that's interesting about yoogi's closet. I'm tired of selling on ebay and bonanzle, especially since some of the bags aren't moving.... the fact that they pay outright is nice. I might give them a try.

Lo, love the new boombox avatar!!

Thanks!

And the Yoogi's intrigues me as well...

Too bad I have nothing to sell. :p

(Well, actually I have one bag at AFF, and something on the B, but nothing super urgent). It's great to know about Yoogi's, though.

Ladies, I've got a question. Wasn't sure whether I should post it in the ebay section or not. I have an old Abercrombie and Fitch safari satchel. It's one of their original bags from way back in very good condition. However, I had my name imprinted on it. How can I sell it since it has my name on it and how do I find out it's worth? Any ideas? *If this question should be posted in that forum, just let me know. TIA!

I take it your name isn't removeable from the bag? How is it imprinted? Is there a way to over imprint on top of it to blur out your name?

I don't know what it will be worth, but I've seen bags with skus written in them and the sellers usually black them out. I think it's more appealing to the buyer if it's not personalized for someone else, kwim?

I'm not sure about the resale of a modern bag with a name imprinted.

Lower end products like the Le Pliage -- who cares, the embossing/embroidery might even make it more 'fun' if it has someone else's name.

Higher end, I think only vintage bags would be appealing if they're personalized. Buyers can think about the "provenance" of a bag, of its being handed down through generations, of where this unknown lady whose initials/name are on the bag carried it.I know for me, that's part of the appeal of vintage. But in a modern high-end bag, I'm not sure there's a big draw for initialled bags; it tends to emphasize that you bought the bag used.

I'm thinking of getting a custom bag that will have a plate with my name in it. I know this will make it a "forever" bag but so far I'm OK with that notion.

I've found my ideal next bag (number 4 for my streamlined collections) but it's sold out everywhere! I'm hiring a personal bag shopper to track it down for me. Yes, I'm *that* obsessed (and that busy, right now).

and I'll bet I can guess which bag it is!! He he :D PS: Thanks for the advice. It's what I was thinking and needed to hear!

I only have hobos for casual bags. Well, hobos and the Longchamp folding Le Pliage bags, which I don't count because I use them for hauling stuff, not as handbags per se. Hobos are the most practical style for me. I like the look and I need a bag that can be put over my shoulder. I only have three so I don't think I'm overdoing it. I'll get a medium non-hobo shoulder bag if I can find one in a great color (I'm thinking chocolate).

Much as I love satchels on the shelf, my tolerance for carrying a bag in the crook of my elbow is about 5 seconds, so I resist buying them.

I have a weakness for clutches, but they're not used as often as day bags so I try to keep them to a minimum. Right now I have 4, and that's plenty. If I decide to get another I'm going to have to let one go.

I really admire your style!

I love this thread. I really enjoy reading everyone's input and handbag journeys. I have been caught up in what feels like an endless cycle of buying and selling in the pursuit of my perfect collection. I often find myself falling in love with the 'idea' of a bag and then when I get it it is not practical for me. I love to look at it in my closet, but if it doesn't serve me as a handbag then what am I doing with it! I love to look at lots of the high end designer bags, but these don't fit my lifestyle, I know that I'm a midrange bag girl (rm, treesje, lp, hh). I guess this is a good thing, since I really can't afford those anyway. :p I would really be happy with myself if I could get down to not having any duplicates of bags in my collection and no more than 10 bags. I think that is more than enough for me, since I don't change bags that often. I'm actually getting pretty close and I just hope i can stick to it. I'm so easily drawn in by beautiful reveals on this forum, ugh! I need to learn to be happy and enjoy what I have instead of looking for the next best thing....

I know exactly what you mean about the cycle and its a never ending one.

Well it was until now.

I had a wake up call last year when I was going to spend £400 on bag (money I didn't have) and later I cancelled the bag because I couldn't justify it.

Now I am on the road to recovery.

I have purchased bags from Etsy that have been great quality but haven't been what I really needed. So I am now purging these.

I have just bought a casual spring bag made out of oilcloth from a UK based designer for £35 which I am really happy with and have been using for 2 weeks today without chaging to another bag.

I have a summer bag in white leather so don't need anymore spring/summer bags. I have a grey clutch that I can wear on the shoulder so don't need a grey bag.

On my list of bags to buy are:
  • Smart classic black bag (Longchamp Roseau treating myself next month when my bags are sold).
  • A bag for travelling (so I can cram all my stuff in)
  • Another bag in red or navy don't know what style or brand yet.

The best part is planning and feeling great at the end. I really feel as though I have changed as a person and not wasting endless hours feeling inferior because I can't afford the $1000 bags. I have set myself a budget of £400 for a bag although £200 would feel more reasonable to me.

I enjoy the support of this thread, because we all have different backgrounds and what we can afford from person to person is different our styles are different and yet we are all in the same boat and want to achieve the same outcome.

shopaholic, well said! I couldn't agree with you more, and congratulate you on what you have achieved, as it is anything but easy to reach the point where you are at. To me, part of the endless cycle of buying and selling is about some sort of restlessness that resides in every individual for different reasons. I have found that the best way to counter that restlessness (at least for me) is to force myself to be thoughtful and not just react to my impulse to buy whatever I see that strikes my fancy (I find that making all of my purchases in cash/on a debit card has curbed that habit as well!!!)

I do tend to like higher-end bags (albeit more casual ones) so this means that I have to budget very carefully and paying full retail is generally not an option. I do not lose any sleep over this. :smile1:

I am currently trying to sell a couple bags and accessories, and this is after I sold a few other bags! It be honest, it's somewhat of a relief to be able to sell bags that I didn't use much. It pained me to see how much I had spent on bags to just sit in the closet. I don't rotate my bags often because I get "stuck" on using the same one for a couple months.

I was obsessing over another bag that I wanted to buy which is what spurred me into action. Now that I've been selling, I'm not sure if I still want the bag or not! silly, huh?

^Makes sense to me, actually...I have experienced the same thing! I think that abandoning the buying cycle as your primary activity can really alter your habits - it's disruptive in that respect, but really positive.

I find myself at a point where I am really thinking over each purchase. In general, I have to talk myself into each purchase as opposed to out of each purchase like before. But I still struggle with occasional bouts of "I want all of this and I want it now."
