Does anyone feel like VCA is everywhere now?

I’ve been here in Paris for a little more than two days, been to shopping areas where luxury stores are, and I’ve only seen one person wearing VCA and it was a tourist.
Yes VCA has more popularity abroad than in France for some reason… it would be a super interesting marketing case study to find out why! I would also say that luxury consumption habits are different in the US and in Europe. It is less common to buy expensive jewellery often in Europe, even if you have the means.

I've said this before in the unpopular opinions thread in the H subforum but my post got deleted for being off topic: Western Europeans flex differently. They avoid being flashy. That's why Birkins, Kellys, Chanel bags, VCA, Cartier, etc, are not so popular here, although of course there are some people who do it, and there are pockets of places where a lot of people do it (Munich, Milan, etc).

They flex in not too obvious ways. They flex by the property they own--the location, size, and interior decor; also the ability to have a second property, usually a summer house. To them, you have "made it" if you have joined the property ladder.

Other ways they flex include the vacations they take, for how long, and what places they go to (and how tanned they are when they return). The education that they have achieved. The work-life balance they have, especially here in Scandinavia where working overtime is looked down upon rather than praised (means you cannot manage your time, or your priorities are skewed, because work-life balance is king here).

Also, VCA is too expensive for the average European. And if they could afford it, they'd buy something else or maybe VCA that's not recognizable. The 5-motif bracelet is around 5k euros, for example. Just to give a perspective, if you're earning 5k euros a month in Western Europe after tax, you are considered upper middle class.

I would say yes, and I believe it's largely due to social media. I know several people IRL who have been influenced due to social media, but they never would have known about/recognized VCA otherwise.

I personally fell in love with VCA when I was about 20 years young (many, many years ago  ). I didn't know much about it at the time and wore mostly Tiffany, David Yurman, and Chanel jewelry (not Chanel's fine jewelry line) back then. What I did know is that the Alhambra shape and pieces were so classy and elegant to me :girlsigh: I told myself when I was of an appropriate age to wear these pieces, I too would purchase "the clover shaped jewelry".

VCA is/was very big on social media with those luxury influencers. However, IRL, I have to say no. I work in Silicon Valley and VCA is not the big flex - at least in my circles and going to-and-fro at high end luxury malls. I've seen more Cartier Love, DY Cable and Tiffany's. Not sure if it's real or not. Most friends in good paying jobs, and own their homes, are not into VCA. One friend keeps calling it old lady jewelry.

Agree. While I’ve seen a lot of Alhambra IRL in the wild in NYC, it’s pretty confined to certain zip codes. And, especially when I see the VCA/chanel/hermes triumvirate on younger women, I do tend to assume (sometimes I’m right, sometimes wrong) that there is quite a bit of instagram influencer aspiration going on. But, VCA has actually been around for decades, and some do consider it old Lady jewelry.

I do think, that for the most part, those with money, including NYers lol do spend on other things like art, furnishings, vacations, second homes and, yep, quality of life. If they spend on VCA, Hermes, and other luxury brands, thats secondary. Bc time and the freedom to spend it as you wish is the ultimate luxury.

Perfect for me then. I’m bringing the Old-Lady-energy!

I’ve never noticed this before (eg Tokyo Olympics) - there r plenty of Olympians that sport VCAs! Had it always been the case and I just didn’t notice it as my eyes were not “opened” to the world of luxury designer jewelry then?
VCA VA has been popular for tennis stars, too. In general, luxury designers are making more inroads with athletes than ever before.
