such a great thread! I hope it doesn't die off!

I came here several months ago and really got into Lo's purge mode! But then I followed her to Balenciaga:cloud9:

Ha ha, Sandy! Following Loquita can be bad for the wallet. She takes such amazing pictures of her bags that you just WANT ONE NOW! You are doing really well on the purging!

I have one bag left that I still need to sell. If you are considering purging, just be patient. Your listings will eventually sell. Everytime I thought about taking down a listing, a message would come through from bay or bonz and off it would go.

I am now much more disciplined about buying styles that suit me rather than buying something because I like the colour/designer. There have been a couple of times where I contemplated a style but then didn't pull the trigger as they just don't suit my lifestyle.

VB - yes, I am about to go on "the ban" wagon! I am happy to have found Balenciaga - I love the leather and the colors! Just like BE:D The smell of the leather that each of these designers use is amazing.

Finding the styles that truly suit your lifestyle has been a learning experience for me too! But, the bad habit I have developed is to get multiples of each one:p

I am still purging to attempt to get to a good number of bags, for me.

I see you have a Nutmeg TMA midi being made for you now - I love the TMA! I have had the regular size but think the midi will be a perfect everyday bag!

So my ban of "not to buy a bag until my b-day every year"..didn't quite work out..I'm early by about 8 months:amuse: ..but I did save for it and got my Bal Black City with RH last week!
I'm now in the process of selling my brown bag to fund another brown bag that I like better (color is closer to what I would like). I haven't sold or had to purge anything in quite some time and boy selling is slow going! Hopefully if it sells it will just be a wash..which works.

I am still flirting wi purging my bags. I've made a commitment cut down to 20 bags before my 2011 birthday.

But, I did tackle my jewelry box - I sold 43 pieces, and have replaced them with 8 pieces. I still need to conquer the earring drawer. But progress has been made!

Wow that is fantastic! I think it's great that you have saved the $ and really know what works for you!

I have to agree that selling is very slow--I have one to sell and am considering a consignment shop. Resales are terrible and I'm not in that big of a rush to sell it (not if that means losing my a$$).

I am still staying strong (although it's really tough), wanting to get a great bag for my birthday in January..not sure what that will be yet. I still have my LV, one RM, and a work tote. I find I am very picky now, can't commit to anything. Is that normal after purging almost everything?

That is great! I bet it feels great to purge your jewelry and get some pieces that you can really enjoy!

I wouldn't be too hard on yourself about not purging bags also. Baby steps, the jewelry is a big first move!

I still have to do earrings (which is the really scary category). But the other day I opened a drawer of my jewelry box... And I could see everything I owned. THAT was a very good feeling

Brava to the successful purgers!

Thanks, jx!:flowers:
I read through quickly for one consignment shop and its seems like they take alot for the fee..but I could be mistaken..and should probably go and read it again. I've never done it before.
Well..your bday isn't too far away!..and congrats for sticking to your plan!!
I don't think its bad to be picky at all..and it sounds like your really thinking through what your purchase will be....you will find "the one"

Unfortunately, nothing seems to live up to my standards now! Maybe I should get into the mode of thinking that "it's just a purse"...I have to stop thinking about how to get the perfect "collection". (Yes, I put wayyy too much thought into bags.)

I have some experience with consignment shops. You will not get much, but you will get the bag out of the house.

In my experience, they shouldn't charge you a fee!
You bring your item to them - they will accept it if they think they can sell it. Then, they will display and promote it. You get money if and only if they successfully sell it. You get anything from 40-70% (although the average does seem to be in the 50% range). If your item is shoplifted, if the store burns done, if the employees simply lose the item - you are SOL. Watch them. If the end of the consignment period comes (anywhere from 30-90 days) your item can be donated.

sounds like everyone is doing great! i'm thinking about purging more but i sure was enjoying my break from selling. i still feel like i have some "excess baggage" though. but i think i'm going to try to purge some clothing first. fall is right around the corner, and i don't want to get new things until i can free up some room!
