Hi there
I rest of the leather needs to be evaluated, most likely it can be fixed bring your bag to Hermes and see what they say . I wouldn’t go out of your way to say you put anything on the bag . Just be straight and ask them to fix it. ok?
If they can’t or won’t fix it there are hand bag repair specially shops which can usually help so don’t despair.
All the best doc

The closest Hermes store is a plane ride from me :) I may be better off looking for a bag repair shop. I have an amazing cobbler although I'm guessing he doesn't possess the finesse necessary to make a repair like this. I don't need it perfect. I know the bag no longer has monetary or resale value. For me it's value is in my link to the person who gave it to me and how I remember them every time I look at it.

Hi doc, I recently acquired this preloved barenia waist bag. It looks dry and with all these “scratch”. Is there anything I could do to smooth out the leather? Thank you.

Hi there,
Conditioning can help blend those scratches back into the patina. So although the scratches will technically still be present, they won’t be as noticeable.

What a good thought. You know you could Che k with your cobbler sometimes they’re quite talented... get a feel if yours is?

Hello!
I'm embarrassed to say I might have gone overboard with the Reptan Saphir (may have used too much, or may have left it on for more than 5 minutes). Sadly, it's left several smudge-like marks on my Croc that won't budge. Your advice, please?

Hi, If the bag is cool bring it to warm room then buff again. If this doesn’t improve you can use some additional product on the area apply with finger tips then remove excess and buff again because “like dissolves like”
Good luck [emoji256]

Hi, Doc!

Thank you so much for your reply--I really appreciate it! Neither of the recommendations worked, unfortunately (I have attached a photo here). Is there anything else I can try, or is it time to either try to locate an Hermes Craftsman in Asia or to learn to live with it?

Hi Docride! Please let me know what you think of the condition of this hac? Does it look too dry to you? Seller said it's "Veau Chamonix leather" (exact words from seller). Does it look like charmonix leather to you? What color does it look like to you? Seller said it's "brown" On the last picture, does that look like missing stitches to you? I just placed a circle on the section that look like missing stitches to me. I did asked seller, but no response yet. Thanks so much for your expertise!

Hi,
Looks like yes some dropped stitches that’s common enough and nothing to be overly concerned about ...
Looks rather like possible it’s barenia ... I’d need to see the rims too
Does it look too dry? Well if it’s barenia then no it could be conditioned I don’t see cracks do you?
It’s not Charmonix to my mind ....
send me a few more photos :)
Good luck

When you said rims? Do you mean the corners and bottom? Attached are more pics. (Pics from the listing look different from the additional pics (above) that seller sent. Thanks!
