Hi doc,

Could you please recommend a great waterproofer for Chamonix?

When I first got the bag, I tested some droplets of water on the base of the bag and it didn’t seem to penetrate. However after using it a handful of times, I’ve managed to get 3 little water marks on it. It seems to have pocked/indented the leather. Will that mend on it’s own over time? Or is this now a forever mark on the bag? It’s my only Birkin and would love to make it a work horse bag, even though I’ve read here quite a bit that Chamonix is a type of leather that most would use sparingly due to the nature of the leather. It also doesn’t help that it’s a light colour.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi there ,
I’m afraid those marks will most likely stay it’s possible they might fade a bit though.
But yes, there are some highly recommended products for leather weather protection in my thread entitled
Hermes Leather Care in the Hermes reference section. [emoji4]
All the best doc

Thanks doc!

Have you had any experience using Fiebings Snow Proof paste? It says it’s great on smooth leather and not greasy.

Ah thanks for that. I’m in Australia and your recommended products aren’t easily accessible to me to try and do it this weekend. I have a Tandy Leather close to me and was going through their waterproofing products and this looked the best to me. I’ll have to source those other products and wait to use the bag til I can properly protect it.

Go to your cobbler and see what they have on offer always test a small hidden area before treating larger areas.
The idea is to use a lighter weight product the snowseal is very heavy and waxy it can get stuck in the seams and requires heat application the chances of color change and or streaking is high.
A conditioner followed by a a couple of rounds of neutral polish would help weather protect why not do that?

I’ve bought some Saphir products and just spot tested them. For the life of me couldn’t locate any of the Saphir waterproofer but the Sport Loisir Outdoor promises to be the best one.
To the back top corner of the bag I applied the cream to my finger and massaged. I then applied 4 drops of water. I’ll let the photos speak for itself.

But I also bought the Saphir Renovateur and was hoping to finish off with that and buff it.

Hi I’m glad it’s working out for you
You might want to post this in a different in a thread.
Please note I am NOT endorsing that particular product for the leather you are using it on. ( I do need to state that or folks will think I recommended it)
Good luck

Thanks doc, I totally understand. I wouldn’t go around recommending this product even though I’m using it and it’s working for me. This bag is vintage and I don’t know if or what the previous owner have treated it with.
So far, there doesn’t seem to be a negative reaction to the leather.

Hi Doc,

I have a B30 in togo. Given the humidity weather (90%) where i reside, i find the togo leather is getting so 'dry' that I am getting worried. Please tell me what can I do to 'improve' the condition of my B30.
Greatly appreciate your advise :D

Hi docride,
I recently purchased an Evelyne sellier in hunter leather. I love the leather and structure of this bag but have no idea of the best way to care for it. Up until recently this leather was mostly used for trim on bags but now Hermes is starting to make whole bags in it. Any advise on products to use on this leather to protect it would be so appreciated. My apologies if this advise has been posted anywhere on the previous threads. I also wondered if the natural hunter leather would patina and darken like barenia.Tia
