Thanks! I'm sure sure why, but I tend to lean towards 4 prong. I'm heading down to a local jewelry store to look at the 6 prong though.

Don't want to rule out anything without seeing it ;)
It looks like that setting has an option of either 4 or 6 prongs.

I am with Ame, I prefer the 6 prong setting. The 4 prong somehow makes the stone look squarish.

What has your future fiance picked out?

She hasn't really mentioned a preference. She is not really one for jewelry as such, but I think that this could change that ;)

I guess I keep going back to 4 prong because I love the Harry Winston design that I linked to earlier.

I'd never pay that for about .5 crt.

Here's one w/ better specs, it's bigger and it's a LOT less $

Here's one for HALF that $5800 price!

Unfortunately, in the UK everything is overpriced in comparison to the cost of living. Also, this is from a High Street Jewellers, so will always be more expensive as the clientèle often are ignorant to arranging the ring themselves. As I was a few weeks back ;)

GOG have got this in 18K for $600:

Thoughts on the setting and the 4 vs 6 prong debate?

I prefer less metal, so I prefer 4-prongs, BUT I like very dainty prongs, not thick ones because it will cause a round stone to look more square.

I would always go to a 6 prong for a round, always. If for no other reason than security. If you snap a prong on a 4 prong, you are more likely to lose the stone than if you snap one on the 6 prong.

Did you look at the stones Swanky posted?

Buying the loose diamonds seems a similar price, but those shops are few and far between, and tend to exist only in cities.

Buying from a High Street jeweller where the pieces are pre-set and mass produced, the prices are far higher.

Case in point, this diamond is not as nice as the one from GOG, but over twice the price.

Just looked at them now. They are nice. I am almost 100% set on the .9 carat H&A ESI2 from GOG. Having seen it in the video, the decision seems much easier!

But from GOG aren't you buying online?
Same w/ the site I linked. :confused1:

Sorry, I see what you are saying!

I had only looked at Bluenile before GOG was recommended. As I am planning to spend a few days in and propose in NY, I thought I could head to GOG and pick up the ring while she is distracted. Then I can propose that night or the night after.

Do you think that puts too much faith in GOG without seeing the stone in person?

Not at all. I bought mine based on photos and videos on their site. I like your plan about getting the ring while in NYC but the trek to GOG is not fast or subtle. lol, the train ride is like an hour each way and LIRR only departs from one station in Manhattan. They might be willing to ship it to your hotel though or have it couriered for you into Manhattan so ask about that option. Because then if you aren't thrilled you can BOTH go out there together while still in the states.

What E SI2 are you talking about...I thought we were looking at an H SI1?
