I do too! I was glad to see it come back. I guess this is how I live. I spent $2200 this year in jewelry and about $100 in second hand clothes. But it was enough for an entirely new summer wardrobe!
I did decided at the end of last year I wouldn't be buying costume jewelry anymore, and would stick to fine jewelry to pass on to my children.

I buy a lot of my designer clothes on sale because the spring and winter collections are always on clearance when you can just start wearing them as the seasons change in Canada. or I shop at marshalls (amazing store!!!) h&m, or gap for basics.
speaking of marshalls I went there last week and I got tom ford cat eye sunglasses down from 360 to 79.00, italian made sandals from neopolitanio 85% off, and 3 dresses under $16, and a lace tank top for $30....ammmazing
as for jewellery I've spent approximately $5000+ this year on pieces. this was the first year I really started buying quality pieces and things that will help me build a jewellery wardrobe :D

YAY!!!:hugs:Sometimes I feel bad admiting it one here with all these lovely high fashion ladies. But I'm happy with my almost just as fashionable goodwill finds :-) In my town we have goodwillstores in affluent areas, so I'm getting last years clothes (still perfectly in style) for $3 shirts, $2 shorts and $4 dresses. I spent under $100 this year and filled my closet with Buckle brands like BKE, ann taylor, banana republic, forever 21, guess, Michael Kores, Arden B, Gap, H & M, bebe, Express, and a few even higher names. Can't beat that! I shop some of the other trendy second hand shops, but never find anything better than my goodwill finds, and usually those stores are more in the $10-30 range per item.

Great thread! I've been trying to adopt the same philosophy. I have waaaay too many clothes and shoes, but probably only wear 10% of it but yet keep buying more and they just sit in my closet. I have no idea how to start building my "classic and fabulous" jewelry wardrobe though and the basic high quality clothing pieces to match?? What do you ladies have as your core building blocks?

For me I would guess simple diamond studs (already have), have a cartier love on my wishlist, and hopefully a diamond tennis bracelet sometime in future. Please chime in! :)

Perhaps a diamond solitaire necklace. Either a DBTY type or the one surferjen just got (it's a yellow pear in a bezel yellow gold setting, from tiffany's)

I know I follow this philosophy-I usually buy simply nice quality clothes(usually Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, maybe Bebe here and there) in nice colors that flatter me and then spend a LOT more on scarves, handbags and jewelry.

I used to spend nearly all my money on clothes, bags, and shoes... within the last year, I changed the way I spend my money.. Now I mostly save up and then buy a nice piece of jewelry... And for some reason I've been happier this way :D and now I mostly buy high street fashion which I just love :p;)... Now I'm saving up to buy a Rolex 36mm datejust Yellow Gold Jubilee bracelet..

Oh fun thread! Although I love clothes and shoes I won't spend ridiculous amounts of money on them like I would on fine jewelry. I also don't buy costume jewelry much because they easily go out of style. Love love love fine jewelry. I view jewelry as an investment and I plan to pass them on to my future children like my mom has been passing on to me jewelry from her collection. Beside, clothes can get worn out however "classic" they are. Classic jewelry pieces will be timeless and may even appreciate in value.

I've stopped buying clothes and shoes! Now just focusing on saving up for dream ring, but still wants more Hermes bags!!! I agree that its not worth it spending a lot of $$ on clothes and I used to spend ALOT on clothes. As I've gotten older, my focus has now been more on buying spending $$ on quality and fewer things. Jewelry, watches and H are all I ever want now. Def not spending on clothes anymore since I got bitten by the Hermes bug!

I am really not into jewelry. Isn't it funny how some of us will spend $$$$ on one thing and then cheap out on another? The only jewelry I really wear is my Rolex, my wedding rings and my diamond stud earrings. Everything else I forget about mostly...haven't worn my pearls in years, lol.

This is really good advice especially for someone like me whose weight flunctuates and I end up hating how most things fit on me. I rarley get tired of my jewels. Lately I have decreased the amount of stuff I tend to buy and have been investing in more quality peices. I'm going to try and take this advice to heart and start saving up for my Cartier Love bangle.

My weight fluctuates, too!
Hopefully towards the down-scale soon, so I can go shopping in my closet.
More than half of what I own had been hanging there due to the 3 kgs I've gained since November.
