Why not post photos of the problem areas of concern on your wallet? Very often what folks think is dirt is not and is rather wear, color fading or stains... then they get overly focused on cleaning with a heavy hand and make things worse... just saying ... do take care its been known to happen.
If the Hermes craftsman thinks you would see little difference with an Hermes spa it then what I mentioned could be the case

Hi Doc...hope all is well in this new year! Question, I recently purchased a vintage Kelly Veau grain Courchevel...I’ve been looking at the leather care thread and couldn’t find a direct answer to my question...my bag is looking a little ashy and a bit discolored...lighter on front and back and darker on the sides, also a little ashy like she needs lotion...lol...I used Kiwi leather lotion and armor all leather care wipes but not really noticing a difference...any suggestions...here’s a pic, you can see the darkness on the side panels and lighter in front...any help would be appreciated

Hello,
From your photo I can NOT tell exactly, but it might be color fade from light exposure or some such thing or some prior color work was performed in the past (check the stitches and color line of demarcation closely) rather than dryness which would explain why conditioning didn't improve it radically. This does not appear to be a do it yourself project. I would say either, live with it as is or get it to a professional for color restoration knowing that Hermes wont be accepting it for services should you choose the later full on color restoration.

I checked the stitching and fade lines and didn't see anything unusual as to point to color work so I'm thinking you are right about color fade from sun/light exposure. Taking it to Hermes for spa is not an option right now as there is not one in my home state and of course they don't accept mail-in's.:crybaby:
Was using Kiwi leather lotion and Armor-All leather wipes okay though? Just want to ensure I don't cause further/future issues. Thanks so much for your time and assistance.

Hi Doc,
How are you?
I’m not sure if this is the right place to post this, but you sure are the person to answer this.
I live in a humid climate and have a bathroom right next to my closet.
Should I get a dehumidifier for the bathroom?
How can I make sure my bags do not get damaged by humidity?
What’s the ideal relative humidity for leather or should I at least try to keep the closet at a certain temperature?
Do those humidity sachets help keep humidity at bay inside drawers? Should I put them inside handbags? If so, what size should the sachets be?
Thank you very much and happy new year!

Ack!! I have a preloved Hermes Kelly that I've had for a few years after inheriting from a family member. It has some issues but nothing major. Today the section that holds the ring attaching the handle to the bag split. The leather is completely torn. Will Hermes fix it? I've done my own at-home spa and I've heard Hermes won't repair a bag that has been cleaned or conditioned by someone other than Hermes. I don't know how to get this fixed if Hermes won't take care of it. The bag is basically useless without this repair. I'm beside myself!

Picture attached. Any advice welcome.

Is this the Kelly you posted about on post #391 on this thread? Unfortunately, it looks like it already had some cracking to the leather at that point. Since work was done outside of Hermès, they will refuse to do further work, but if it is any consolation to you, they often refuse to work on very dry or cracked vintage leathers even if never worked on outside of Hermès because they feel they can not do a lasting repair to their standards if the leather has become too fragile. I would imagine if work can be done by another leather professional, they would have to assess the bag in person to see what could be accomplished. I’m sure you can guess who I would recommend if anything can be done! Good luck.

Yes, this is the same one. Poor old girl. I could certainly see the cracks in the top (which are greatly improved since my at-home spa treatment) but the handle area looked sound. It was quite a shock when it pulled away completely.

Doc, can this be fixed? I use this bag every single day and have since I was given it 5 years ago. It's like an extension of my body at this point!

Hi
A cleaning and conditioning shouldn’t cause worry as it should not have altered anything to any degree. Hermes does not do full panel color restoration to my knowledge but see what they say . Good luck [emoji256]

Hello,
I’d bring it in and see what they say I wouldn’t despair yet . Even if they did refuse it , there are specialized shops that can most likely help it be serviceable again.

Hi there,
I think this is a very good question.
Firstly I think large anti Humectant packs in and around your bags is a good idea and do make sure you rotate them out with fresh or redried out packs. Yes a dehumidifier like an air conditioner could help also. Unfortunately the other thing that is difficult is the possibility of mold and mildew so keep and eye and a nose on your bags, air them out often if possible.

Hi there
I rest of the leather needs to be evaluated, most likely it can be fixed bring your bag to Hermes and see what they say . I wouldn’t go out of your way to say you put anything on the bag . Just be straight and ask them to fix it. ok?
If they can’t or won’t fix it there are hand bag repair specially shops which can usually help so don’t despair.
