Hello Docride!
I'm still a little new to Hermes, so I've been reading a lot on waterproofing the leather on my Herbag Ado. The only thing I want to make sure of is the type of leather it is. I've read many, many blogs about leather type, and I think the leather on my black herbag is Calf Boxed? If not, do you know what is it? And can I waterproof it the way you would a boxed calf leather?

Thank-you again for all your help!
Its Vache Bride I think ... or something similar... and yes you can make it water resistant with a number of products which would be suitable for Box Calf. Good luck, doc

Thank you so much for your reply!! I'm still waiting on the authentication, but I seem to have just been skipped. I'll probably go to a private authenticator because I don't want to lose the bag. Thank you so much again for your input I really appreciate it!!!
What you showed me thus far looks good , lets see the rest...

Hello,
This is an unfinished or semi finished leather strap, so its going to gain patina/color/marks similar to the leather used on Louis Vuitton handles once stained there isn't the option of doing color work to cover the stain.... so while im not sure if this is a stain or a missing top skin or cut im looking at in the photo...? If its a cut or missing top skin you'll will not be able to fix it to look like the surrounding leather, if its a stain or something sitting on top of the leather you might try cleaning with a Lexol PH wipe or other Leather care cleansing wipe for unfinished leather... or just a water damp wash cloth and go over the whole strap a few times and try to make it look a bit more uniform...
As for the fabric question I don't know fabrics so Id say take it to a good dry cleaner and see if they can help you . All the best, doc
thanks doc!

Use bababebi.com. I authenticate my own bags (with the exception of certain more easily counterfeited pieces) and I STILL use her, because it sets my mind at 1000% ease (and is also helpful if I ever sell a bag). If this is the bag I think it is, it is a good deal. Rouge H sellier in the perfect shade that's not battered isn't that easy to find.

image.png image.png image.png Hi Docride, I've been reading valiantly about care for my BBK and have just tracked down some BlackRock! At the moment I'm considering a Chamonix Kelly but it has some scuffing and marks. Any idea how to remove these marks? Not much on Chamonix here it seems. Eraser perhaps? Pics attached. Thanks very much!!

Hello, For the record again, I no longer recommend Blackrock too many having issues with application and tons of folks using it on non recommended leathers which will have a messy result.

On to your question,
Regarding your bag, its not just surface marks which will just clean off... when dark marks sit on top of light colored leathers they often stain the leather so even if you manage to clean of the surface you often have a stain. Additionally you have areas with missing top skin on your corners those would need corrected with color restoration either at Hermes spa or another trusted professional or via a luxury leather color touch up kit at home.
I hope this helps? All the best, doc
PS: box calf and charmonix are basically the same the later can be considered the matte version.

Thank you so much! I waited too long as the bag sold today. I'm heartbroken. I'll have to wait until another is posted for sale. I will definitely use an authentication service right alway and post any leather questions here. You and others who have comments are so sweet and helpful. Thank you so much again :)

image.png image.png Hi, I am hoping you might be able to help me. I have a Hermes pouchette which unfortunately has been exposed to mould and now has mould stains. I had barely used it so I guess that's how it got mould on it. Is there anything you can do for it? If so, what are your charges? Thanks in advance for your response!

Thank you Doc! Yes I did read that blackrock must be used sparingly. If not to be used at all what should I use on vintage black box calf please? I tried a bit of tarragon condition on the bottom and it seemed ok - can I use that? As for the chamonix - do you think a good spa could clean off the stains or touch up without having to dye the whole bag? Are these too hard to clean without dyeing the whole bag? Thank you very much

Hello,
Use you good sense.. don't use a Blackrock or other type oliy or way conditioners on worn areas (those with missing top skin) or they will absorb the product and go darker than the surrounding areas. When I mentioned color restoration I only meant a small amount of touch up color on the areas of wear/ color loss... I did not mean to dye the whole bag.. no no...
A spa at Hermes might help the corners to look better yes, a small amount of color restorer could be applied to the coners wnere needed,
I hope this helps clarify?
Did you mean Tarrago conditioner (that's a preparer for dye work )? Or Tarrago shoe cream? (that's polish)
if you are trying some conditioner then try a small hidden area first to make sure you like the results before continuing on to other areas...
Blackrock is fine on darker box calf used sparingly, but on light colored I would avoid it.... That's my advise.
All the best,doc

Hi Doc,

I recently purchased this vintage Kelly from a reseller shop at Japan. This is a 1981 Kelly. I think it is box leather, am I right?

Is the leather consider as dry? When I touch it, it feels ok except those hairline on the leather. Should I do b+o?

And for the hardware. I found overall looks ok but the zip looks very dull, how can I polish or treat it?

Many thanks View attachment 3475498View attachment 3475499View attachment 3475500View attachment 3475501

Hi doc,

Would you please give me some advise on this one ? Many thanks. :)

Hi doc,

Would you please give me some advise on this one ? Many thanks.
Hello, What advise are you asking for :) ? I have looked at the photos, there is some dryness and some cracking to the surface finish, there are small tears on the handle base pads, and some scuffing to the corners.. I can not see the state of the handle is it cracking ?
The bag is otherwise lovely..
All the best,doc

Doc,

Thanks for your respond. For the dryness. Is the b+o suitable for the treatment ?

Thanks again
