Engagement Ring Drama, help me decide!!!

Id return this and start from scratch. You don't really love either, you like elements from each but not in love with either. And not buy from a Mall jeweler.

Start checking out rings on Pricescope.com and find a local shop or an online vendor to get a great center stone from, and temporary solitaire. Then start looking for the perfect setting, or design it. :)

For 9k you can actually get a big diamond you want and nice decent setting. The 4 c's are important and the cut actually makes even a smaller carat weight stone shine like anything.

I actually bought a diamondring online from what was based on pricescope.com. It was 0.72 carat stone in a plain platinum setting but that thing shines like anything and I get so many compliments for it. It was also very well priced.

Pricescope also has a calculator where you enter the dimensions of the diamond and it will tell you how good/bad the cut of the diamond is.

Thanks!

Thats a good idea like you said to have this ring as comparison while looking at other rings! This way you can decide what you do and don't like.
I would keep looking until you find the ring you love!

Any time we would go places that had jewelry stores I would always go in just to see what they had and to try on rings!

We finally found a local jeweler in our area who is beyond wonderful and we told him our price budget and exactly what we were looking for and anytime a ring would come in he thought we would like he would call us and we would go in to look at it. After trying on so many rings I was about to give up and we were thinking of having one made so we could get exactly what we wanted and our jeweler called and said he found the perfect ring!
It defiantly takes time but don't give up and keep looking! You will find something you love, and if the option of making one worked out thats an amazing route to go too. I have many friends who have had their rings made!

Good Luck and keep us posted!

Thanks!! :smile1: That is great that you found such an awesome jeweler that would call you when styles you might like would show up, I hope I will have such good luck!

I am going with a friend to a bridal expo today (my first one, I heard they are fun!) then I have a few local stores I am going to check out! I will keep this thread updated with my findings!!

im very much in the 'buy an amazing stone from a dealer and then get it set the way you want'. Mine was done this way and it basically cost us $8k to get a ring that you would have paid min $16k in a store. And then its YOUR ring and perfect!

OMG that is HALF OFF retail:nuts: That's AWESOME! Just looking online at how much settings and loose stones cost it really is looking like I can get a larger and better quality stone for around the same price. I'm pretty sure that I've just never seriously considered doing it this way because it seemed like too much work LOL. I guess the extra effort really pays off though!

SpoilMeRotten, your ring is a halo. Doesn't it help the center stone look bigger?

Yes, it def. looks bigger because of the halo (at least from far away) I printed out that 'actual diamond size' chart from amazon that Swanky posted in the ref. section and the 3/4 diamond WITH the halo of small diamonds is the same size as a 3ct cushion! So it def. makes the stone look larger, one of the big benefits of this style (that and I think all the diamonds give extra sparkles)!

I think you should get the first one and keep it. I love low set stones for ease of wear/use.... and it was your first. Just my thought! Good luck though!

Thanks!! This is definitely something I am still considering. It would be the easiest thing to do, obviously - since I just exchanged the other one and I already have it! It does have sentimental value too since it's the exact ring my fiance proposed with and I was obsessed with it for months before getting it! It will just depend on if I can get something that I love as much with a bigger stone for a comparable price or not, so I am deciding to research it and see how it goes! I like that I have the ring now to compare at other places too, some stores I've been too the pave just didn't look good or sparkle enough! If I don't find something I like more though, I am totally keeping this one:smile1:

I don't mean to butt in here, but have you ever heard of the Advance Building? It's on the NW corner of 9 Mile and Greenfield Road. The 3rd floor is nothing but jewler after jewler (there must be at least 30 stores there)! It's heaven! All the jewelers there will custom make anything you want. After you and the jewler come up with an idea, they will make the mold, you can go back and view the mold/make changes, etc. and then they will make your ring. The prices are very good also, much better than "mall" jewelery stores. My brother designed my sister-in-law's wedding and engagement ring there and it's absolutely beautiful. Good luck!

I agree with lv lover steph. I'd keep the first one b/c it's the one you originally wanted and the one he proposed with. Then maybe for your 5th wedding anniversary you can upgrade to the huge rock you want. But maybe trading the first one for something else is bad karma?

I know it sounds weird, but I believe in stuff like that!

i believe in that stuff, too, crystalina. maybe SMR can get a bigger diamond for her 5th anniversary, and reset the original 3/4ct diamond into a pendant or find it a mate to make a pair of earrings.

Hi, Chiming in here with everyone else! Congratulations!!!

You owe it to yourself and your fiance to do more research for this ring. 9k is a LOT of money. There are plenty of jewelers out there who want your business and are not chain stores and will get you a higher quality ring, bigger stones, and a similar setting for that price.

For fun, I just priced out a beautiful diamond at bluenile.com

^^^ita.
If you are not absolutely loving it right now and swooning every time you look at your hand then you never will. If you are like me, you will spend forever wishing you had got something else or explored other options.
