I'm not sure the logo "made in italy" can confirm authenticity unless its purchased from boutiques and major dept stores.

I'm also not surprised if authentic Gucci bags are actually made in China but labelled as "made in Italy". Business always try to cut cost as much as possible. So, having fatory in China may help to cut cost significantly. But, I'm not affected so much by this (if indeed its true), cos' I'll keep buying Gucci if they keep producing quality handbags regardless of where it is made.

coach indeed is now made in china but according to them they impose the same strict quality control.. still i think their prices have steadily increased despite the fact that they moved factories...

I completely agree with your comment... Coach is so ridiculously expensive nowadays...

you used to be able to get a wristlet for 40 bucks and now it's for like at least 50.

Side comment about COACH...

I think it is quite ridiculous that COACH charges an exorbitant amount of money when their product is Made in China or in another country who has a relatively poor economy. I remember seeing that "Multipocket" bag that they had last year, copying another designer... who had it a year before... hem hem... and charged $500 for a bag that was not even leather! Frustrates me.... ok thats my 2 cents.... now back with Gucci.

I agree that Coach charges hell of an amount when they're products are made in China. Nevertheless, mind you chanelchick that China DOES NOT HAVE A POOR ECONOMY. According to The Economist, China is in FACT THE LEADING ECONOMY right now (followed by India). Each year since the mid 90s, the economy quadruples and is doing WAY better compared to when Japan was rising in the 80s. If you look around, I'd say the majority of the USA (as well as the entire world) has stocks or investments in China...not so poor anymore eh? :shrugs:

PS: Yes, I'm Chinese-French-Canadian.

ughhh i know I have a coach bag i bought from macys that says that also. just looking at it gets me mad

Well I'm part Chinese. So I agree that China is a rising economy, nobody doubts that. I was referring to other countries that have a relatively poor economy. Check the Coach handbags and see what other countries they are made from. And most of them are realtively poor, comapred to the US, western Eurpoe and even China.

Lets face it, Producing a product in China is considerably cheaper than producing products in Italy, France, Spain, and the US. Charging consumers $500 for a bag that was made in china and was not made in leather is quite high.

For the supply and demand, I have seen tremendous amounts of Coach bags not being sold and where do they end up? In the outlets for about 30-50% cheaper, than they intended it to be. So charging consumers who buy at a retail location with a fairly high amount is highway roberry.

From what I have heard the made-in-china bags are -
1) Coach bags, but I have never try peeping inside the leather ones
2) Celine fabric bags
3) Some Furla...at least I have got one. Recently, I checked with the SA, she told me 90% are made in Italy...Hmm how unlucky can I get???
