Does the color of your purse really matter? *question

I do have certain bags that I only wear in fall and winter. I have some I wear mostly in the summer. This is because I think they are more Fall/Winter type bags or others are more spring/summer bags. But you should never wear anything because of what other people think!! You dress for yourself!

I may be the only person on TPF with no black bag, and yes color matters to me. I don't use my pink bag in winter or my burgundy bag in summer, but I don't have much limit beyond that colorwise. I recently purchased a lovely lilac / purple bag that is an all year color to me. I do try to wear co-ordinating colors but do not try to match too closely.

For certain colors and patterns it matters to me, although I only have a couple bags in that sense that can only be worn during spring/summer (bright florals, etc.). The rest of my bags are neutral leathers so I carry them year round.

I used to care about wearing certain colors during summer/spring/fall/winter but now... I don't really mind it.

I'll wear certain bags year round. I don't care anymore about if it's "in season" because it just doesn't make sense to me... if I wanna wear a powder blue bag during fall/winter, I should be able to.

Another thing, a powder blue bag during fall/winter would really add a pop of color in a sea of burgundy/black/grey/dark colored bags

What about you ladies?

I love denim lately and that always crosses out my light-coloured bags because I always get denim colour transfer. So when I wear denim it always generally means dark colours and by that I mean my black bags. Thus my light-coloured bags are worn for office. I don't do white bags at all, not a single whilte bag in my collection because the last time I had one it shows dirt and wear so fast. But I'll do white pouches and not branded at all.

I don't own a black bag either! Black is boring to me. Brown is my black :-). The majority of my bags are browns and blues.

No black bags?! :amazed:

Can't go wrong with black and/or tan. ;) I don't wear certain materials or models depending on the season. Delicate leathers or open top bags will sleep during winter time as I don't want rain and snow to ruin it. :)

I have wondered about this question a lot of times. But personally, I carry the purse that I 'feel like' carrying on a particular day. I have a very limited purse collection so even if I cant really impose such rules, as they would be hard to follow. Plus, constant rotation means i don't really get bored of my bags :)

Your philosophy on coloured bags is enviable! Very good points about burgundy in winter, pink in summer etc.

I love lighter colors but wear denim about 90% of the time and am terrified of color transfer. I did just buy a preloved beige bag because I need something in a lighter color for spring & summer. It was inexpensive enough that I won't freak out if it gets dirty and has to be retired quickly.

Too kind Lady Sarah! I am afraid age has mellowed my concern about whether my colorful choices are always appropriate!! However, as I temper everything with navy and grey, and only wear cool colors, most everything co-ordinates.

I pretty much carry & wear neutrals so some color in my collection is good. My problem is I stay with the same bag for a long period of time. I own a lot of bags. Rotating their use would alleviate guilt for the initial purchase.
I think it's ok to wear any color any time. It's the shade of the color that makes it season appropriate.

I used to be a black bag person, with one red bag as my only pop of color. After a while I considered red a neutral bag color too. Then I got exposed to tpf, so my bag colors branched - to other neutrals like grey and beige, plus some other colorful ones.

Now, I have 6 everyday black bags, out of 20+. Given the choice, I would like to let go of 2-3 of these black bags. I desire more colorful bags now, or other non-black neutrals. But the 2nd hand bag market for these brands is not really active in my country. So I think I am sort of stuck with them for now. Btw, in my country we only have wet and dry season, so bag colors really are not seasonal.
