I wonder that too. I think the trend right now is micropave/delicate settings/halos. Since I have all of the above (and a double halo!), I hope it's not outdated anytime soon! But my mom, like whoops' mom, is really into giant baguette burst style on rings, and even though she likes my ring, she still thinks that style is the best! So maybe in 30 years my daughter will tease me for my ridic ring setting, but as long as I still think my ring is the most beautiful, I wouldn't mind if it looks old fashioned to others!

I think in general, we tire of certain styles as the years go by. It's natural and normal. My Mother just had her 80's sapphire/baguette re-set and it's modern and gorgeous!!! Might have to post some pics.

I do know however, that if you begin with a gorgeous diamond or centre stone, regardless of whether or not it's halo'd, and choose the setting of your dreams, your desire to change it wouldn't be immediate.

I don't think I would have chosen the setting I have now 15 years ago when I became engaged- had I'd known then what I know now....well, I might have ended up with something similar, but DH insists I'd have found a way to upgrade it one way or another!!!

Princess Diana's sapphire ring was all the rage 30 years ago, and now Kate wears it. However! I do think if Kate had HER way, she'd be wearing a different e-ring entirely.

My mom had hers on a platinum solitaire originally and she reset it and now has 24 baguettes, 12 to each side! On a size 5 with about a 2 carat center.... My clear instructions to DF when we went shopping.... "see my moms, opposite!" haha it definitely is indicative of the 1980s when she did her reset. My grandmother had a 24k ring, my grandfather told me that in china it was 24k or bust because it's not "real" gold if it's alloyed. I'm sure you've heard all the expectations of engagement ring and diamonds in our culture. Poor boys!

Its okay, I have a halo too! But halos, yours included, seem to be not all the same. I can see the crazy thick halo styles to be a little more trendy but for a delicate well done halo it can be classic in a feminine way. The tiffany legacy is an infamous halo style that will never trend. When any style is done right it looks fantastic and won't ever disappear. There are even some beautiful marquise rings I've seen that stilltake my breath away.

I don't think halo will be outdated anytime soon, but it could happen in 20 years. I think at that point, you both have gorgeous stones, and could reset it, if you even wanted to!

I know I've said this before, but I got my YG ER when YG was super out of style, so it's just nice to see it in style now. Ultimately though, I know it's the best thing for ME, so I think being true to your own style is the most important thing.

Love love love your YG ring with YG love bracelet!!! It made me sooo jealous! I was looking at watches and the bracelet last week and I hated the look of it next to my WG engagement ring. I love the RG and YG love bracelets but it clashed! But the metal tones in your set is fantastic. Wish I could borrow your left arm for a day haha (that sounds so odd)

I've been watching Dexter (just started!) so I'm imaging the Ice Truck Killer and body parts. . .hahaha

I think that a LOT of the newer E-rings are halos. Either Halos or Pave settings for sure. Or like in my case, a Halo with pave setting on a double shank :) (yes I went all out! lol!)

Anyway, I love Halos but I'm sure they will be outdated at some point. But I'm also more than sure we will still love them like our mothers love their own rings.

I wonder how the colored gemstone and colored diamonds will last too.... My grandmother had a rich deep purple tanzanite (I think?) and I noticed most of my grandparents didn't have diamonds. I wonder if we are trending back to non diamonds?

Definitely agree about the center stone! The setting gets worn and needs to be repaired/dip/polish but the diamond is forever. Though DF feels more sentiment to the band versus the stone. I'm vice versus.

I also wonder if the diamond eternity wedding bands will fade? Kate got a plain YG band and I wonder if that's the next upcoming W-band style preference.

I totally agree. It's a natural process to want things you don't have and when certain trends get super hot, you want to jump in and be apart of the action! And that's the best part about e-rings! The most important element is the center diamond. The setting can be changed, restyled, recycled and still have the same sentiment, love, and meaning but just look different! I want to see your mum's ring - it sounds beautiful!!!

Hahha, yeah . . . Asian moms and baguettes. Not just one or two. . .but lots and lots of them! Your mom's sounds CRAZY. 24 total baguettes? I don't know how many my mom has, but it's probably half that amount! I originally wanted the legacy setting (there is something so romantic about the scroll workd and bead-set borders of Edwardian period rings!) But I agree. . .halos comes in different shapes, styles, sizes, etc. so it's not like one mass trend of the same exact thing. I love how your halo is so delicate and understated yet adds so much at the same time to your beautiful center diamond. I don't care if they go out of style tomorrow or in 30 years. . .I am pretty sure I will still love halos!

Totally agree w/ this.

I've seen halos that are gaudy or "kitsch" in style. I really dislike the ones that look very flowery- when the halo has large diamonds surrounding the centre.

Honestly, those Michael B designs although pretty, are so completely encrusted w/ pave everywhere, that in my opinion, it won't take 30 years for those to look tacky/dated. I see that trend falling out of style in a year or two. Why? Because it's completely over-done. Besides, drlling into the basket, donut, shank, halo etc....weakens the metal- regardless of whether it's platinum or gold. No wonder those melees fall out frequently.

Anyways.......I guess the bottom line is to go w/ what you love.

Thankfully, I haven't wanted to change my halo setting since receiving it!! My son slapped his cheeks last night when I told him that fact (a la "Home Alone" movie style!) b'c he was just so amazed at that fact LOL!!! Gotta love the sarcasm!

I'll post pics of my Mom's ring tonight. Suffice it to say, it's a double halo LOL!! With at least 30 or more baguettes!!! It's reminiscent of Diana's ring, only the sapphire is smaller & the attention is on the baquettes and diamonds!

Are there pics of this treasure anywhere??!!!!!

I think traditionally, non-diamonds are used for e-rings in other cultures and countries. I think only in the US is the diamond the predominant stone for e-rings. I think as long as you bought the gemstone/colored diamond because you LOVE it vs. the trend/style of it, it won't be a huge deal.

Hahaha really?? I have never seen that on any of my friend's moms...and my mom doesn't even own an e-ring, only a wedding band that matches my dad's. It's hammered silver with a leaf-y like design (not that flowery as it is the same on my dad hehe). Another thing is that she wears her WB on her right hand and my dad wears his on his left. Has anyone else noticed that cultural difference?

Omg! When I first saw the Tiffany yellow diamonds it was over! I even remember saying "I dont care what size, shape, whatever! I just want it yellow" when I first saw them! Then Heidi Klum got hers and I died all over again! But then the price just was too much for what I wanted and DF liked the traditional white but we were so tempted! Yellow is one of his favorite colors. I would have gotten a yellow diamond on YG solitaire... Yum!

You lucky girl with your yellow diamond! It's my favorite over pink and blue colored diamonds. And tiffanys yellow is extraordinary! I'll be dreaming of a yellow diamond pear tonight...
