I guess for me, I became more and more interested in BV and Bal but wasn’t super comfortable dropping so much $. Also, I wasn’t happy with a lot of my bags, and wasn’t using many either. So it seemed like a win-win: get rid of bags I don’t use, and use the money to fund bags I will.

I was also over having so many bags of the same style, and wanted some variety. I spent a lot of time on the other subforums researching what I wanted, and this also got me excited for my purchase and more focused on purging. It got easier and easier.

I’m really happy with the quality and classicness of the new bags I purged for, and also thankful to have some lighter bags – as much as I love RM’s dogleash hardware, the weight kills me!

Good luck!

Me three!

I looked in my closet one day and saw all these bags that I never used but obsessively collected! I really wasn't comfortable spending the $1k on my LV but I started thinking about all the money I had wasted buying/selling mid level brands that never worked for me. And here I was spending $500 a month (or whatever) on bags when I could just spend $1k and buy a bag that's a keeper! That's what convinced me to do it. Going for something that is going to last, that is classic, that works for my lifestyle (most important).

Besides, I am a stick with one bag type of person (too lazy to change out) so I want the very few bags I have to be FANTASTIC!! And they are..to me!

knas I think that coated canvas is totally underrated! I love it, it's so easy to maintain--it's so nice not having to worry about something scratching or staining our nice leather bags! You have cut down you collection quite a bit!! Do you love your Galliera? (I am thinking about that for my next bag...)

klj you are too cute! I think if you save for it, it's great--I wouldn't get too stuck on the birthday thing! Especially since you know you love Bal and you know that it works for you!! I say go for it!!

I'm thinking of doing a big purge to fund a Bal or Chloe...but I haven't mentally been able to convince myself yet. What finally convinced you ladies to go for it?

I have recently acquired 2 Balenciaga handbags and 1 wallet. What convinced me to go for it was my trip to the US. Where I live I need to hire a customs agent for any shipment over US$1,000, so I thought I would just take them back personally while travelling there.

I like my Bals, but I just don't use them much, they are more like collectibles to me. I also have a few LV in my closet that I NEVER use. Right now I am totally obsessed with Botkier's AVA style, which means, I still tend to prefer mid range handbags more because I get more use out of them.

Ha ha...I guess I was being too careful about sticking to my plan....:p;)

Thanks for all the responses ladies. What I'm afraid of is that I will purge my mid-range bags (most of which I actually really love, but just don't use too often because I have so many) and buy a Bal or Chloe, and then either not love it (but what's the likelihood of that) or not use it because it cost $$$. OTOH, I like the idea of having just a few classic bags and not such an overwhelming number.

That's my problem. I would be afraid to ruin a bag that costs so much to replace. Plus, I like to be able to switch out my bags to go with what I am wearing and the style to what my day needs. sometimes I just want a small cross body bag, but some days a satchel wins my heart. Then there are days when a hobo will be perfect to bring. I don't have an overwhelming number of bags, so I am not terribly worried. I have found a few styles that work best for me and I am trying to keep the number of bags I have reasonable.

I felt like this alittle in the beginning but it subsides..esp. if you love it..you'll want to use it.
I did keep the RM's that I can't part with...so I have a couple of MAM's.. my SO Black BW and Wine w/Brass...then I have my DG MAC w/silver and two 3 zip rockers..(which I use the heck out of)..Black and Harewood...so I've kept some midrange which helps to round it out and when I'm extra worried about the weather or whatever.. I grab these instead.
I've found out through it all so far..that my color range is grey, black, brown and a wine/red...that I use the most. This seems to fit what I wear.
So a mix of mid and higher works best for me.;)

^ That's the way I was just a month ago or so, but the more I thought about it.....it started to bother me less. And it just seemed really dumb for me to keep bags I don't use just because I love looking at them.

You and I are very similar klj! I tend to go for neutral bags too, rather than pops of color. I have the most grey, black, wine and purple bags. Why I need 30 bags in these colors is beyond me. I'm purging a bunch right now that I'm just not using. After that, I will take another good look at my collection and finally decide if I should go for my dream Bal or Chloe. I'm liking this idea more and more so I think it's just a matter of time before I decide to go for it. :p

Hi Ladies,

I see this thread continues to grow! I hope that you are all doing well. It sounds like we've got quite a reflective group in this bunch, and I love all the insight that is being shared.

I've been tied up with a number of things and traveling and found that I am enjoying carrying my Longchamp bags for the most part. I feel like I've finally figured out what works for me instead of buying a style that is gorgeous but not practical for my lifestyle. I must admit to being very intrigued by the Proenza Schouler PS1 but the price tag is such a deal-killer for me. I actually think it would be a perfect all around bag but I wish it were priced differently.

I am also a neutral girl for the most part--tan, brown, black with a great deep red and blue Tano thrown in for good measure--and I think that works just fine. I tend to enjoy styles that have a quiet and simplistic beauty to them.

I've been spending a lot of time weeding, cleaning and organizing and that will really halt any desire to shop for just about anything!

thedseer & knasarae: which RM's did you end up keeping? You both had such nice bag collections.

A lot of my bags are made out of weatherproof material. Pretty much for every type of bag I have (e.g. medium satchel), I have a weatherproof version.

I kept 3 Mini Nikkis - Noir, Scarlet and Olive, 7 MACs (Teal & PH 3-Zips, White Python, Distressed Brown, SO Dark Grey, Green Dot and Bumpy Beige Patent) and 3 Rockers (Lavender Stud, Pepper Stud and Black Perfo) I'd actually like to get the MACs down to 4 or 5 but I honestly love all the ones I have left at this point.

I'm thinking of doing a big purge to fund a Bal or Chloe...but I haven't mentally been able to convince myself yet. What finally convinced you ladies to go for it?

The fact that I reached for the same few bags over and over and only carried the other ones once in a blue moon. Also standing in my closet every night for 20-30 minutes trying to figure out which bag to carry for the next day, lol.

I do love my Galliera. In fact if they made one in the Graphite Damier I would buy it in a heartbeat. But unfortunately they say that's for men only and they will never make it in the women's line. If I had to save one bag from a burning building that would be the one. It's big but very comfy and lightweight so that it never fills overwhelming...even when I have a bunch of extra stuff in it.

That's my problem. I would be afraid to ruin a bag that costs so much to replace. I understand your concern but that's why I chose to plunk down the big bucks on an LV. They're made to last a lifetime and if something happens to it I can get it fixed. I won't get the runaround. That made me feel much better about spending that much on a single bag.

I totally do this and it drives me bonkers sometimes! I mean, it's fun too but so time-consuming. I tend to forget what bags I even have since they're all stored in dustbags. This is great feedback, I think I am finally getting there!
