Hi Docride, what leather of the trim do you think it is? Is the body toile? Can I get rid of the spots/stains on the toile? Thanks!

I recently bought a pre-loved constance 23. It's in beautiful condition, except that I noticed that the leather lining is peeling a bit on the left side (picture attached below), near where the flap naturally bends and gets the most stretching when opened. I'm a little concerned that this will only get worse with time, with opening of the flap. I would not intentionally try to stretch it, but because it's a single gusset, it's almost necessary to open it more fully so that I can see or place my items.

Do you have recommendations on if this can be remedied, if I should be worried about it getting a lot worse, and if I should return it (which is an option)? Thanks in advance!

CAFE537B-8603-4E3D-8AF8-36429100C0B6.png Hi Doc,
I’ve been following this thread to see if there’s an issue similar to mine. I’ve considering a Birkin in Clemence leather. There’s a cut on the edge of the bag I’m concerned with. As well as a note from the seller stating that the bag had been restrained. Have uploaded some pics. Would love to know your thoughts on this. And thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions.

Hi Docride! Any advice on my possibly ruined HG black kelly epsom bag? I got caught in the rain in Paris, ironically leaving the FSH store! I put my bag in another larger bag but didn’t have an umbrella and it got soaked. Now a few hours later after drying it off it still has these bubbles. In Paris crying :(

Hello Doc! I've been reading through this thread and I want to first off, thank you for all your help and expert advise  I've begun the search for a box calf Kelly and have found one but it states that it has some mold on the inside. There are also some deep scratches on the front and back of the bag. Would a good spa treatment help resolve some of these issues? Here are some photos for you to look at. THANK YOU!

Here's the link in case you'd like to look at the photos up close. Not sure if these photos will enlarge?! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Authentic-...-Box-Calf-Vintage-France-JT07061/382861237570

Awe I’m sorry
Water blisters usually stay once they’ve happened I wish I knew the way to fix it .

Hi there
Looks like wear and a cut I doubt this will effect the functionality of the bag by much . On another note what “ does restrained “ mean? Thanks !

Hey Doc,

Having a quick question re: Aussie. I bought it for my VN but wondering if it could be applied to box calf so that it could resist water to some extend.

Thanks as always Doc!

C

It’s pretty thick it’s not my first choice I’d use a lighter conditioner and follow with a good neutral polish . That would help it shed water.

Hiya Doc!
I have a quick question about the Crack Stabilizer in the Restoring Spa Kit for Vintage Leather Handbags.
I've cleaned the bag, and during cleaning a few little areas are showing a bit of cracking/chipping, a little on the top of the bag and on the sangles. It's very dry. Should I put the Crack Stabilizer on - because it couldn't hurt - or should I moisturize it and then repeat the process?
TIA!

You can contact me through the listing for help :) I can’t answer that here
Thanks
Doc

Hi doc!!! Just wanted to stop by and say :ty: and give you a few big :hugs: from across the pond!!!! Today the jar that carries my homemade rib sauce spilled ALL over the passenger side, and onto my barenia kelly!!! I almost crushed the car when I found out! When I got home, I quickly searched “wine” and “barenia” and came across your original advice of “washing” the leather, as I remember a fellow tpf’er had a similar experience recently. And I did exactly that: washed the barenia. And guess what, most of it came out!!! And that’s what left (pls see pix number 2). Shall I continue “washing” the outline? I am quite happy with what I have, don’t get me wrong!!! Just wondering if I should continue. :) I think eventually I might have to replace the entire back panel anyway.... but just in case you think I should. :) :ty: !!!

The second pix of the sauce (yes, it’s that dark), and first pix is the barenia right now! Isn’t it amazing!!!!!

Looks like you caught it in time great job
I’d wash it a few more times try not to scrub though
All the best doc

Hello! I was advised to put this query here (so apologies for double-posting!) after putting it in the main thread.
>>>

... Housing Works (a really wonderful NYC charity that aids the homeless/AIDS community) is selling what they say is a vintage Kelly bag. It's in bad shape, but I wonder if the Hermes spa would be able to make it useable? Am I dreaming? It's asking price is only $100 (though I'm sure it'll go up), and I'm wondering what a fair upper-bid price would be. Any & all suggestions would be amazing! I've never even considered buying a Hermes bag before, but since Housing Works is a great cause I'm tempted to spend more than I otherwise might ... but hope it's not a lost cause?

Hi great cause , not a great Kelly though it’s in very delicate and in my opinion it will not restore to functionality with a spa
The leather looks deeply cracked and dry rotted.
I’d bid on it strictly to help the cause but not with the idea of this bag becoming something other than a conversation piece or window display or photo prop.

Hi @docride!
Here’s my results after using your Restoring kit on this 34 year old beauty - I used 2 kits and polished once.

Looking at the picture - you might not see much of a difference - but it’s much better. Not so dry and after a little black dye on a few places that showed some wear - she looks almost brand new!
(And smells better!)
Thank you!

Looks fantastic! Great job!

Just bought this gorgeous Hermes 35 Kelly not sure if keeping. Thoughts from all on the damage by silver ring holding handles. Should I be concerned? Don’t believe leather cracked all the way through almost looks chipped. I could touch up and condition. All thoughts and comments welcomed!

Very pretty Kelly
Yup you’ve got small tears on those handle base pads conditioning is a good start and a daub of color to the little lighter area. Eventually the tiny tears will get worse but I can’t say from looking at the photos when that might be... depends a lot on how heavy the bag is loaded and if carried with a shoulder strap and the bag twists a lot with heavy load inside it can hasten the stress tears worsening.
Bag otherwise looks nice.

Hi Doc

What do you recommend to moisturize an in excellent condition 1955 Kelly box leather. This bag only had 1 owner used a handful of times and stored with filling and in dustbag. Leather has no scratches. Should I leave leather alone? Can not locate meltonian neutral anywhere after reading through your threads. What is a good replacement.
View attachment 4351662

Definitely condition this bag or send it to spa
Applying neutral polish such as meltonian neutral won’t give it conditioning to any great degree. I have s thread which has products recommended for different Hermes leather upkeep situations.
