Thanks so much Kohl!!! :smooch: Have you gone dress shopping yet?

:hugs: Nope! Hehe, wedding planning will happen sometime my third year in law school (in about 6 months' time) and will continue after I take the Bar!! But I am going very non-traditional and am just going to buy a pretty white dress that I can happen to wear on other occasions since I'm going to do a civil ceremony. . . . . .

Hmmmm, if you don't like the mix of colors, how would you feel about putting the RG bracelet on your right hand? It's a shame that Cartier's RG and WG have fading issues.

Also, on the dress, it doesn't matter as much if it does end up dated, you don't wear the dress for the rest of your life, you know?

Thats the thing! It's not so much mixing so much as the tones and styles don't match. But I may feel different when Im ready to buy it. I have a YG bracelet from before I stopped wearing when I got my ering because it clashed too much.... Even SS didn't appeal.... It's a work in progress haha

I don't know much about e-ring trends. I always thought the icy white diamond was a current new millennium favorite because most antique diamonds I've seen have some color to them. But what do I know? I've only been alive for 20 something years and have no knowledge about rings except for what is in now. Everything is up to personal preference. Some people buy it just for looks, some buy it for investment purposes (though I heard diamonds are not particularly good in this category; metals like gold are more valuable), and some buy it because everyone else is buying it! I guess what I'm trying to say is that trends are very subjective and things that go out of fashion come back in so trending is very cyclical. It's hard to say what is or isn't "in" sometimes.

I think the icy white diamond is also something that the diamond marketing machine try to put out there as the best, since it's rare and expensive, and it's only when you see some of the lower colors in a new light, such as the way Erica D presents them, that we can see that maybe icy white isn't the only great option out there.

Holy run on sentence Batman!

You'll figure it out!

I'm thinking about the same thing actually because I'm really starting to want to work toward / plan for a Cartier watch, but I honestly can only dream of a stainless, not a two tone or YG cost wise. So, I need to try one on to see if I can be happy with a SS watch on my skin, and with my other pieces, otherwise... I might have to drop it.

Hehe, I love run-ons! I totally agree with the marketing strategy and I think it's working quite well! I also believe that some people may think that anything other than what everyone else has is a trend (if that makes sense - like gemstone rings). . .but maybe what the majority has IS the trend!

Your work in progress will be a symphony in the end!

Dude, that's deep!

The trends are definitely all over the place! That's what made me really think about it and look into it a little more to make this post. I think it also comes down to trend versus culture and generation and where they value. In terms of diamonds I think people amongst my friends definitely show the value towards size more than anything else. Whereas the generation in my family before me could care less about size but want something high clarity and color. In terms of setting I see the people older than me wanting a simple solitaire more than an elaborate setting like my friends. Or maybe that's just my experience?

And yes there is definitely some subjective bias for what you have sometimes. Though I will openly say that I think halos may be trending out but depends on the type. Gemstone rings I don't think will trend as much as lower color stones though? Maybe just me.

I honestly think that the next "out dated" trend will be Haloes because they were kind of out for a while. Everything is cyclical. White metals went out for yellow gold and they came back big again and now yellow and rose gold are all the rage.

I agree. While I think halos are beautiful, they are very, VERY on-trend right now. Multiple halo styles are seen in every jeweler, and they will be remembered as the "It" ring of this time.

But yellow and rose gold, while popular for other jewelry, are still rarely seen on engagement bands. Every year the jewelers insist that yellow gold is coming back, but it hasn't in any real way for engagement rings.

And anyone remember the very wide yellow gold bands that were so popular in the 1980's? One rarely sees anything like those anymore!

I almost want to predict that in the next 5-10 years that's where we will be headed back to. Right now all the bands and settings (including my own) seem to be extremely thin.... I think the next go around it might go back to the thicker style like the Tiffany Lucinda (i think that's what it's called) for durability and just something different.... but i could be totally wrong!

I think most of the people aren't educated enough to know much about the 4C of the diamonds, and as long as the diamond looks pretty, they seem to be fine with them. None of my friends know their diamond's clarity, color, or cut. They know the carat, but that's about it. Only few people care so much about the quality of the diamonds in US, which I think is better LOL. It's about you being happy with it, more you educate yourself, the chances are you want something better...which happened to me. My 1st E-ring was .75 carat H VS2 Round, then I wanted something different and bigger I go 2.07 Radiant H VS1, then I found Price Scope. It is all down hill.....

I'm from Japan, and people there get high color/high clarity/high cut, size is the last thing they think about(average is .3-.5carat). You'll be surprised that so many people have D IF diamonds.
Interesting thing is they don't wear their E-rings once they tie the not. They put it away and only wear in the special occasion like wedding or party, which is a big waste in my opinion. But you rarely see any women with wedding band and E-ring together in Japan. I'm sure if I go back everyone will think my rings are fake.

I agree with that last part. You have to be true to yourself! My ring was recently deemed "overworked and beyond repair" by my jeweler. He offered a total replacement. I kinda had free range within limits to go any which route I wanted. Now I should add that before all this I would have given anything to change my set, I felt my channel sets where so boring and dated. But as I spent HOURS looking and looking, I really never made it very far away from what I already have. In the end the jeweler is ordering three channel set bands...lol. They only differ from my originals in that they are half round on the bottom and slightly thinner channels than my originals.

And I REEEEALY hate to admit this, but I was married before to a guy I just met in Las Vegas (yes...seriously) and that ring was a YG channel set wedding set. And um, yeah, I was engaged once after that to another guy...also had channel set diamonds...lol. Apparently it's just who I am, or what I'm meant to have. :shrugs:

THIS!!!!^^^^

Couldn't agree more. I got married in 2002 and mine is still pretty in style. But ones from a few years before are just, well, not me..lol. While I still LOVE my dress I can't really wear it currently. Back then I had "aftermarket" boobie IN the dress. Now I have a set in my chest, so when I put on my dress now, I'm like a GGG (is that a size? lol).

I love your stories and how wild you are! Every bit of it! My kids fun crazy stories will have to be from DF. I was a tame obedient-ish girl and don't have much fun ones to share like DF. Damn!... But I do have 3 months... Lol jk

I'll admit I've never been a fan of channel sets but I think it definitely has to suite each persons style and taste. People can pull off anything as long as they own it. If Gaga can work it in a dress made of meat, I don't think we have anything to worry about as far as our rings go! I can't wait to see your new set. Same center stone? Double prongs? Same metal? Same diamonds? Just thinner?

Also, do you mind lending me one of those Gs for my wedding? Haha they'd be perfect accessory to my dress. Thank you!

I don't think halo will be outdated anytime soon, but it could happen in 20 years. I think at that point, you both have gorgeous stones, and could reset it, if you even wanted to!

I know I've said this before, but I got my YG ER when YG was super out of style, so it's just nice to see it in style now. Ultimately though, I know it's the best thing for ME, so I think being true to your own style is the most important thing.

I agree! I've always worn mainly yellow gold, even when it wasn't considered "in" to wear YG. I think all that matters with any piece of jewelry is the wearer being comfortable wearing it.

outdated or not, all the more reason for gals to get the ring they want to wear for the rest of the life and not the current trend! That being said I will still love my J12 and halo rings even if it's not a "trend" anymore. SO it's staying for me.

Really? I politely disagree with this comment. I've seen and continue to see YG on many ERings. I don't think YG ever went "out of style" where ERings are concerned. If anything, it's WG or Platinum that are the exceptions. YG has been seen as a standard for ERings.

I think this is a very bold statement to make and I feel it's offensive to make such generalizations about people. Are you saying then that those women who don't excel in all the 4 C's are less-intelligent?? Or is it just the friend you hang out with? Or is it the men/SO/partners that lack education? I don't understand your comment whatsoever.

This comment I agree with. Wear it for yourself and bc you love it. Not because you rely on what others think.
