I keep going back and forth between wanting a collection consisting of all sorts of bags in order to get a nice all 'round set, or only owning a few I truely love and use...And the current economy isn't helping either, I've had a Miu Miu on the bay for a week now and it still has no bids...

I am currently trying to sell a couple bags and accessories, and this is after I sold a few other bags! It be honest, it's somewhat of a relief to be able to sell bags that I didn't use much. It pained me to see how much I had spent on bags to just sit in the closet. I don't rotate my bags often because I get "stuck" on using the same one for a couple months.

I was obsessing over another bag that I wanted to buy which is what spurred me into action. Now that I've been selling, I'm not sure if I still want the bag or not! silly, huh?

I don't think its silly at all, because you're now thinking will that bag make a difference?

If not, wait until something else comes along.

Here's my little update ladies:

I feel quite liberated this week. Here's why.
I recently sold all my Belen Echandia handbags (don't care for this line anymore due to the styles and quality) and a couple others that weren't being worn.

This week I decided to purchase a Tod's G bag AND that decision feels great. No second guessing myself since I'm certain I "need" an all weather bag that will fit perfectly in my collection. I used to feel a little guilty over buying a new handbag when I already owned x amount. But I've learned my lesson. It's not about quantity for me anymore but quality!

This approach has worked beautifully for me.:smile1:

What LV do you own? I too have sold away my collection and now am getting ready for my first LV. It is going to happen. But deep inside I keep wondering . . . can it possibly be that much better than my mid-level bags but somehow I think I know the answer. But I do believe in having several, but at times I have had too many for sure. That is when I sell. My current problem is I don't want to sell the ones I have. I have a feeling once I get the LV, that won't be a problem. . .

The auction for the bag ends tonight and I'm really can't make up my mind if I want to bid or not. I think one reason is that it's much more expensive than my other purses which are mostly Coach.

It really is a pretty bag in good condition but then again, it's just a purse. Ok I think I've talked myself out of bidding! :p

Wow I've been reading this thread and feel I've to contribute my experience.

Before I came into the world of designer bags, I was buying high street brands and anything I found nice, one day I laid eyes on a Tod's leather bag and knew I had to have it, so I went and got rid of about 60 bags I had and bought that one Tod's bag!

Never regretted it and never looked back since. What an awesome liberation! :happydance::whistle: I now have a small collection of classic well made designer bags that's gonna take me through a few good years. Till then, I'm keeping everyone of them!

Interesting the past few threads have been about Tods! I went on a mission to sell all my bags to get the Burberry Healy Knotted Tote. I saw it in Atlanta before it was even up on their website. I contemplated for a month, sold about 10 bags and got it. Then before it arrived I saw the new Tod's G Bucket and HAD to have it. Luckily, I had sold enough bags to get both! Now I have two exceptionally made bags that will suit me for a long time. I am trying to find a Tod's G in canvas in a color and then I am really happy. I have a couple of mid range bags to swap out to, but I find the Tods is my go to bag. The Burberry will be my winter bag..and then of course, I will NEVER part with my RM Chocolate MAB...I bought about 15 RMs and sold all but three, and I may still get rid of two of them.
QUALITY is soooooooooooooo much better than quantity.

syrenity: Don't sell any more if you like what you have. You've done what you need to do to get your first LV...you'll know if you need to purge more after the LV. You're doing everything the right way, IMO!

There were a couple of Tod's G bags at the cabazon outlet this past week. You might wanna give them a call :p

glad to see this thread's getting more action! i sold some more, including one for my sis that sold super quickly! i still have 5 left to sell, and then i'm done for now!

my parents found out that i've been selling and were impressed (when my dad found out i sold a purse for $450, he was like "that's an expensive purse!" little does he know...) so i'm going to help them sell. they're moving and i'm moving so i've been more aggressive about purging - went through some of my books yesterday and found about 100 to donate. moving is very motivating.

i've done a little bit of "editing" recently (i.e., sold a something to buy it in a larger size and so forth). i'm pretty happy with my size and color variety, but i still feel like i'm a little satchel heavy and would like to sell a few more of those to fund a hobo (thinking a bal day in sang?). i've been gravitating more toward hobos lately. i also used money from recent sales to buy my first bbag and love it. i'm still at 9 bags once i finish purging, but my ultimate goal is still slightly less.

sometimes i feel like the cycle never ends, but i do feel like i am almost there. i think.

thedseer: Good for you! Are you moving the bags on the Bay or on bonz or both? I am wondering if I have to move more onto the Bay but my sales have been slower there lately.

Moving does help with the motivation, I have to say. Now that we live in a house we bought instead of renting, the motivation goes really quickly. WOW 100 books? That's a lot of books!

A Bal Sang Day sounds lovely!

i've sold on the bay before, but not recently. i think i will try to sell clothes there soon, but besides that, going to stick with bonz for now. both moves should happen in july so if by late may/early june i still have some hanging around, i'll probably move them then.

i have SO many books - 100 was only a fraction :p they are just so heavy to keep moving. i hate moving every 1-2 years, but it certainly helps keep my stuff to a minimum.

I do this kind of thinking all the time: "It's a $2500 bag, but do I like it twice as much as the bag I have that cost $1250?" The answer is almost always no.

I now have a small collection of classic well made designer bags that's gonna take me through a few good years.

That's how I feel as well. The thrill of buying/acquiring has been replaced by the thrill of knowing I have a carefully selected small collection.

An added benefit is I'm now much more confident of my purchases, because I know I'm buying with the "do I need it" attitude.

Good for you! I used to be a crazy book collector. Then one day I looked around my apartment and there was a clutter of books in every room in the house. I had bookshelves in the kitchen! It was crazy. So I decided that books had to be in designated areas of the house (office and bedroom) and that books weren't "allowed" in the kitchen or living room. It helped a lot. Over the course of a couple of years I've whittled myself down to less than 200 books, and at least 50 of those are "to be read and discarded." I decided that anything I ever wanted to read again would be available via library or the internet -- that made it so much easier to toss them.

New goal, so I thought I'd start a new post for it.

Now that my bags are under control (fewer than 5) it feels like time to start in on my scarf collection. I have identified at least 10 that I can sell with no qualms. They are all Hermes so they should fetch decent prices.

If I get them all sold, I'll feel justified buying the new Ferragamo I have decided will be my next addition.

I have to take photos of the scarves, which takes time, but I'm hoping to do that in the next month or two. I have some Real Life stuff going on that's been keeping me from my scarf purging goals.

Congratulations, Doreen! Sounds like you feel pretty secure in letting those H scarves go. I hope they fetch nice prices for you.

I'm happy to report that I continue to sell off some bags that I decided just didn't make the cut in terms of how often I would use them. My problem was that I would end up with several of the same general style which was really unnecessary. But, unlike people some in this thread who are selling mutliples of a bag to buy a higher priced/quality/special bag, I find myself sort of going in the other direction--discovering that a couple of Longchamp bags are really what I enjoy carrying most days. Is that odd? :D

When I'm finished, I will have just a couple of my beloved BE bags, a couple of great Coach leather bags (two that were gifts from Mom) and a couple of Longchamp. I still have a few bang around/haul stuff bags but that will be it. I feel like I'm at the point where I realize I don't really need too many bags period. My lifestyle is pretty casual and for work/dress up times, the few I have fit the bill perfectly.

I'm scaling down but I feel like I'm also lightening up (from leather to Longchamp). Maybe I'm doing this backwards but it feels right to me.
