Engagement Ring Drama, help me decide!!!

I don't mean to butt in here, but have you ever heard of the Advance Building? It's on the NW corner of 9 Mile and Greenfield Road. The 3rd floor is nothing but jewler after jewler (there must be at least 30 stores there)! It's heaven! All the jewelers there will custom make anything you want. After you and the jewler come up with an idea, they will make the mold, you can go back and view the mold/make changes, etc. and then they will make your ring. The prices are very good also, much better than "mall" jewelery stores. My brother designed my sister-in-law's wedding and engagement ring there and it's absolutely beautiful. Good luck!

Nope, but I just googled it!!! I will have to check this out, it's not too far from me! Thanks for the tip!

I agree with lv lover steph. I'd keep the first one b/c it's the one you originally wanted and the one he proposed with. Then maybe for your 5th wedding anniversary you can upgrade to the huge rock you want. But maybe trading the first one for something else is bad karma?

I know it sounds weird, but I believe in stuff like that!

i believe in that stuff, too, crystalina. maybe SMR can get a bigger diamond for her 5th anniversary, and reset the original 3/4ct diamond into a pendant or find it a mate to make a pair of earrings.

Hmm I never thought about this:confused1: The whole thing makes me feel kinda bad, my fiance just wants me to be happy but I am driving him nuts! I do love this ring, i just wish it were a little bit bigger... I feel like I sound so materialistic saying that, I hate it! I can't help myself though:sad:

if you must question it then return it full and wait

^^^ita.
If you are not absolutely loving it right now and swooning every time you look at your hand then you never will. If you are like me, you will spend forever wishing you had got something else or explored other options.

That freaks me out, thinking I will forever regret keeping it! I would hate that:sad: My fiance is convinced it is just a matter of getting used to whatever is on my finger (like getting used to a new car) LOL and that no matter what it is I won't ever think its absolutely perfect... I dont know about that though!

I'm sure you will find your perfect ring sooner or later :) just sit there tight and go ring shopping whenever u can, even to those places u thought you were never going to.

I got mine at the jewellery district in LA, I wonder if there is such thing on ur area?

UPDATE--

I hit up some local jewelers over the weekend and the one closest to me happens to have almost the EXACT setting of ring#1 that I love, and the setting is only $1,200:wtf: They didn't have it in store, but had a round version of it that was designed for a 1.5 ct. It has the small floating diamond under the main diamond but also has two more (on each side horizontally- like the Tiffany legacy with graduated side stones) and the little 'bridge' where the small diamond is located is all pave, unlike the ring I have now. Other that that, it is almost identical. Problem is, I went wearing the ring I have now, and the pave on it sparkles SO MUCH BETTER! Like, the stones in mine now are way bigger, and the setting they had had like tinier little chips. Also, it didn't really look very much bigger (maybe because they had a round one there?) So I'm not sure it's worth the extra hassle and money to get a slightly bigger version... or maybe I need to keep looking. Although, I did find something else that appeals to me....

I was on the knot website and saw this Kirk Kara ring:love:.....

I did their retailer locator and there's only one retailer in Michigan and they're not really very close. I tried to call them and couldn't get through, so I emailed the store to get pricing and find out if they have it in store! I LOVE the setting but I'm worried about the height! I really want to see this one though!!!

Hi, Chiming in here with everyone else! Congratulations!!!

You owe it to yourself and your fiance to do more research for this ring. 9k is a LOT of money. There are plenty of jewelers out there who want your business and are not chain stores and will get you a higher quality ring, bigger stones, and a similar setting for that price.

Now that I've had some time to review the thread, 9k is a large budget and the OP mentioned that it was twice the size of the first ring, and probably more than twice the price.

Is your fiance able to afford doubling his spend on the ring?

Since you really are having such a difficult time making a decision I would recommend visiting the Advance Building as Crazy for Bags recommended. There you will be able to try on every type of setting you can possibly imagine plus get and idea of what size and specs you'd like your diamond to be.

My DH and I looked at a few settings/diamonds a few weeks back in the LA jewelry district (maybe an upgrade for our fifth anniversary later this month?) and for $4k you can get a VS1 in one carat or bigger and quite an impressive setting. I'm unsure now what your spending limit is, but I still think it's worth it purchase something this way so that your ring retains it's value. KWIM?

Yeah, it's fine:smile1: Of course he has no problem with me liking something less expensive tough! The first ring is almost 6k, that's the one I have now and the one he proposed with that I originally picked. I knew he would spend more at the time (up to 10k), but I really loved this style even though the center carat wasnt quite as large as I envisioned, and I was never on a mission to get him to spend as much as he is willing to, I just want a ring I love! I went to helzberg after seeing an ad for the 1ct version of this ring which was pricier, but it didnt have pave sides and couldnt be worn with a band without a gap, so the smaller ct size was designed better. Also, I'm 5'9" and have long-ish fingers and while I didn't think it looked too small in the store when I picked it out, I started to feel like it looked a little too dainty after wearing it a few days!

Thanks, I will check it out this weekend! I had never even heard of it before! That sounds like a great deal and retaining value is a good thing too! I read in one of my bride magazine that you should get your ring independently appraised after purchasing and return it if it's worth substantially less that what you paid:wtf: I would be too scared to find out!
