I'd use one of my vintage clutches with lots of beaded embroidery on it:yes:

As much as I love Bbags, I don't use them for formal occasions. I think they're a bit too casual for that.

if it's a "meet the president" type thing ... I would say chanel or judith lieber clutch.

ITA! My ex-Stepmother had quite the Ludith Lieber collection and though I detested them back in the day, they are amazing for those kind of events. Of course, one can never go wrong with Chanel. For Bal, I'd use a Matelasse Clutch, the GH foldover clutch, or maybe an oval, depending on the particulars....

So, what's your preferred style for a night out on the town? Dinner, movie, dancing ...

I love the look of the first and think it might be the perfect going out bag, but then, is it too small? I'm tall, even the city looks smallish on me, and I also always like to be able to tuck something to cover up with into my bag, a light throw, a cardigan, something. I don't like feeling cold!

What's your favourite going out bag, and why? And tell us the colour too.

I voted the Twiggy in BLACK

Great shape, comfy to hold by the handes, crook of arm, shoulder (my preference) or by the strap.

It's big enough to fit as much as the City and can be glammed up for an evening out if neccessary especially in BLACK!

City, in any color really. My mogano city gets the most use amongst my cities.

I always have a really thin scarf at the bottom of my bags so I can whip it out if it gets cold. Melbourne is terrible like that - it might be the height of summer but the temperature can drop so much within minutes at night, so something warm is essential! I don't own a first (yet) so I can't comment on the size of the first.

I'd actually really like a Shoulder as a going-out bag. I currently tend towards my LV pochette acessoires, which is about the same size. If I had to pick it would be the Shoulder or the First in something like black or pewter. Nothing larger - I've gone out with my city before and I've never been so paranoid in my life!

I would say first because I wouldn't want to tote a large bag around. With a first you can carry all your essentials, money, lipstick and a few more items without being bogged down. You can use it as a shoulder bag too for hands free.
