i know! I think this is why most people here recommend you to try to find a setting

MOST likely you will find it at some place that DOESN'T have a website

Not sure where u are at (i do read detroit) but I'm positive there should be some jewellery district (look close to the wholesale district, at least the one in LA is RIGHT NEXT to the wholesale clothing district) where you go in and there are TONS of small stalls full of jewellery..

the same thing happens in NY.. seen one on 5th avenue, about 10 blocks away from all the fancy stores?

Hope u find a place like that and find the setting you love!

getting a stone should be a lot easier.. u can easily do that thru pricescope or bluenile!

good luck!

Yeah, it's fine:smile1: Of course he has no problem with me liking something less expensive tough! The first ring is almost 6k, that's the one I have now and the one he proposed with that I originally picked. I knew he would spend more at the time (up to 10k),

OK, cool, I just wanted to make sure. Sometimes we girls can get a little crazy when it comes to our bling. ;)

As for the Kirk Kara ring, a skilled jeweler would be able to recreate the look for much less. It's only $8k because it's designer. I asked my husband, who knows his jewelry and he told me the following:

The cost to have that made from scratch in a diamond district should be $2k max. That would be in platinum with top quality diamonds (VVS/VS, D-E-F). They would create a wax mold of it that you can approve before they make the ring ($150).

OK...you are in Detroit so I can let you in on my secret jewelry store find. Go to a place in downtown Rochester called Antiques by Pamela. She has both old and new settings and stones...plus she can do custom work. I saved myself a fortune on my engagement rings and wedding bands. She was half the cost of pretty much every store we checked out with twice the quality. I'll try to find a close up to post of my engagement ring.......people die over it everywhere I go.

Sorry if this has already been posted (I haven't read the entire thread) but have you been on pricescope? I have seen many Legacy inspired reproductions (check out engagementringsdirect.com, whiteflash, goodoldgold, etc.) Is it possible to return for refund altogether and start from scratch? You can buy a killer loose stone from one of these great vendors, and have a custom setting made.

I have been where you are. Keep the bigger ring. You wont b e happy with a smaller ring knowing you could have had a bigger one. Both are pretty but remember the stone is what's important, in a few years you can have it reset. But take my advice, don't keep thinking about it, your fiance will get too fed up and stop caring. Keep this one and enjoy it for now. I've been married 32 years and have had at least 10 rings, so you are stuck with anything forever.

I hope she kept the first ring. To insist on someting bigger and therefore (in her opinion) ''better'' is just tacky in my opinion.

I just read this whole thread and I too am curious as to what she did. I don't think it's tacky to get exactly what you want, especially if this is the man you are goin gto marry AND it's still within the realm of his budget.
